28 pages on alleged Saudi ties to 9/11 to be released as soon as Friday

(CNN)The long-classified pages detailing alleged Saudi Arabia government ties to the 9/11 hijackers will be released by Congress as early as Friday, sources told CNN Thursday.

Known as the “28 pages,” the document was part of a 2002 Congressional investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks and has been classified since the report’s completion.
Sources said there are still some procedural steps that need to be taken before the release.

Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the report will be posted on line soon.
“The House Intelligence Committee will get the redacted report today or tomorrow,” Schiff said. “The Senate and House intel committees should then give the formal go ahead to release the report since they originally produced it.”

Under pressure from the victims’ families and lawmakers, President Barack Obama said in April his administration would declassify the pages. That same month, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said mid-June was a realistic target date for their release.

A Saudi Imam, 2 Hijackers and Lingering 9/11 Mystery

9/11 wtc

By MARK MAZZETTI and SCOTT SHANEJUNE 17, 2016

WASHINGTON — Inside an opulent palace in Riyadh late one evening in February 2004, two American investigators interrogated a man they believed might hold answers to one of the lingering mysteries of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks: What role, if any, did officials in Saudi Arabia’s government play in the plot?

The man under questioning, Fahad al-Thumairy, had been a Saudi consular official based in Los Angeles and the imam of a mosque visited by two of the hijackers. The investigators, staff members of the national 9/11 commission who had waited all day at the United States Embassy before being summoned to the late-night interview, believed that tying him to the plot could be a step toward proving Saudi government complicity in the attacks.

They were unsuccessful. In two interviews lasting four hours, Mr. Thumairy, a father of two then in his early 30s, denied any ties to the hijackers or their known associates. Presented with phone records that seemed to contradict his answers, he gave no ground, saying the records were wrong or people were trying to smear him. The investigators wrote areport to their bosses saying they believed Mr. Thumairy was probably lying, though no government investigation into the Sept. 11 attacks has ever found conclusive evidence that Mr. Thumairy — or any other Saudi official — assisted in the plot.

The FBI Is Keeping 80,000 Secret Files on the Saudis and 9/11

9/11 wtc

The secret ‘28 pages’ are just the start. The FBI has another 80,000 classified documents, many of which deal with Saudi connections to the 9/11 terror plot. What’s the Bureau got?

The Obama administration may soon release 28 classified pages from a congressional investigation that allegedly links Saudis in the United States to the 9/11 attackers. A former Republican member of the 9/11 Commission alleged Thursday that there was“clear evidence” of support for the hijackers from Saudi officials.

But in Florida, a federal judge is weighing whether to declassify portions of some 80,000 classified pages that could reveal far more about the hijackers’ Saudis connections and their activities in the weeks preceding the worst attack on U.S. soil.

The still-secret files speak to one of the strangest and most enduring mysteries of the 9/11 attacks. Why did the Saudi occupants of a posh house in gated community in Sarasota, Florida, suddenly vanish in the two weeks prior to the attacks? And had they been in touch with the leader of the operation, Mohamed Atta, and two of his co-conspirators?

Donald Trump: ‘I think Islam hates us’

9/11 wtc

By Theodore Schleifer, CNN

Updated 8:30 AM ET, Thu March 10, 2016

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump said Wednesday that he thinks “Islam hates us,” drawing little distinction between the religion and radical Islamic terrorism.

“I think Islam hates us,” Trump told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, deploring the “tremendous hatred” that he said partly defined the religion. He maintained the war was against radical Islam, but said, “it’s very hard to define. It’s very hard to separate. Because you don’t know who’s who.”

READ: Donald Trump: ‘It’s over’ if I win Ohio and Florida

Asked if the hate was “in Islam itself,” Trump would only say that was for the media to figure out.

“You’re gonna have to figure that out, OK?” he told Cooper. “We have to be very vigilant. We have to be very careful. And we can’t allow people coming into this country who have this hatred of the United States.

Garrett: New Jersey families are frustrated with Washington because of spending bills like this one
Dec 18, 2015
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05), a senior Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after voting against the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill:

“While I strongly support provisions that provide health care to 9/11 first responders and address key vulnerabilities in how we issue visas to foreign visitors, this bloated $1.1 trillion spending bill doesn’t do enough to address our nation’s crippling debt, protect civil liberties, nor strengthen our national security and, therefore, I could not support it. New Jersey families are frustrated with Washington because of spending bills like this that are 2,000 pages long, include new surveillance provisions which were inserted in the middle of the night, lack adequate security from the threat of terrorists seeking to cross our borders, and add to the nearly $20 trillion national debt that is hindering our economy.”

Jersey City 9/11 Celebration Report CBS

UPDATE: NYC Police Commissioner Confirms Trump’s Claims https://youtu.be/cd52KkFwQWQ

I was in charge in N.J. on 9/11 and Trump’s claims never happened

From my vantage point at New Jersey’s Command Center in Liberty State Park, I looked directly across the Hudson and saw the 22-story-high flames and the black and white smoke billowing from where the World Trade Center had collapsed. John Farmer Jr., Star-Ledger Read more

One retired FBI agent says Donald Trump’s claims of seeing Muslim celebrations following the attacks on 9-11 are absolutely plausible.

Jim Burkett was an assistant special agent in charge with the FBI’s office in Boston during 9-11 and afterward.  He says during that time the office received tons of phone calls from people who feared more attacks and others reporting suspicious activity.

Many of those calls, said Burkett, came from concerned and angry Americans reporting Muslim’s celebrating over the destruction of the twin towers and damage to the Pentagon.  The calls were logged, reports were made and there were “stacks and stacks” of them, he said.

Burkett says somebody in the office began labeling them “Happy Muslim Calls.”  Most of the calls he said were deemed unimportant and the agency didn’t see fit to initiate investigations.

Clock ticking down on 9/11 responder law

US-ATTACKS-9/11-ANNIVERSARY

By Mike Lillis – 11/28/15 12:11 PM EST

Lawmakers in both chambers are racing against the clock to extend health and compensation benefits for the responders and victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Parts of the James Zadroga Act expired last month — and funds for the health benefits program will begin drying up early next year — but the effort to renew the law has been hampered by ongoing disagreements over spending levels, the window for reauthorization and which offsets will cover the multi-billion-dollar price tag.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who supports the reauthorization effort, has called on a pair of committee heads — Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) — to iron out those details.

“We should get this done by the end of the year,” Ryan said last week.

The request is in line with Ryan’s promise to stick to regular order in moving bills through the lower chamber.

But with the clock ticking down on 2015, the champions of the Zadroga renewal increasingly see their best chance in attaching the measure to a larger legislative package. The highway bill is one option, supporters say. But the better odds might lie with the omnibus bill, a year-end spending package Congress must pass by Dec. 11 to prevent a government shutdown.

“That appears to be the vehicle,” Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), a lead sponsor of the House bill, said Wednesday by phone. “The problem is we’re coming down to the wire here.”

Trumps Comments on 9/11 Set of Firestorm in New Jersey

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop owes an apology to all 9/11 victims and should resign immediately!

November 23,2015
PJ Blogger and

Ridgewood NJ, for many 9/11 is a day they will always remember with a sadness but for some it was a day of celebrations . The buildings had not yet fallen , the NY Water Way Ferries will still evacuating people , crowds were gathering along the Hudson and yes some were dancing in the street waving Palestinian flags and celebrating . It happen in Jersey City and in Patterson ,in fact the police kept angry mobs from attacking them . It was witnessed by thousand of people in Hoboken and Jersey City .

The recent attempt to deny Donald Trumps comments is more COWARD historical revisionism . Many of my friends who were still alive saw it with our own eyes. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop should learn to shut his mouth and not speak about things he is clueless  . Over 200 people that I knew died on that day and as they say it is what it is and they did what they did and no amount of lying will change that period. It is vile and unconscionable to lie about the events on 9/11 and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop owes an apology to all 9/11 victims and should resign immediately!  History will not be rewritten for your convenience.

Rep Scott Garrett meets with Jon Stewart to discuss the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act

Scott Garrett and Jon Stewart

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Earlier this month Rep Scott Garrett meet with 9/11 activist Jon Stewart to discuss the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, created to help fist responders and survivors of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Garrett had remarked on 9/11 ,” It has been 14 years since a horrific Tuesday morning in September forever changed the lives of every American. While the scars will always remain, we will never forget.

We will never forget those we lost. We will never forget those who ran into danger to help their fellow man and woman. We will never forget that evil forces still conspire to destroy our very way of life. And we will never forget those who sacrifice everything to defend our freedom.”

Garrett went on , “In the midst of chaos, in our hour of need, brave first responders saw the horrors of the September 11th terrorist attacks unfold before them, and they ran toward the danger to help their fellow man and woman. Today, they need us, and I’m proud to once again extend my gratitude to these heroes by urging my colleagues to support the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

Thanks to Jon Stewart, a longtime advocate for this cause, my Congressional colleagues, and the 9/11 first responders who came to Washington, D.C. today to spread the word about this important legislation.

How Ahmed’s clock became a false, convenient tale of racism

clock not bomb

one is a clock one is a bomb , a week after 9/11

By Kyle Smith

September 19, 2015 | 2:35pm

When is America going to get serious about the problem of white kids getting suspended from school for nothing?

By now you’ve heard the story of Ahmed Mohamed, crowned by the Daily Beast “The Muslim Hero America Has Been Waiting For” after the 14-year-old brought to school a beeping, strange-looking homemade concealed device that turned out to be a clock.

School officials, thinking, as 95% of Americans would, that it kinda looked like a bomb, hauled him out of class. Police put him in handcuffs and, even after the confusion passed, the boy was suspended from school.

That earned Mohamed a planned trip to the White House, a message of support from Hillary Clinton, an offer to stop by Facebook to meet Mark Zuckerberg and an invitation to be an intern at Twitter.

Time moves on. Tom and Josephine Acquaviva of Wayne know that all too well..

He’s 81 now; she’s 76.

But today, as they have every year since Sept. 11, 2001, they will make their way to the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan to hear two words:

Paul Acquaviva – the name of their son who died that day.

Commemorating 9/11 is an annual rite steeped in tradition. It is also a deeply personal ritual that helps many connect in a simple but meaningful way to the tragedy of that day and its human toll.

Each year at the Memorial Plaza that surrounds the acre-sized footprints of the World Trade Center towers, the names of each of the nearly 3,000 victims who perished on 9/11 are slowly read.

It is a solemn, three-hour ritual that evokes not only the sheer scope of the tragedy, but also how the 9/11 attacks touched so many diverse corners of America.

Names of janitors and waiters are recited along with those of stockbrokers and lawyers. There are immigrants from Africa and those whose families had lived in America for a century or more — an ethnic kaleidoscope that includes an “Adams” and an “Abad” in the first minutes and a “Zhao” and a “Zukelman” at the end.

But while the ceremony’s rhythms have become familiar to most of us, it has also become distressingly obvious in recent years that the size of the crowd — nearly 10,000 for the early ceremonies — has dwindled. In recent years, only about 100 people have lingered near the stage as the last names were read.

Like many victims’ relatives, Tom and Josephine Acquaviva say they have watched with sadness as the crowds have thinned. But they vow to stay as long as they can.

“No question about it, it’s gotten smaller,” said Tom. “But we can’t |forget.”

AFTER 9/11, LESSONS UNLEARNED

US-ATTACKS-9/11-ANNIVERSARY

by Elan Journo | September 11, 2014

Thirteen years have passed since jihadists rammed jetliners into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. Doubtless the images of the Twin Towers collapsing are indelible, and the toll in human life was achingly massive. In time, though, memory fades. By themselves, our impressions of the past are insufficient to guide our thinking and action. We need consciously to identify lessons from our experience.

What should we learn? Here are three crucial lessons, still unlearned.

Lesson #1: America’s selfless foreign policy encouraged Islamist aggression.

Writing days after the attacks, Leonard Peikoff explained that: “Fifty years of increasing American appeasement in the Mideast have led to fifty years of increasing contempt in the Muslim world for the U.S. The climax was September 11, 2001.” My talk, “The Road to 9/11,” looks at several episodes of pre-9/11 Islamist aggression and the self-effacing responses of the Carter, George H.W. Bush, and Clinton Administrations. Standing apart from conventional thinking, ARI advocates for a foreign policy guided by the moral ideal of rational egoism, a policy that resolutely protects the lives and freedom of Americans.

What does that look like? Peter Schwartz’s monograph, The Foreign Policy of Self-Interest: A Moral Ideal for America lays out what an egoist approach looks like in theory and practice (purchase Kindle ebook or paperback). My book, Winning the Unwinnable War: America’s Self-Crippled Response to Islamic Totalitarianism, analyses the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and applies Ayn Rand’s ethics to foreign policy, defining a path to victory against the enemy. (Read the introduction.)

Lesson #2. The enemy is not just Bin Laden, or Al Qaeda, but the Islamist movement.

“Know your enemy” is a necessary condition for figuring out how to defeat the threat. Tragically, neither before nor after 9/11 did American policymakers understand the enemy. It is hopelessly superficial to think of the enemy as “terrorists” (many groups use that tactic) or “haters” or “hijackers of a great religion,” or Al Qaeda, etc. Bin Laden has been dead three-plus years, and Al Qaeda has been damaged — but clearly the threat persists.

Scott Garrett to cosponsor bill that would provide continued health coverage and monetary compensation to rescue and recovery workers who were sickened at Ground Zero

Salute to a recruit to Zadroga Act 9/11 aid renewal
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Wednesday, May 13, 2015, 7:05 PM

An atta-boy to New Jersey Republican Rep. Scott Garrett for enlisting on Tuesday as a cosponsor of a bill that would provide continued health coverage and monetary compensation to rescue and recovery workers who were sickened at Ground Zero.

What with so much going on in Washington, Garrett had apparently overlooked the duty until that morning, when a reminder in this space noted that he was the only member of the New Jersey delegation without his name on the measure.

With Dan Donovan, sworn in that night to represent Staten Island and a nub of Brooklyn, Garrett joins budding GOP support for the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

Enacted in 2010 after entrenched Republican opposition, the law authorized spending $4.2 billion on specialized medical care for 9/11 responders, along with compensation. The sum was $3 billion short of the amount sought by Democrats and coverage was cut to five years.

Without congressional renewal, thousands of suffering Ground Zero laborers will lose critical health care assistance. In control of both the House and Senate, the Republicans will be crucial to preventing such a catastrophe.

That’s why having Garrett on board helps build momentum and why Donovan gets a thumbs-up for making co-sponsorship his very first legislative action.
