Thursday Rush Hour Commute Out of NY Penn Station Disrupted Over Signal Problems on Portal Bridge

New York NY, commuting nightmare hits NY Penn Station on Thursday evenings rush hour when authorities  temporarily suspended NJ Transit rail service to and from Penn Station in Manhattan, New York, New York, May 11 due to a signal issue at the Portal Bridge that spans the Hackensack River in Hudson County, New Jersey. Officials did not immediately provide an estimate as to when service would resume. NJ Transit authorities have said that NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJ Transit buses and the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) transit system at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, and 33rd Street, New York. Amtrak train services have also experienced delays due to “signal issues and rail congestion” in the New York metropolitan area.

Ridgewood NJ, Amtrak will cancel all long-distance trains beginning on Thursday to avoid disruptions in advance of a potential rail worker strike later this week. An Amtrak spokesperson said the changes will ensure trains can reach their destinations before the strike, which could begin as early as Friday, and the adjustments could soon extend to other routes. Amtrak is not involved in the contract negotiations between rail workers and freight companies, but many of its trains run on railroads owned by third parties that would shut down if a strike takes place.

Governor Hochul and Governor Murphy Announce Major Step Toward Modernization of Penn Station

New York NY, NY Penn Station has been the bane of commuters for as long as we can remember  . Since the original Penn Stations  destruction in the 1960s, the station has become something mythic, a sacrificial lamb to the cause of historic preservation. Unfortunately for commuters the current Penn Station leaves much to be desired it is and had been a dump for generations . New York Governor Kathy Hochul with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy are not the first politicians to step in and attempt to fix the current mess but hopefully the time is right and commuters could see some relief .

Newark NJ,  To protect NJ TRANSIT customers and employees, the hours of operation at Newark Penn Station will be modified overnight to allow for a daily deeper cleaning and disinfection. Starting Sunday, May 3 until further notice, NJ TRANSIT will close Newark Penn Station overnight from 11:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. The station will reopen daily at 4:30 a.m.

NEWARK NJ, A Newark man today admitted possessing heroin that was seized from him at Newark Penn Station, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Jeremy Lorenzo, 30, of Newark, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty to one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 200 grams of heroin.

Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT Continue Partnership with $31 Million Northeast Corridor Infrastructure Investment

Ridgewood NJ, Beginning June 17, 2019, NJ TRANSIT will be temporarily diverting select Midtown Direct rail service on the Montclair-Boonton Line and one North Jersey Coast Line train to Hoboken, in order to accommodate vital Amtrak repair work that will take two tracks at Penn Station New York (PSNY) out of service. Other temporary service adjustments will include Morris & Essex Line Midtown Direct trains no longer stopping at Newark Broad Street station during the morning and evening peak periods, and a limited number of Midtown Direct reverse-peak trains will operate from Hoboken. PORTAL NORTH BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MAKES HEADWAY

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT, with support from Amtrak, has completed an early action construction contract that included five major construction elements for the Portal North Bridge Replacement Program.  This contract broke ground in October 2017 and these construction elements were completed earlier this month – on time and on budget.

This NJ TRANSIT-sponsored and managed project was accomplished with the cooperation and support of the Gateway Program Development Corporation (GDC) and our Federal partners.  This milestone also demonstrates the ongoing commitment by the regional partner agencies to deliver a cost-effective program in a timely manner.

Governor Murphy Tours Hudson River Tunnel with Legislative Leadership and Congressional Delegation

WEEHAWKEN NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today toured the North River Tunnel with state legislative leadership and members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation. The 108 year old North River Tunnel has been in disrepair and in dire need of replacement since extensive damage was caused by Hurricane Sandy.

“The rehabilitation of the existing North River Tunnel and construction of the new Hudson Tunnel is crucial to the tri-state area, and in particular New Jersey,” Governor Phil Murphy said. “It is time for the Trump administration to prioritize the needs of commuters and our nation’s economy, and commit to funding the Gateway Program.”
