HACKENSACK, NJ — A joint investigation is currently unfolding in the heart of Hackensack after a 16-year-old was stabbed during a brazen daylight attack on Tuesday afternoon. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO) Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are working to identify a group of suspects who fled the scene.
The incident has drawn a massive law enforcement presence to the area, including the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, as detectives piece together the moments leading up to the violence.
The Incident: Attack at Union and Central
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, Hackensack police received a call regarding an injured person near the intersection of Banta Place and State Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 16-year-old victim suffering from at least one stab wound. Preliminary investigations have revealed a terrifying sequence of events:

The Confrontation: The teenager was reportedly approached by “several suspects” at the intersection of Central Avenue and Union Street.

The Assault: The suspects attacked the teen and immediately fled the area on foot or by vehicle before police arrived.

The Recovery: The victim was found a short distance away and was rushed by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC).
Status Update: As of Tuesday evening, the victim is reported to be in stable condition.
