Barbara Dever, mezzo-soprano.
Since her debut as Amneris in Aida at the Metropolitan Opera in 1994, Barbara Dever has been in demand throughout the world for dramatic mezzo-soprano operatic and concert repertoire. In 16 seasons at the Metropolitan Opera, Miss Dever has been heard in the house as Azucena in Il trovatore, Amneris in Aida, and Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera, Eboli in Don Carlo, and Herodias in Salome. 2009-2010 marked her 17th season at the Metropolitan, where she performed in Il trittico and as the Countess in The Nose. She was also heard as Mary in Der Fliegende Holländer with the Canadian Opera Company of Toronto, in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and Des Knaben Wunderhorn in Mexico City with the Mineria Orchestra.
In addition to her vast operatic repertoire, Miss Dever maintains an active performance schedule with orchestras throughout the world. In recent season she has been heard in Mahler’s Rückert Lieder with the State Symphony Orchestra of Sao Paulo, in the Missa Solemnis and Messiah with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, in Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Louisville Orchestra and at the Chautauqua Festival, in the Verdi Requiem with the Florida Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony, and the National Orchestra of Mexico, in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Netherlands Radio Orchestra with Hans Vonk conducting, and in numerous performances of Mahler’s Symphonies Nos. 2, 3, 8 and Das Lied von der Erde with the National Orchestra of Mexico.

Although Paul “the spin doctor” Aronsohn is attempting to say that it was JUST an innocent video, there was actually a targeted, taxpayer funded, well engineered, pro-garage campaign being executed and the Village Manager’s office was serving as campaign headquarters.

Paramus NJ , Surrounded by his family and hundreds of supporters at VFW Post 6699 in Paramus, John McCann announced his candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District.
John J. McCann is a conservative leader who has successfully fought for conservative principles at every level of government. A resident of Oakland, McCann is General Counsel to the New Jersey Sheriffs Association and former Cresskill Councilman. In addition, John served as Counsel to the Bergen County Sheriff and he was involved in the effort to defeat HillaryCare in the United States Senate.
“I am working to protect the American Dream for people who work hard and play by the rules to help create jobs and opportunity for all Americans, and to safeguard the freedoms that are under attack by liberal politicians in Washington,” said McCann.
A practicing attorney, John McCann advises Sheriffs across the state on both legal and policy issues as General Counsel to the New Jersey Sheriffs Association. During his career, McCann has been a legal advisor for many Chiefs of Police, as well as serving as General Counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation in New York City. In 2010, McCann helped elect the first Bergen County Republican Sheriff in nine years and then he served as General Counsel for the Sheriff of Bergen County, where he played an integral role keeping the office’s budget below the rate of inflation. John was credited with saving taxpayers over a million dollars in inmate medical spending, while at the same time drafting and implementing a new family leave policy that dramatically reduced overtime costs. Most significantly, he is recognized for shepherding through a legal strategy that eliminated a redundant law enforcement agency in Bergen County, saving taxpayers millions of dollars.
“Voters are tired of words without action. We need to elect people who have a track record of actual success,” said McCann. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to protect taxpayers, keep our community safe and defend the Constitution.”
As a candidate for office in 1995, McCann first proposed a 2% property tax cap for New Jersey and, while serving on the town council in Cresskill, John fought against 10% municipal pay increases. On the town council, John worked to build a recreation center without any taxpayer money, which continues to operate solely through the fees it generates. As a Fellow working in the United States Senate in 1993-94, John McCann created the chart that helped shift public opinion in opposition to President Clinton’s proposed HillaryCare legislation.
“My campaign is to create a more affordable future for families in New Jersey,” McCann said. “The liberal agenda pushed by lifelong bureaucrat Josh Gottheimer isn’t right for New Jersey, and isn’t right for the people of the 5th congressional district.”

John and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 27 years. They raised their two daughters in Cresskill and now reside in Oakland. Hackensack NJ , State Senator Mike Doherty, (R-Warren), today announced his support for conservative Republican Steve Lonegan in his campaign for congress in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District.
“Steve Lonegan has led the fight for every worthwhile conservative cause in New Jersey for the last two decades,” Sen. Doherty said. “And he’s often been out front when few, if any, in the state legislature were willing to stand behind him. But in 2018, the Republican Party will unify behind Steve to take back the Fifth Congressional District.”
Sen. Doherty and Mayor Lonegan have been long-time friends and allies. In 2009, Doherty ran on Lonegan’s line in the Primary election winning a tough battle for the State Senate.

Ridgewood NJ, Nine (9) high school students from the Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township escaped injury when the school bus on which they were riding collided with a Volkswagen Passat sedan at the intersection of Godwin Avenue and South Monroe Street, Ridgewood on Wednesday afternoon, 11/29. The adult male driver of the Volkswagen sustained a non life threatening injury, but declined ambulance transport to a local hospital. The school bus driver was uninjured. Ridgewood Police, EMS, and Fire Department personnel responded to the incident. A flatbed tow truck removed the wrecked Passat from the scene; the school bus was able to drive away on its own power. Ridgewood PD issued one (1) crash related summons to the Volkswagen’s driver.
Ridgewood NJ, Two (2) individuals sustained non life threatening injuries in a crash between a 4-door sedan and a cargo van at the intersection of Gardner Road and Lincoln Avenue, Ridgewood on Wednesday morning, 11/29. Ridgewood Police, EMS and Fire Department responded to the incident. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Fire Department personnel attended to a moderately sized crash related fluid spill.
Ridgewood NJ, UPDATE: A report from an certified arborist has been received and reviewed by Village officials. The report indicates that the tree has a void approximately 8 feet long, extending from above ground into the tree’s underground root system. The arborist’s report recommends immediate removal of the tree citing the possibility that all of the tree, or significant portions of it, could be severely damaged and/or fall to the ground during a major storm event. Based on this report, the tree is still scheduled for removal during the first week of December.

It’s a prominent and important tree, and I’ve been an advocate for not only planting more trees but also maintaining what we have. With more focus on maintenance of our existing trees we might find that some older, larger trees must come down, but if we continue with a robust replacement program the over all canopy will be maintained in the Village.”
Ridgewood NJ, Bone treats are real bones that have been processed, sometimes flavored, and packaged for dogs. Giving your dog a “bone treat” might lead to an unexpected trip to your veterinarian, a possible emergency surgery, or even death for your pet.
Many dog owners know not to toss a turkey or chicken bone to their dog; those bones are just too brittle. But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says the risk goes beyond that, especially when it comes to the “bone treats” you may see at the store.
What’s a Bone Treat?
FDA has received about 68 reports of pet illnesses related to “bone treats,” which differ from uncooked butcher-type bones because they are processed and packaged for sale as dog treats. A variety of commercially-available bone treats for dogs—including treats described as “Ham Bones,” “Pork Femur Bones,” “Rib Bones,” and “Smokey Knuckle Bones”—were listed in the reports. The products may be dried through a smoking process or by baking, and may contain other ingredients such as preservatives, seasonings, and smoke flavorings.
So if you’re planning to give your dog a stocking full of bone treats this holiday season, you may want to reconsider. According to Carmela Stamper, a veterinarian in the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at the FDA, “Giving your dog a bone treat might lead to an unexpected trip to your veterinarian, a possible emergency surgery, or even death for your pet.”
Illnesses Reported
Illnesses reported to FDA by owners and veterinarians in dogs that have eaten bone treats have included:
Gastrointestinal obstruction (blockage in the digestive tract)
Choking
Cuts and wounds in the mouth or on the tonsils
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Bleeding from the rectum, and/or
Death. Approximately fifteen dogs reportedly died after eating a bone treat.
The reports, sent in by pet owners and veterinarians, involved about 90 dogs (some reports included more than one dog). In addition, FDA received seven reports of product problems, such as moldy-appearing bones, or bone treats splintering when chewed by the pet.
Tips to Keep Your Dog Safe
Here are some tips to keep your dog safe:
Chicken bones and other bones from the kitchen table can cause injury when chewed by pets, too. So be careful to keep platters out of reach when you’re cooking or the family is eating.
Be careful what you put in the trash can. Dogs are notorious for helping themselves to the turkey carcass or steak bones disposed of there.
Talk with your veterinarian about other toys or treats that are most appropriate for your dog. There are many available products made with different materials for dogs to chew on.
“We recommend supervising your dog with any chew toy or treat, especially one she hasn’t had before,” adds Stamper. “And if she ‘just isn’t acting right,’ call your veterinarian right away!”
