2 Toyota SUVs collide in pre Super Bowl Ridgewood Crash

8:45 PM

Ridgewood NJ, A Toyota Highlander collided with a Toyota Sequoia at the intersection of North Walnut Street and Robinson Lane just prior to the Super Bowl kickoff on Sunday evening.

The Highlander’s driver was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with non life threatening neck & back injuries; the Sequoia’s driver was uninjured.  The collision’s force propelled both vehicles head on into immovable objects; the Highlander wound up smashed into a utility pole and the Sequoia wedged against a large tree.  Each car sustained heavy front end damage; both were removed by flatbed tow trucks.  Air bags deployed in both vehicles during the crash.  A stop sign was destroyed in the crash and the utility pole requires replacement.

RIdgewood FD personnel attended to a minor fluid spill resultant from the crash.  One summons was issued in connection with the incident; police at the scene did not reveal its nature.

Cantor: ‘Obamacare is on borrowed time’

By JENNIFER EPSTEIN |

2/2/14 9:15 AM EST

The end of the Affordable Care Act is within sight, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says, outlining Republican plans to propose health care legislation later this year.

“In my opinion, Obamacare is on borrowed time,” the Virginia Republican said in an interview for Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “As we begin to see the further growth in terms of implementation of this law, you will see, I believe, more and more people negatively affected. And there’s going to be a real problem, a real need for an alternative.”

And that alternative will come from House Republicans this year, Cantor said, drawing on the proposal they put forward back when the ACA first passed.

Sit back and enjoy: This Super Bowl could be epic

Sit back and enjoy: This Super Bowl could be epic

The two best teams in football will step inside MetLife Stadium tonight for Super Bowl XLVIII in what promises to be a historic setting in East Rutherford.

They have dreams of bathing in team-colored confetti, a championship parade and taking turns hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Broncos have them. The Seahawks do, too.

No one ever contemplates what coming up short will feel like until it happens.

The top team in one conference will win. The top team in the other will not.

That’s as rock-solid a Super Bowl guarantee as any made by Joe Namath.

“I don’t think we envision ourselves losing. We wouldn’t play the game if we did,” Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said. “We would just forfeit it and not waste our time doing this media [availability]. We could be home with our families, at Disney World or maybe Turks and Caicos or something like that.

“We don’t envision ourselves losing at all.”

Added Broncos safety and Paterson native Mike Adams: “Nobody remembers who finishes as Super Bowl runner-up, so nobody thinks that way.”

Why doesn’t MetLife Stadium have a roof? ‘They’ have the answer

Why doesn’t MetLife Stadium have a roof? ‘They’ have the answer

The question has been asked around North Jersey for years, and no doubt visitors from Denver and Seattle today will ask the same thing: “If they wanted to have a Super Bowl so badly, why didn’t they put a retractable roof on MetLife Stadium?”

The answer ultimately comes down to who “they” are.

Had leaders of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority at the time had their way, the 4-year-old stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex would be capped against inclement weather, a feature that would have turned it into all-year venue.

But owners of the Giants and Jets, the two NFL franchises that built and paid for the new $1.6 billion stadium, would have none of it.

First, they said, they saw an added advantage for their teams in playing late-season games outdoors against opponents less accustomed to harsh weather.

And then, of course, there was the added expense.

Xanadu : A monument to NJ greedy self serving politicians ?

Empty shell of American Dream, MetLife Stadium’s ugly neighbor, still awaits makeover

When Marianne Krause goes to a concert in another city, she keeps an eye out for beautiful buildings nearby. But when millions of people look to East Rutherford this weekend to watch the Super Bowl, Krause hopes they keep their eyes locked firmly on the game.

That’s because right next door to MetLife Stadium sits a gigantic, empty, multicolored mall once known as Xanadu, the long-dormant retail and entertainment project that Governor Christie once called one of the ugliest buildings in America.

The fewer people who notice it, Krause figures, the better.

“I’m embarrassed by it, and I think the state will be embarrassed by it,” said Krause, 29, of East Rutherford. “It’s really ugly.”

When developers originally proposed building a megamall in the Meadowlands in 2003, they envisioned a completion date sometime in 2006. In the years since, the project now called American Dream has blown through two developers, one name change and $2 billion. Across the parking lot, one stadium was razed and a new one was built.

Senators try to sack NFL’s non-profit status

By David Sherfinski-The Washington Times Thursday, January 30, 2014

Sens. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican, and Angus King, Maine Independent, have started a push to end the not-for-profit status for the National Football League, saying it’s only fair to taxpayers.

“This is a directed tax cut that [went] to the league office, which means every other American pays a little bit more every year because we give the NFL league office a tax break and call them a non-profit,” Mr. Coburn said on CNN’s “New Day.” “In fact, they’re not.”

Reader says No Wonder People don’t Speak up Their afraid of payback

That makes it right? Your answer is don’t run for office because there will political retribution not only on you which I,m sure he new would happen but it ok to extend this to your family. These are the moral people you want in office .

Sounds like a dictatorship. Let me do what I want or I will punish you and your family.

No wonder people don’t speak up. Their afraid of payback. What a country. Hear that everyone if you don’t like what the your government doing don’t try to change it because they will get you. Just keep your mouth shut and just let do what ever they want.

Council knew of recruits legacy background before they were given the go ahead

Ridgewood-_supervisor_close_theridgewoodblog.net_4-1

Council knew of  recruits legacy background before they were given the go ahead

The village nepotism policy states that when a potential hire is a legacy, the village manager must supply the council with his or her legacy background.

If you watch the public meeting, Heather clearly states that she informed the council of the recruits legacy background before they were given the go ahead.

Then the council approved these two hires to proceed with medical exams, drug tests, and psychological exams.

The nepotism policy should not even be in question at this stage. Heather also stated that when question by Albert that no non-legacy candidate was skipped over.

In fact, the only candidate that was skipped over was a legacy. In addition, the skipped candidate is the one who has the most political and municipal ties of them all.

Council Apologist Says Stay out of Politics if you Don’t Want Retribution

Ridgewood_-Village_Hall_theridgewoodblog.net_1

Council Apologist Says Stay out of Politics if you Don’t Want Retribution

Either the town is a civil service town (as we are, and as such we comply with civil service rules) or its not. The ‘nepotism’ policy, despite being well intended, does not have any place in a town that is governed by civil service rules. By applying this on top of civil service, someone could probably spend a few dollars on an attorney and invalidate it.
It would be an appropriate policy if we had a ‘chief’s test’ whereby ‘favorites’ or insiders (such as dispatchers) were hired, like many non-civil service towns.
Anyone who wants to rent a room or an apartment *and file federal income taxes and vote* can become a Village resident, eligible for hiring for any civil service position that requires residency. It does not require you to ‘grow up in town’.
Despite all of the above written by other posters, politics and ‘paybacks’ are the way it is in the real world.
If someone had a bitch with the former Mayor and chose to bring a legitimate question up before the council, so be it. The council must act in accordance with their ‘nepotism’ policy, or rescind it.
If one chooses to ‘throw their hat’ into the political arena, one must be ready to ‘suffer the consequences’. If the former mayor was more concerned about his son’s future employment, maybe he should have not entered politics and sat on the sidelines and enjoyed his retirement check.
That’s the way it is in the real world. And that’s why many successful businessman from the private sector wouldn’t get into politics…EVER.

Chris Christie attacks N.Y. Times, David Wildstein

Bridgeaplooza Is the story more about media bias  ?

By MIKE ALLEN | 2/1/14 5:19 PM EST

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), after a low-key initial response to Friday’s explosive allegations about his bridge-closing involvement, mounted a pugilistic defense late Saturday afternoon, attacking The New York Times and a former political ally in an email to friends and allies obtained by POLITICO.

“Bottom line – David Wildstein will do and say anything to save David Wildstein,” the email from the governor’s office says, referring to the former appointee who reignited the controversy. A letter from Wildstein’s lawyer on Friday asserted that “evidence exists … tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the Governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference.”

Signed contracts to buy existing homes dropped 8.7 percent in December as abnormally cold weather hit much of the U.S., according to a new report from the National Association of Realtors.

The plunge caught economists by surprise. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast pending home sales would tick up 0.3 percent.

Gibson Commemorates Fed Raid with Government Series II Les Paul

Meredith Bragg & Anthony L. Fisher|Feb. 1, 2014 11:00 am

Two years after Gibson factories in Tennessee were raided by government agents, the venerable guitar manufacturer has released a special Government Series II Les Paul. As the press release explains:

Great Gibson electric guitars have long been a means of fighting the establishment, so when the powers that be confiscated stocks of tonewoods from the Gibson factory in Nashville—only to return them once there was a resolution and the investigation ended—it was an event worth celebrating. Introducing the Government Series II Les Paul, a striking new guitar from Gibson USA for 2014 that suitably marks this infamous time in Gibson’s history.

…Each Government Series II Les Paul also includes a genuine piece of Gibson USA history in its solid rosewood fingerboard, which is made from wood returned to Gibson by the US government after the resolution.
