Reader says They are going to outsource the Fleet Services

They are going to outsource the Fleet Services. Building a new garage is just a ploy. They cannot build it at the sewer plan because although we own the property we are subject to GR Planning Board and zoning. Let not forget the neighbors who will complain to the GR Council about the noise of all the equipment.

Do you think that the State of Nj is just going to give us the property on R17.

What about the clean up at that site. Who is going to pay for this state of the art central garage? No, I think the plan is to save money by laying off the garage personnel, sell the building ( no upkeep or maintenance) and make money off the land. Remember ( BIG AL THE DEVELOPER FRIEND) And for those that say that the village is exempted from their own ordinance’s remember the property is located in GR

Valley does pay over $325K in property taxes to the Village of Ridgewood every year for other properties it owns that are not directly related to proving health care services

Bike_Valley_theridgewoodblog.net

Valley does pay over $325K in property taxes to the Village of Ridgewood every year for other properties it owns that are not directly related to proving health care services.

Valley does not pay property taxes on the hospital property, due to its non-profit status.  However, it does pay over $325K in property taxes to the Village of Ridgewood every year for other properties it owns that are not directly related to proving health care services.

In order to maintain its non-profit status there are specific requirements for providing charitable health care services (free or discounted services).  I am not affiliated with Valley in any way and I do not know the wording of these IRS requirements.  Nor do I know the exact amount of charitable services provided by Valley to the communities it serves.  However, I recall being told once that the value of these services was in the tens of $millions.  Nonetheless, I am absolutely certain that this information is publicly available.  If you would like a breakdown, I suggest that you contact Valley and request whatever details you would like to see.

The following is a general description of the charitable services provided by Valley from their website.  “Valley serves the community by providing thousands of hours of healthcare education and screenings, support groups and classes to assist those in need, and care to all those who come through our doors, regardless of their ability to pay.”

Scott Garrett tours district visiting local businesses
March 13,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ Representative Garrett toured the district talking to local business people and found on common theme ,that big goveremnt was making it ever harder to prosper .

” Given the state of our slow growing economy, I spent my most recent District Work Week visiting with local businesses. The theme, expressed by both the business owners and their employees, revolved around the ever increasing burden Washington is placing on them. The rightful appeal was for relief.

As you and I both know, small business is the engine that drives the American economy. The men and women I met with are the very same people who will help turn our economy around. It’s time for Washington to give them some help. I look forward to bringing their concerns to Washington, where I will continue to advocate for pro-growth policies.”

Reader says The Ken Smith lot is an ideal location for large parking facility

Reader says The Ken Smith lot is an ideal location for large parking facility

Parking in Ridgewood has been a problem for decades with no one doing anything about it but paying lip service until it gets pass along to the next guy in office… As a kid growing up a few towns north, it was always a pain coming into Ridgewood because of parking… 17 or Westwood always was more convenient.. Fast forward 30 years later and now as a resident, I’ve still seen nothing substantial being done about it… pass the buck folks! Attracting commuters and visitors with ease of access to convenient parking will only help increase revenue for the town and its businesses…

The Ken Smith lot is an ideal location for large parking facility with close proximity to station and downtown. There is a traffic light already at the entrance to manage traffic flow and I am sure there are opportunities for the town and land owners to leverage NJ Transit in a beneficial partnership… This is what strategic, sustainable land use planning is supposed to be… the availability of centrally located property like this only comes around once in a generation…

Reader says Daniel Fishbein’s statements were well thought out and on the mark

Daniel Fishbein’s statements were well thought out and on the mark. A perfect balance.

Law enforcement prosecuting teens for the possession of said content is a little over the top though.

Teens do stupid things. This is just one in a long list of acts that might be viewed as an unwise life choice.

In some parts of the world this behavior is punishable by death, yet in other parts no one would raise an eyebrow.

Not to minimize the stupidity of girls bearing their breasts for the whole world to see but is this really any different than the streakers in the 70′s or the naked teens frolicking in the rain at Woodstock?

The only thing that has changed is the technology that delivers the information, which of course creates even more challenges for parents raising teens.

One would expect the parents of these young men and women to be deeply disappointed in their children’s lack of good judgment. The public shame and humiliation is surly more than sufficient “punishment.”

As for the young man who came up with the Instagram title, “RHS nudie tooties,” well, one has to admit, that was quite clever. He has a bright future with Harvard’s National Lampoon.

March 13,2013

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Police Department would like to remind residents that with warmer weather coming they need to take precautions to avoid being victims of both car and home burglaries. Vehicles should be locked and items like IPODs, Laptops, Purses, wallets and GPS should not be left in plain sight.

Your home should also be secure and when you are not home try to make it appear that you are home. We have had a few homes entered at night that were not locked and items like wallets and laptops were taken. Please report suspicious activity to the police right away.

Readers Voice concern over Village Planning Board Attorney’s Objectivity
-Thed

Of course Price will be handling Valley with kid gloves. According to her law firm’s website, she “…represents commercial, industrial, and residential developers in connection with land development and construction related issues.”

She’s not going to go against her main source of income representing developers to get projects approved. It’s like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse.

Aronsohn better show he “has a set” and run a fair hearing as mayor (yes I realize he’s not chairman but he should have significant influence and we’ll hold him accountable if these hearings go to hell again).

Readers Sound Off on March 11th Planning Board Meeting at BF

Bike_Valley_theridgewoodblog.net_2

Readers Sound Off on March 11th Planning Board Meeting at BF

Last night we got a glimpse of how Gail Price has run and will run these hearings. When Pete McKenna from the CRR got up to ask his first and very reasonable question about using an urban planner in these hearings, Valley’s attorney got out of his chair and stormed the microphone. When he got to the mic, he physically moved Mr. McKenna out of the way so that he could object to the QUESTION.

Ms. Price opened and explained how the slate was wiped clean and all previous testimony was essentially null and void. Valley’s attorney then made a statement telling the PB who would testify and when they would testify. It left me wondering who is running the show — the PB or Valley’s attorney. Maybe this is normal as I don’t have much experience with these hearings .

Ms. Price pointed her finger at the audience when Mr. Grant’s (new planning bd member) comment about the fact that “Valley needs to expand” comment was questioned by an audience member to determine Mr. Grant’s objectivity. This is going to get nasty if Valley’s new attorney keeps objecting to everything the public has to say and Ms. Price lets him. Maybe she should call Matt Rogers for some pointers on how to run a Valley meeting..

Valley’s attorney was not only interrupting Mr. McKenna, he was interrupting members of the Board as they were attempting to answer Mr. McKenna’s question. Ms. Price allowed Valley’s attorney to continue his rant at the microphone until the audience finally shouted him down at which point Ms. Price chided the AUDIENCE for interrupting. We never did get a chance to hear the Board’s response. Unbelievable. So this is how it’s going to be. Again.

Reader says Valley is acting like bullies

will country SWAT and riot police be invited to the March 11th meeting ?

Reader says Valley is acting like bullies

I understand that someone will have to tell her to recuse herself? Please someone stop this possible lawsuit. It is going to cost this town enough trying to fight Valley Again!

The kids have a Bullying Rule in place now, how come there doesn’t seem to be one for Valley? They are acting like bullies. Pushing for over expansion until they get it?

I think their new plans look similar to their old plans. Wait, they went went from four tiers of parking to five…so much better.

Pathetic, unless your bleeding to death (or an Emergency) it may be time to start going to other area hospitals or urgent cares. Valley, has driven many of us to start thinking this way. Shame, it’s just a shame!

Reader says Valley’s argument for expanding is inconsistent.
-Thed

Valley’s argument for expanding is inconsistent. On one hand, they say there’s too many hospital beds in the area (fighting Pascack Valley reopening). On the other, they want to double their size. True, they aren’t adding a significant number of rooms, but the question must be asked: With the significant rise in outpatient care AND shorter hospital stays, as well as the so called hospital bed surplus, if Valley wants/needs single patient rooms and other amenities, they should reduce the number of rooms to keep the expansion to a reasonable size.

If you read the recent Time magazine article, which I’m sure Valley management is cursing due to the unfortunate timing (for them), you would know that it’s all about the money. Hospitals are big businesses and management earns higher and higher salaries as their empires grow.

We appreciate a good hospital here in Ridgewood. We just can’t let an unbridled expansion occur that will disproportionately impact the Ridgewood community.

Reader says say Good-Bye to Ridgewood, as we know it

Say Good-Bye to Ridgewood, as we know it, McMansion of Valley seems nearer? After years of discussions, now the town, must drop everything and vote before June the 30th? Really?

The hospital sits on a 15 acre site in the middle of a residential neighborhood and next to a middle school. Valley, is claiming that they’ve made this more appealing? Really? Going from four stories of parking to five? Their appealing makes no sense, as does this over expansion. Same plans with some more lipstick? Really?

We are all for a state-of the-art facility with single patient rooms. Just do it with minimal setbacks and building height. If you can’t achieve what you think you need then expand at your Paramus facility! Don’t ruin Ridgewood. You have options Valley, you need to really re-think your plans. You have Pascack Valley as a huge competitor now. Maybe your scope should really properly be adjusted? Valley Hospital, can thrive as a “Community Hospital” and is not endangered as they like us to think.

Valley Hospital now, puts a huge strain on Ridgewood. Doubling the size will double our problems..more traffic, more police, and more taxes. Remember Valley is NOT for profit and pays no taxes. Hey, they just started paying for water.
