Demarest  NJ,  this spring, the Regina Angelorum Chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 84 of the Academy of the Holy Angels’ top scholars from the junior and senior classes. NHS Moderator and AHA science teacher Sharon Jureller organized the May 20 induction ceremony, which was led by NHS Chapter President Valentina Zazzali and Vice President JaeMin Chu.

Inductees are selected for reflecting the society’s pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. This year’s theme was service, which Jureller said builds a better quality of life and allows individuals to grow and develop.

AHA Principal Jean Miller congratulated the 2021 inductees, noting the great potential of those students who rise to the top in a school that is known for rigorous academics. Miller pointed out that induction is not a goal in itself, but a stepping stone to the greater gifts life offers when we serve others.

Inductees promise to uphold the society’s ideals at school and in their lives. The following honorees took the NHS pledge:

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious high school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
