‘Obama’s insurance policy’: DC chuckles after GOP congressman rules out impeaching Obama because – ‘Have you met Joe Biden?’

Trey Gowdy said his party can’t impeach the president over his threatened immigration overhaul – but only because Biden would become president
The folksy Biden wants the top job for himself but Republicans see him as a potentially embarrassing one-man gaffe factory
One senior House GOP aide said Biden is ‘two floppy shoes short of a complete clown outfit’ and Obama’s ‘insurance policy’
Gowdy hinted that impeachment is being dangled by the White House as bait in the hope that the GOP will destroy its own credibility by trying it
A Texas Republican congressman and a judge-turned-news-analyst floated the idea this week

A Republican congressman known as a pit bull in Washington said Thursday that he doesn’t support the idea of impeachment proceedings against President Obama because winning that fight would elevate the vice president to the Oval Office.

‘Have you met Joe Biden?’ South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy asked during a Fox News Channel interview.

Impeachment talk has swirled around Washington since the president announced that an executive order overhauling America’s immigration system is imminent.

But some in the GOP see Biden as Obama’s hedge against removal from office, since much of his public exposure has come in conjunction with a series of embarrassing gaffes.

More Federal Agencies Are Using Undercover Operations
By ERIC LICHTBLAU and WILLIAM M. ARKINNOV. 15, 2014

WASHINGTON — The federal government has significantly expanded undercover operations in recent years, with officers from at least 40 agencies posing as business people, welfare recipients, political protesters and even doctors or ministers to ferret out wrongdoing, records and interviews show.

At the Supreme Court, small teams of undercover officers dress as students at large demonstrations outside the courthouse and join the protests to look for suspicious activity, according to officials familiar with the practice.

At the Internal Revenue Service, dozens of undercover agents chase suspected tax evaders worldwide, by posing as tax preparers or accountants or drug dealers or yacht buyers, court records show.

At the Agriculture Department, more than 100 undercover agents pose as food stamp recipients at thousands of neighborhood stores to spot suspicious vendors and fraud, officials said.

Undercover work, inherently invasive and sometimes dangerous, was once largely the domain of the F.B.I. and a few other law enforcement agencies at the federal level. But outside public view, changes in policies and tactics over the last decade have resulted in undercover teams run by agencies in virtually every corner of the federal government, according to officials, former agents and documents.

This Democrat Is Giving Up on ObamaCare

The disastrous rollout of the Affordable Care Act was the catalyst for my party’s midterm thumping.

By
Burke Beu
Nov. 13, 2014 6:00 p.m. ET

I grew up in a Democratic family. I have been a registered Democrat since age 18, a Democratic candidate for statewide office in Colorado and a party precinct captain in that caucus state. I’ve volunteered for numerous Democratic candidates and contributed to party causes and campaigns. The 2014 election results were extremely disappointing for me, but hardly a surprise.

I voted for Barack Obama in 2008, then lost my job in the Great Recession. I was lucky; my brother lost his job and his house. I survived on part-time jobs while paying out-of-pocket for my health insurance.

I voted for President Obama again in 2012, then received a cancellation notice for my health insurance. This was due to ObamaCare, the so-called Affordable Care Act. However, I couldn’t afford anything else.

Midterm elections in the second term of a presidency are difficult on the president’s party, and the Obama administration’s crisis-of-the-month headlines weren’t helpful. Ultimately, though, ObamaCare was the catalyst for my party’s midterm thumping.

Very good runners have become outstanding runners as the Ridgewood High School boys cross-country team has gathered momentum and rolled through the season’s latest major meets.

“Our first three kids have been very consistent over the whole season,” coach Mike Glynn said a few days after the Maroons won the North 1, Group 4 sectional championship for a group-record 22nd time. “And they ran even faster Saturday. They put themselves in a different league. They’re becoming elite runners.”

The Maroons were so dominant that they captured three of the top four spots in the race.

Junior Kenny Marshall was the individual champion, junior Nick Barnabic took third and sophomore Billy Byrne was fourth. They stood out as usual, but so did a host of their teammates — all seniors — who provided the important depth to earn the title. Jack Byrne finished 15th, Kotaro Tamura was 17th, Henry Ricatto 24th and Sam Calello finished just outside the top 25. Tamura continues to battle determinedly despite the fact that his foot problems still have not subsided. The other three upperclassmen all ran their personal bests on the Garret Mountain course.

Catch-22: Ridgewood H.S. girls add to record number of sectional cross-country titles

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

With good reason, a race usually focuses on the lead runners, but Jacob Brown was looking for the middle of the pack to turn the tide last Saturday. The Ridgewood High School girls cross-country coach made his point clear.

“He hammered it home,” said senior Carleen Jeffers, who finished second to junior teammate Sam Halvorsen in the North 1, Group 4 meet at Garret Mountain, Ridgewood’s state-record 22nd such title. “He wanted our seventh girl, Corina Cobb, to beat [Randolph’s] No. 5 girl. That was our main focus.”

That was imperative if the Maroons were to outscore Randolph for the team title.

“I challenged Corina,” Brown confirmed. “She beat that girl and that’s impressive when your 7 beats their 5. And so did [freshman] Meghan Adams.”

Halvorsen came across in a brisk 18:52 and earned Athlete of the Week honors from The Record. Once again, good friend Jeffers finished right on her heels, just three seconds back.

“We’re competitive racing as individuals, but in a race, we’re running as a team,” Halvorsen said.

Jeffers concurred. “There is an aspect of competitiveness,” she said. “We both want to win, but when Sam does well, I’m happy for her and she’s happy for me when I do well.”

There is always something to overcome on a cross-country course, such as the hills, the rocks, the sand and the tree roots that can cause stumbles. Halvorsen began to worry about something else.

Ridgewood High School advanced to the NJSIAA team gymnastics finals for the first time since 2011 by scoring 108.325 at the North 1 sectional meet last Saturday at RHS.

The Maroons placed runner-up to Ramapo (110.425) for the fourth year in a row but had one of the five best scores in the state besides the five section champions. That earned them a spot in Thursday’s team finals at Montgomery.

Two Ridgewood girls also qualified for Saturday’s state individual tournament in Montgomery, which begins at 11 a.m.

Yurina Harada collected bronze medals in the North 1 all-around (37.275), uneven bars (9.25), balance beam (9.35) and floor (9.325) competitions and placed fourth on vault (9.35). The senior heads to Somerset County seeking to defend the 2013 state floor title that she shared with Julianna Drapkin, who transferred from Bishop Ahr to Holmdel this year.

Maroon sophomore Mika Tamura earned her first trip to the state finals by scoring a fifth-place 36 in the sectional all-around. She was fourth on floor with a season-high 9.3 and tied for seventh on beam with a 9.1.

IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING VILLAGE OF RIDGEWOOD LEAF REMOVAL – REVISED SCHEDULE

As you may have heard in our continuing efforts to improve services, a new leaf removal program will begin with the upcoming leaf season. The preponderant portion of Area B will be outsourced to a private contractor for the removal of leaves. This change is being implemented so that our resources can be better utilized by providing more manpower and extending collection times in all areas to achieve the services that Ridgewood residents deserve.

Residents in Area B will remain the same with the exception of the following streets which will now be considered “Area D” for leaf season only.

N. Monroe St. (house #108 to #412)

Valley View Ave.

Elm Court

Wastena Terr.

Beechwood Road

Waiku Road

Unadilla Rd.

Palmer Court

Kemah Rd.

Woodland Ave. (house #116 – #223)

Carlton Terr.

Sheridan Terr.

Windsor Terr.

NEW dates for collection are as follows:

Area A: Oct. 20 – 23, Nov. 6 – 13, Dec. 1-5

Area D: Oct. 30 – Nov. 5, Nov. 20 – 26, Dec. 15 – 19

Leaves must be placed directly in the street no more than 7 days prior to your scheduled pick up date. Please have your leaves in the street on the first day scheduled for collection. No brush will be collected during leaf season. You may continue to bring leaves as well as brush to the Recycling Center. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Leaves can also be placed in paper biodegradable bags. Bags are available at the Recycling Center on a first come, first serve basis. When using bags please place them on the curb area and they will be collected separately. As weather is a key component to this operation if changes become necessary it will be posted on the Village of Ridgewood website. In addition you are encouraged to sign up for e-mail notifications via the Village website. As a reminder, please use caution when our leaf removal crews are on your block. When possible please take an alternate route to ensure the safety of all. Should you have any questions, please call the Street Division (201) 670-5585.

Reader says Harding Pharmacy & Liquors was just another Victim of a legal System the rewards lack of Personal Responsibility

Reader says Harding Pharmacy & Liquors was just another Victim of a legal System the rewards lack of Personal Responsibility

This just shows how densely arranged our legal system really is. Hardings was involved in the lawsuit because they had the most to contribute. If Hardings freely provided the drug or sold the drugs to make a profit maliciously (knowing full well this was to be used illegally at a party) then I can see how they would be at fault.

The homeowner and the ex-employee should have been held completely liable considering the homeowner threw the party serving alcohol to minors and the Ex-Employee actually provided the stolen drugs to the teen (at that time).
The partygoers should have been left harmless because they are not medical professionals that know for a fact Simon was falling into a coma. If anything, this is traumatizing to them and again, this goes back to the homeowner for allowing such a party.

Finally, where is the accountability on the actual abuser of the substance? Oh…he suffers nerve damage and other maladies due to overdose. Yeah….heroin addicts are convicted for doing these drugs and suffer withdrawal…do you see them suing their drug dealers? Also…if a gun was stolen from a gun store and used to kill someone, does this make the gunstore liable for the death? Come on people…if you don’t see how simple and stupid this is, you need to wake up! The legal system is ridiculous and we are allowing it! “We the People…” Not “Our government…”

Ridgewood Planner’s report on multifamily housing misses the point

Ridgewood Planner’s report on multifamily housing misses the point

To the editor:

After recently moving to a home that is only a block outside of our Central Business District, I had an even more vested interest in attending the last Planning Board meeting. I was curious to hear our village planner, Blais Brancheau, as he told our Planning Board about this new high-density zoning change. I was incredibly disappointed with Blais’ presentation. He talked in circles and back peddled, saying not much about very little.

We want our village planner to have a plan, not just deal with developers as they come along! We need to know the long-term repercussions of this zoning change. We deserve this, as citizens and taxpayers of this town. He has yet to set forth facts on how these developments will impact our municipal services, traffic, our schools and the future of Ridgewood.

Instead, we heard about State of NJ planning guidelines and recommendations from NJ Transit. Why didn’t Blais discuss local and regional issues ahead of generalized state planning recommendations? Our schools are at or are near maximum capacity, yet Blais told the Planning Board this should not be a primary concern. Really? That is why we live here … the schools are the best.

According to Blais’ report, Page 14, using the Rutgers Study, the actual number of schoolchildren attending Ridgewood schools from apartments in/around the CBD was almost four times higher than the projected amount. And Blais neglected to highlight data that would make this projection even higher.

Our lack of parking is a huge issue right now, yet all of these high-density zoning changes will come with less than the state required parking. Our town’s Open Space committee gave a full presentation on our severe deficit of open space in this town, yet rezoning for up to 500-700 new apartments will surely exacerbate this problem.

Our Planning Board needs to think long and hard about the decisions before them. Yes, there is a need for beautiful, higher-end apartments to keep empty nesters in Ridgewood, their town they love and invested in for years. But people cannot be expected to sit through endless testimony, read through ridiculous blogs, or pay for attorneys in order to fight for their town. But that is the way it is today.

Why not put forth a non-binding referendum to see what the taxpayers of Ridgewood see for the future of Ridgewood? Upper Saddle River just did it. How about a village-wide mailing of the facts to every resident to educate us on exactly what the Master Plan amendment includes? Upper Saddle River just did that, too. (Oh, and Upper Saddle River just voted 11-1 against high-density zoning.)

It is up to the Planning Board to do what is right for Ridgewood, not for the developers, today and in the future. As leaders of our community, we truly hope they will.

Ridgewood Council must follow meetings protocol

Ridgewood Council must follow meetings protocol

To the Editor:

In response to concerns voiced by several residents regarding Village Council members’ adherence to provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act, the council unanimously adopted Resolution 13-87, “Village Council Meetings and Communications Protocol,” in April of 2013. This document, which was developed by the council with the very best of intentions, is a list of “dos and don’ts” for the five elected council members to follow when discussing, investigating, or preparing for deliberation of municipal business.

Item No. 4 in this list reads as follows: “Telephonic or electronic communication between or among Council members or between a Council member and a member of the public during public meetings is prohibited.” In the 2013 public work sessions at which this document was edited, the clause prohibiting contact with members of the public was specifically inserted.

At both the Oct. 22 and Nov. 5, 2014, Village Council meetings, it was revealed that some members have their telephones and/or tablets on during meetings, and receive and reply to messages from family members. Resolution 13-87.4 does not allow for any exceptions to the prohibition, and family members are certainly members of the public. Both Mayor Aronsohn and Deputy Mayor Pucciarelli have clearly indicated that they have no problem breaking this rule in order to communicate with their families. As one resident stated on Nov. 5, this does not meet the high standards they set for themselves.

Our Village Council members put in long hours conducting business for Ridgewood, so one can imagine their temptation to be in touch with family during an evening meeting. Unfortunately, when their own rule is being broken, with private communications occurring during public meetings, members of the community are left with no way of knowing whether electronic exchanges might be taking place regarding substantive matters on the council agenda. If such interactions were to take place, this would seem to contradict the principles of the Open Public Meetings Act.

It is my hope that, moving forward, the Village Council will start following this document to the letter of their own law. Having telephones and tablets turned off and out of reach during these public meetings would completely eliminate any hint of impropriety.

Obamnomics  ,Giving Up in America : 40% Women, 28% Men, 39% Youth Don’t Want A Job

(Washington Examiner) – Nearly four in 10 Americans, or 92 million, are not in the labor force and now there’s a reason why: They have simply given up and don’t want to work.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the largest group of people not in the labor force are those who don’t want a job, a remarkable statement on the nation’s work ethic. The federal job counter said that 85.9 million adults last month didn’t want a job, or 93 percent of all adults not in the labor force.

A Pew Research Center analysis out Friday dug a bit deeper to find out who those people are. Many are younger Americans who seem far less interested it landing a job than previous generations, possibly discouraged by the lack of good-paying jobs.

SPECIAL: Join the Tea Party REVOLUTION! The Obama Regime must be dismantled!

Pew said that 39 percent of 16- to 24-year-olds don’t want to work, up from 29 percent in 2000.

Women especially don’t want a job, but men have similar feelings.

“Women are more likely than men to say they don’t want a job, although the gap has been narrowing — especially since the Great Recession. Last month, 28.5 percent of men said they didn’t want a job, up from 23.9 percent in October 2000 and 25.2 percent in October 2008. For women, the share saying they didn’t want a job hovered around 38 percent throughout the 2000s but began creeping up in 2010, reaching 40.2 percent last month,” said the Pew analysis.

Working for ICE ‘is hell right now,’ as Obama plans amnesty for illegals

Morale among officers at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, already low, has reached a new bottom as illegal immigrants expecting amnesty from President Obama taunt and ridicule the overworked officers, according to a new report.

“Yes,” said one, “working for this agency is hell right now.”

That was the latest message to immigration policy critic Jessica M. Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies. She has charted the woes of the officers who carry out the president’s orders.

In a new paper, she wrote:

“The president’s gradual, calculated dismantling of our immigration system has caused morale to plummet in the agencies of the Department of Homeland Security. Career immigration officials have courageously objected in public, and sometimes resorted to lawsuits to draw attention to the administration’s subversion of the law. In denial about their principled objections to his scheme, now the president is hoping to stifle their voices by offering them a pay increase as part of this outrageous plan. His assumption that they are motivated by money shows just how little respect he has for the men and women who have devoted their careers to public service in immigration.”

Vaughan told Secrets that she has been concerned about morale in ICE and raised the issue with Homeland Secretary Jeh Johnson.
