the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, and idea proposed by Ridgewood resident Saurabh Dani on the Facebook page “it takes a Ridgewood Village ” and could lay to rest any ambitions of build a parking garage in Ridgewood .
Dani suggests, if you live at a walking distance from Glen Rock ,Ridgewood or HoHokus train stations, there may be an opportunity to make money.
How about renting your driveway to a village resident or a few village residents if it’s big enough. You can charge anything that’s less than 83$ a month depending on how far you live from a train station, as that’s what the town is charging and is profitable at that price.
83$ a month is 1000$ a year. To spend $1000 a year, most of us have to earn about 1600-1700 a year (pre tax). So this is a good bonus for not much work.. you will just need to designate a specific spot on your driveway and exchange money every month.
We can probably use this Facebook page to create this market place. Thoughts?
I have a nice home near a transportstion hub. I like to be in a walkable part of town. It is private property. Why would I go through the hassle of renting it out?My taxes are 27k. $200 a month makes no difference to my life.
Maybe the wealthy commuters who chose a quiet street on the far side of town should just move.
Well if you do your rat neighbors will call the Mayor and there will be a new ordinance making it illegal in a few weeks.
Would this be Airbnb for cars?
Yup @ 9:19. Ridgewood is a walkable, commuter town and has always been that way. Buy a home near town and you walk to your commute. Many do live within walking distance but choose not to for a variety of reasons.
When I moved to town it was a known quantity that parking near the train was limited, get there by 7 or walk. This was when the car dealerships were in business and there was no parking in Hudson street lot for commuters.
Lastly, even garagzilla would have been very very limited in number of commuter parking as it was always intended for shoppers and diners to support the CBD. The fact hat it could support many commuters would only be relevant if store employees and shoppers were unwilling to park 3 flights up to grab a coffee. And even then commuters who are so rushed in the morning would have to park on the highest level and walk over.
i realize that this assclown is all full of himself because he’s lived in town a minute and a half and is already the chief ass-kisser to the new council but making some lame joke about a real problem people are facing because of the idiocy of our elected officials is offensive.
@11:28 his wife commutes daily and he has full appreciation for the issues people face. He admonished the council for poor communication already.
We all understand commuting sucks and commuting via NJ transit sucks more, but that still doesn’t mean you need to act like a mean, arrogant, jerk. Commuter issues are not more important to anyone else’s issues. And guess what to the other posters ranting on facebook? you can leave your house earlier to park farther. Or you can stop buying the expensive passes, park elsewhere and see if decreased demand reduces prices. You knew the situation when you moved here or at least should have.
11:28. All residents are equal. It does not matter if you lived here 50 years or 1 week.
You use crude language. What was your point? It gets lost in your anger.
poor communication? it’s stupid policy. if they had personally delivered it on engraved note cards to each individual in town it wouldn’t change that. the price is set out of market. the spaces reserved for shoppers and diners aren’t in the right place or the right quantity. they have botched this beyond belief. and the mayor saying that it wasn’t communicated well sounds just like like slippery paul when the bike lane to nowhere was put in. it’s not about bad communicating — it’s about bad thinking.
11:28 you are one rude, self-entitled SOB. How do your wife and child stand you?
Saurabh Dani is one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met. Ridgewood could use more people like him. Thank you Saurabh for all that you do for Ridgewood.
11:28, you are a terrible person and I am betting your legal career is in the dumps.
11:28 – why not walk to the corner of your block and hop on the bus. We don’t need angry road-raged assholes driving around.
We are doing a lot of fiddling here over side issues. The real problem staring us in the face for commuters, parkers, taxpayers…in other words, all residents, is the massive apartment structures approved by Paul Aronson and his team just before he left office. (Saurabh, by the way, is one of the few who gets the magnitude of the problem left to us and who is trying to speak up and do something about it.)
Aronson sold off the town and his fellow citizens to developers. The question now is what is the current council doing to correct the problem. They have taken some initial steps, and that has been great, but further action is needed. Rather than worrying about whether or not there are 10 airbnb units in town, we need to be concerned about how many hundreds or thousands of new families are going to be shoved into our downtown. What will the effect be on our schools? On our taxes? On our Village way of life?
Speak up to the council about those issues before its too late. Quit worrying about how many cars are parked in your neighbor’s driveway, and let’s give some serious thoughts to a real danger.
1:17 is right. Its a Fubar…rotten Egg layed by the VC as their first missed kick…not to early to rebuild a revised policy. Rebuild some credibility. We wont hate you
I do not live near any train station, so this would not affect me personally, but if I did, I would be very much less than thrilled (at these prices) to hear a bunch of car doors slamming (or smell the exhaust) next door five days a week, early morning and at night, and to hear the drivers talking to each other or on their cellphones under my window or playing music or smoking, and worry about speeding commuters hitting a child. 9:49 AM was right on with “airbnb for cars.” I say no to this idea.
I guess the council looked at Jame’s vanity shot of the beautiful leafy Ridgewood station and said $250 increase..that’s sounds like a good Number for a vanity spot for the rich and famous…and let’s look into that AirBnB. See if we can tax or kill that too…not completely optimistic that the promised change has completely arrived..like a No Show in the hotel business ..promises matter…its early enough for the VC to stand and deliver ..they are mostly good and talented professionals…
11:28 I promise you we would all rather have Saurabh Dani as a friend, neighbor and even foe, than someone like you. I hear the market is good. Consider selling. Bye.
so this is what passes for evolved thinking from the mayor’s amen corner: “i disagree with you so you have to move” or “you have offended my snow flake sensibilities so you must be silenced and banished.” you can rest assured i’m going to stay right here. one thing living here for 45 years has taught me is that good sense will win the day over short sighted ignorance and grand standing. i can wait.
