Overwhelming Majority Continue to Say Country is Heading in Wrong Direction

Ridgewood NJ, a recent AP-NORC survey conducted shortly after the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy found that a significant 78% of U.S. adults believe the country is moving in the wrong direction. In contrast, only 21% expressed the belief that the U.S. is heading in the right direction. This represents a decline from a month earlier when 75% of Americans thought the country was on the wrong track, compared to 25% who believed it was headed in the right direction. The poll reflects the most negative sentiment about the country’s direction since May, coinciding with the time of the debt ceiling crisis. President Biden received a net job approval rating of 38% and a net disapproval rating of 61%. Furthermore, a net 54% of respondents viewed President Biden unfavorably, while 42% viewed him favorably. These results demonstrate a widespread sense of dissatisfaction with the country’s current trajectory.
