Police often use cellphones for work, freeing up radio airtime while they make calls related to police business. Sometimes they need confidential information that they don’t want to be picked up by anyone listening to a police scanner.
Other times they are calling people who have called police. And cellphones are a handy tool when calling another police agency that does not share the same radio channel.
But why can’t they make those calls on hands-free devices? Here’s one reason: Many officers wear an earpiece for their portable radio in one ear, and background noise from police radios, scanners and sirens can make hearing difficult. Fitting a Bluetooth headset over an existing earpiece is not practical, police say.

Stage II restrictions (2 days per week irrigation) were imposed in June 2016 and are still in effect in Glen Rock, Midland Park, Ridgewood and Wyckoff. Without these restrictions, the use of drinking water for irrigation will continue increasing toward levels that are unsustainable regardless of drought conditions. To reverse this trend, an ordinance was approved by the Village Council on April 12, 2017 to amend the provisions governing Watering and Water Emergencies in the Village of Ridgewood Code. Changes include:
Making 2 days per week irrigation permanent year round,
Restricting irrigation hours to limit losses to evaporation,
Restricting irrigation using private wells to 2 days a week,
Adding new exemptions, including drip irrigation and smart controllers.
This ordinance became effective on May 2, 2017 and applies only to Ridgewood, but it is expected that the Boroughs of Glen Rock and Midland Park, and the Township of Wyckoff will enact similar rules as they have in the past. When I was around 5 years old, a neighbor friend of mine had a huge, Victorian dollhouse. She never seemed all that interested in it, but I thought it was beautiful. So much so, that in the years following, I would often look longingly at similar dollhouse kits at the local craft store.
Alas, the family budget was slim, so my parents never had the opportunity to provide the Victorian dollhouse of my dreams, although they would have loved to do so.
In retrospect, however, this deprivation was a positive thing, for my sister and I created our own. We pulled books from shelves to make rooms, created doll beds with cassette tapes, made miniature bedspreads from ragbag scraps, and formed appetizing, doll-sized meals from modeling clay. True fun, I discovered, came not in having my wants fulfilled, but in putting my imagination and creative skills to fill any deficit I had in “stuff.”

Ridgewood NJ, for Armed Forces day Mayor Susan Knudsen and Councilwomen Bernie Walsh along with other Ridgewood residents helped the American Legion Post 53 members place U.S. flags on the graves of their fallen comrades at Valleau Cemetery.
Hundreds of flags were placed on the graves of soldiers with the help of many volunteers including boy scouts and girl scouts.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood homeowners may Adopt-A-Tree from Village of Ridgewood. This policy will enable Ridgewood property owners to purchase and maintain a tree selected from an approved species list to place on median (village owned property) in front of their home.
A fee will be charged to homeowner, some special select species of tree may cost extra. This fee will allow Ridgewood residents to buy and a plant tree.
Trees will be planted in FALL of each year. In all instances,there are restrictions on where trees can be planted for various reasons such as sight lines, underground utilities, power lines, and sidewalk conflicts.

Ridgewood NJ, The Valley Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute has been selected as 1 of just 10 hospitals – and the only hospital in New Jersey – to participate in a nationwide study investigating a minimally invasive aortic valve replacement procedure for individuals with aortic stenosis.

The first-of-its-kind clinical trial, led by Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., aims to evaluate the use of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive procedure, in aortic stenosis patients who are at low risk for conventional open-heart surgery. TAVR is not yet approved by the FDA for use in this population. TAVR has already been established as a treatment option for intermediate- and high-risk patients. The trial is now open and will be enrolling 200 patients over a 24-month period. It will be non-randomized, meaning individuals who qualify will be selected to undergo the TAVR procedure instead of open-heart surgery.
“TAVR has already been shown to extend lives and improve the quality of life for intermediate- and high-risk patients who just a few years ago may not have had an alternative to open-heart surgery,” said John Goncalves, M.D., Director of Cardiac Surgery at The Valley Hospital and Surgical Director of Valley’s TAVR Program. “This is an exciting study to be a part of because it may potentially prove the effectiveness of TAVR for low-risk patients and open the door for others to qualify for this minimally invasive procedure in the future.”
TAVR is a procedure used to treat aortic stenosis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when blood flow is obstructed due to the narrowing of the aortic valve, one of the valves in the heart. Using TAVR, the heart team can replace a diseased aortic heart valve in a less-invasive manner than with open-heart surgery. The procedure requires only a small incision in the groin, through which an expandable heart valve is placed into the body and up to the heart via a catheter-based delivery system. Studies have shown that patients achieve better outcomes when undergoing TAVR than with medication alone.
“We are honored to be recognized for our expertise and experience with the TAVR procedure,” said Dr. Goncalves. “Clinical trials like this are critical to our work providing the highest quality and most innovative care for our patients.”

We can debate non stop about rain runoff etc but simply put.RW water Is a service provider who can no longer provide a service. We lose countless gallons due to leaks, we have wells shut down with no published plan to correct, and the argument about storage tanks is non existent.
That anyone is willing to accept paying more for less is simply amazing. Nature has provided plenty of water, Ridgewood is unique in that we don’t know how to manage the resource.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police report that Ridgewood Residents have reported being the target of a telephone kidnap scam. The scam works by a caller claiming a relative has been kidnapped and not to contact anyone because they are being watched. The caller then demands money in a threatening manner. This is a widely used phone scam called the virtual kidnap scam according to the FBI and has been reported nationwide over the past several years. Don’t become the victim of a scam. Report suspicious activity the Ridgewood Police Department.
Face it – – Its an issue we need to deal with and not stick our heads in the sand over – – we don’t have enough water to sustain what we are doing. It was a key issue brought to the attention of Mayor Airbag when he forced through the tenement buildings in downtown Ridgewood and now we will have to pay the price of providing water to over 500 new families when they move to town.
They’re Ridgewood residents and it’s not simply a choice. I think they’re being as diplomatic as the law alllws them to be.
They have to adhere to the law and the ordinances in place. Pay attention to the whole picture. They’re doing what they can. But where was your outrage and outcry long before now. When things could have been done.
You’re too late. And you’re not correct.
That said. Sure. Go to the meeting and speak. I think it would be refreshing to see some people in attendance at a planning board meeting. I go and I watch. Never anyone there.
Ridgewood NJ, The James Rose Center, a nonprofit landscape research and study foundation, is housed in what was the home of the late landscape architect James Rose.
Unfortunately during a wind storm last year, a large tree uprooted and caused significant damage to the roof garden and adjacent structures . The damage also revealed other structural problems with the home leading to expensive repairs that are necessary to make the property safe.
If you do not know James Rose was a real character . A true iconoclast . Along with Garrett Eckbo and Dan Kiley, James Rose was one of the leaders of the modern movement in American landscape architecture. I had the opportunity to meet him many times in the late 70’s and very early 80’s. He would always make an impression .Love him or hate him , you would never forget him. Rose was known for his out spoken hi-jinks and his cavalier way of making you feel like an idiot. He was brilliant, creative and someone who always thought out side the box. That would however get him in trouble from time to time .I credit him with my appreciation of gardening and landscaping.
I had a landscaping business at the time and he gave me a signed copy of his book , “Gardens Make Me Laugh” which fundamentally altered the way I looked at the world. It is most likely the single most obnoxious gardening book ever written. The off beat book had an over sized influence on my life. The book is loaded with gardening and philosophy antidotes and is also one of the main reasons I was never accepted into the college of my choice . I used the book for all my college essays and apparently admissions offices did not share Mr. Rose’s and my sense of humor. However during my early college days I actually got a job based on the fact that I knew who James Rose was .
His most famous quote , “The problem is you live here” is one of the guiding principles of the Ridgewood blog to this day
