Fishbein: Dress for the Frigid Conditions

ShiningEnding1

A letter from Dr. Fishbein: January 30, 2019
Note correction from earlier version: It’s actually 49 days til Spring!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today I am writing to ask that your children dress extra warmly the next few days to withstand the expected frigid conditions that are being forecasted for our area.

Since so many of our children will be walking to and from school or waiting at bus stops, it is critically important that they be outfitted appropriately, with as little skin exposure as possible.

Please note also that while we presume our buses will be running on time, the frigid weather may cause unexpected travel delays.

I leave you with the pleasant thought that Spring is only 49 days away! In the meantime, please stay safe and warm.

Sincerely yours,

Daniel Fishbein, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools

Ridgewood NJ,Ridgewood School Board attorney Jeff Merlino spoke to the lack of clarity about the process for Board member elections in the first year following the move of the annual election from November to April. Since Mr. Merlino was unable to get formal clarification on this issue from the state and county, a filing was made to the court and a date of February 15 has been set to appear before the judge. Mr. Merlino’s slide presentation may be viewed :

Reader says , ” RHS is full of hubris and we are sowing the results”

Because when principal declares pompously in front of a full house back to school night that he has visited many schools around he world by RHS is the best he has seen ……………..fill in the blanks. RHS is full of hubris and we are sowing the results. Our kids are not getting the education they deserve. There are teachers that do not teach but just throw stuff at students and we have to scramble to find tutors and pay and arm and a leg to get the kids what we already pay for through taxes. We need a complete overhaul of the BOE and especially RHS higher ups. This is the only way to get back to the great times. We need passionate and competent people who have a clear vision and strategy with the best interests for kids and their families in mind.

LEGAL ACTION TAKEN ON BEHALF OF RIDGEWOOD BOE

cottageplaceBOE_theridgewoodblog

from RidgewoodRightToVote

Dear fellow resident,

Recently, you may have received an email from the Ridgewood Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Fishbein, in regard to a court action taken by him on behalf of the Ridgewood Board of Education. Unfortunately, that letter did not give an accurate and complete description of what he is doing or the repercussions to the community should he succeed in court.

Dr..Fishbein has entered the BOE into a costly legal battle with the County and State in order to challenge a state law, thus further extending the terms of current BOE trustees. The four current BOE trustees that support this have already had their terms extended by 6 1/2 months as a result of the BOE decision in 2013 to move our school elections from April to November. This lawsuit, paid for with your tax dollars meant for education, not only seeks to extend their terms for a second time, it would, if they win, create the opportunity for them to continually extend their terms of office simply by opting to change the date of school elections each year, or in select years to preserve particular trustees’ positions..

Reader says , “multiple board members need to go”

cottage_place BOE_theridgewioodblog

“Agreed, vote no. Fishbein, Gorman and multiple board members need to go. They can’t get jobs in other districts. And along with Brogan and Loncto, they’ve overseen the demise of our once great schools. Their current “product” includes a mere four national merit scholars and only 2.4% of graduates in the Ivy League. It’s not a “Tradition of Excellence.” More like a “Legacy of Incompetence.” But until the mommies stop buying the lie their realtor friends keep telling them, nothing will change. Unless we are willing to admit we don’t have great schools anymore, the $110 million hype fest will continue.”

Reader says , schools should focus on a “quality educational foundation”

Library-Books

“Reader asks , “how could we only have 4, National Merritt Scholars””
.
Because we are more focused on transgender rights, solidarity with kneeling football players, supporting illegal aliens, and other virtue signaling social engineering objectives than with providing a quality educational foundation.
.
Any other questions?

Reader says , “students were forced to participate “

big-brother-poster1

“The RHS administration made plans for those who chose not to participate and for those who had a different gun perspective and they met during the walkout. I thought it was handled very well and having attended college in the 60’s , I have never forgotten our attempts at protest and or solidarity.”
.
This is not true in practice.
.
Ask students who went to see the protest then chose to not participate — forced to participate.
.
Also “plans for those who chose not to participate” – i.e. corraling students into a room inside the building smacks of “seperate but equal” segregation.

Reader says , “Gorman should move to Chicago and be an Obama-style community organizer”

RHS

“Students should NEVER get the warm and fuzzy from adults when thinking about setting their own class schedule once the add/drop deadline has passed, regardless of what the political issue du jour happens to be. What if the students simply wanted to hold an ice cream social? Would the administration and the school board not have considered that unworthy and told them “cut class and suffer the consequences?”. No, it’s only when certain kool-aid drinking students scratch the sixties retreads’ special spot do their political hind legs go twitching and they become all luvvy duvvy and compliant like Gorman did. Absolutely pathetic and partisan.
Gorman only set about to scandalize and corrupt a much smaller group of naive second amendment supporters to similarly cut class and hold their own protest (inside the building and out of range of the videocameras of Gorman’s friends in the press, of course) to give himself the thinnest of a solomon-like veneer in the eyes of those of us who tend not to think too deeply about the menace of government-sponsored political action. Gorman should move to Chicago and be an Obama-style community organizer if that’s what floats his boat and leave the job of a high school principal to someone who actually wants to maintain or improve RHS’s academic performance and reputation.”

Reader Revisits the “Marty Brooks Fiasco”

“Marty Brooks and his wife were hardcore constructivists. Thankfully Brooks quit before starting as the Ridgewood district superintendent or he and his wife would have turned Ridgewood into a reform math/constructivist education mecca. Regina Botsford, the assistant superintendent in charge of corrupting the district’s curriculum, mercifully quit soon afterwards, seeking greener pastures to satisfy her constructivist bent. The current superintendent, while also a generally ideologically driven progressive liberal (like they all seem to be), never developed a national reputation or following.
So he could never overwhelm the district with pure nonsense the way the Brooks family would have in short order.”

Reader calls BOE Members , ” Power Hungry “

cottage_place_2_theridgewoodblog

“If any of you who think the Superintendent’s is gospel, maybe you should read the entire law the Board is complaining about. It clearly states that is an election is moved back from November until April the members who would retire in April will have shortened terms. (When it was first moved to April, in case people don’t remember, the people who should have retired that November got the six more months to serve until April.) So now the same Board who gleefully accepted that six more months are crying that their terms need to be extended again. I hate to think that volunteers could become so power hungry that they can’t stand even the idea of taking away their spending privileges.”

RIDGEWOOD BOARD OF EDUCATION STATEMENT REGARDING THE COMPLAINT FILED JANUARY 18, 2019 IN THE SUPERIOR COURT OF NEW JERSEY, BERGEN COUNTY LAW DIVISION

BOE

Ridgewood Board Of Education

Ridgewood NJ, In July 2018, the Ridgewood Village Council adopted a resolution moving the annual school board elections from November to April. On April 16, 2019 Ridgewood voters will have the opportunity to vote on the annual school budget. The Board of Education is seeking clarification on the effect this change has on board member terms.

Board members are elected for three-year terms. Currently, all sitting board members were elected in November elections, those terms expire on the 31st of December of the third year of their term. With the change to April elections it unclear when current board member terms expire.

The Superintendent of Ridgewood Public Schools, on behalf of the Ridgewood Board of Education has filed a Verified Complaint against the County of Bergen and the New Jersey Commissioner of Education seeking clarification of the terms of all sitting board members. The Superintendent has filed the complaint because there are two differing points of view on board member terms. The opinion by the courts is that the term of a member of the Board of Education cannot be shortened. A response from a Bergen County official opined that those terms can be shortened.  Our goal in filing this complaint with the court is to have a response that will allow us to proceed according to law.

It is expected that a decision will be made well in advance of the February 25, 2019 filing deadline for the April 2019 elections.

Any questions regarding this action should be addressed to the Superintendent and Board of Education at 201-670-2700 x10530.

Reader asks,” how this can be?”

I don’t understand how this can be?
.
How can a system that teaches, celebrates and prioritizes gender politics, social justice, racial and cultural balkinization and socialism over educational fundamentals (aka “the 3 Rs”) and objective fact based learning (aka “drill and kill”) fail?
