Paramus NJ, four (4) individuals were transported by ambulances to two (2) area hospitals following a multi-vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound in Paramus early Wednesday afternoon, 03/09. A rolled over dump truck involved in the crash spilled gravel over two (2) lanes of the busy highway, a concrete center divider was obliterated, and a crash related fluid spill triggered a response by Hazmat personnel. At least three (3) passenger vehicles were towed from the incident, which at times closed all lanes of Route 17 southbound and northbound. Paramus Police , Paramus Fire Department, Paramus EMS, and the Paramus Rescue squad all had personnel on the ground at the scene. NJDOT also responded with numerous emergency vehicles and personnel.
Three heavily-damaged smaller vehicles had to be towed from the scene while responders called in heavy-duty wreckers to upright the dump truck. According to sources, some vehicles in the northbound lanes were struck with fragments of the divider. Three victims were transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. A victim that endured more serious injuries was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack.
