The Ridgewood Historical Society & Museum successfully buried a community time capsule designed to remain underground for exactly 50 years.

This historic vault acts as a physical snapshot of modern life, containing carefully curated artifacts, local memorabilia, and cultural touchstones that capture the unique spirit of the village in 2026.

What’s Inside the 2026 Ridgewood Time Capsule?

To give future residents an authentic look at daily life, the capsule was packed with items reflecting current achievements, local culture, and community connections. Key highlights include:

  • Championship Sports Coverage: A pristine copy of The Ridgewood News featuring front-page coverage of Ridgewood High School’s historic, title-winning sports teams.

  • Daily Life Artifacts: Items showcasing how residents live, work, celebrate, and stay connected in the digital age.

  • Snapshots of the Community: Local records and tokens highlighting the cultural landscape of the Village of Ridgewood.

Unlocking the Vault in 2076

When the capsule is finally unearthed and opened in 2076, future generations will have a rare opportunity to look back at their roots. The project provides an invaluable educational tool, allowing future historians and residents to see exactly how the community evolved over five decades.

A special thank you goes out to the dedicated volunteers and staff at the Ridgewood Historical Society for their continuous efforts in safeguarding our shared heritage and making this preservation project a reality.

  2. When will Pee Wee’s Reign of Error end…?
