We already have a Ridgewood Performing Arts Center. We don’t need another.
About RPAC
RPAC opened its doors in the Fall of 2006. The school was started by Alexia Hess-Sheehan and Amy Armbruster to fill the need for a multi-disciplinary dance facility that was both professional in its approach and that was made up of some of the best dance teachers in the New York Tri-State area.
Our highly qualified and supportive teachers inspire and work with every student on the importance of proper technique, giving them a strong foundation from which they can pursue their individual goals in dance.
Ridgewood NJ, This will be the fifth summer that summer sessions will be held at Ridgewood Art Institute. Young artists enjoy working intensively for a week developing their work to a higher level.
“It is exciting to see the progress the young students make within one week. In my class, they paint from still life’s and from landscapes previously created en plein air. There is no better way to learn then from real life set up. The landscape sketches help them see colors used to create atmosphere in an outdoor scene. Eventually they can paint outdoors using the information that is given and will help them translate the complicated outdoors into an understanding of colors and reasoning behind the palette of the Ridgewood Art Institute”, says Laura Paray
Since there has been growing interest within the past years, Instructors Rebecca Leer and Joel Popadics have added drawing sessions and Diana Gibson an oil painting session. The combination of drawing and oil painting sessions works well together. The kids benefit from taking both of these sessions. As the medium is different the end result is the same – creating beautiful pieces of art in the traditional manner of painting and drawing.

After a decade of work in commercial design and advertising in New York City and Columbus, Ohio, Alban R. Albert turned his full attention to the area of fine arts. Born in Paramus, New Jersey and a graduate of the Mechanics and Tradesmen’s Institute (NY) with additional studies at Pratt, he enrolled at Ohio State University. In 1956, he graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in art education. He was also elected to Delta Phi Delta, the national art honorary, while at Ohio State. After years of teaching, in the mid-70’s he obtained his M.A. with a focus on ceramics from Montclair State College.
Albert was first introduced to oil painting in his youth by Otto Benz of North Haledon. He pursued the study further with Frank Vincent Dumond and Arthur F. Maynard of Ridgewood, N.J. Albert believes strongly in the principles of light and that is reflected heavily in his work. Albert served as president of The Ridgewood Art Institute in 1962 – 1964 and was also an instructor for eight years.
For a major part of Albert’s career, he was the head of the art department at Ramapo Regional High School. Starting as one of the original faculty members in 1956, he retired in 1985 after almost 30 years. In addition to teaching at Ramapo, he also served as an instructor in both the Adult Education Program (run at Ramapo) and the Ridgewood Art Institute. He ended his formal participation in the Ridgewood Art Institute in 1965, when he opened his own studio. He acquired the Old Wortendyke R.R. Station in Midland Park and, along with his partner, Janis Schlenz, started the Albert & Schlenz Studio Gallery. John P . Osborne, recently retired instructor and board member of the Ridgewood Art Association, would later become a student of Albert’s and a partner in the Albert & Schlenz Studio Gallery. Besides extensive teaching, Albert served frequently as judge, lecturer and demonstrator for various art groups in the NY-NJ metro area as well as Pennsylvania.
Albert has won numerous awards in local, county and state-wide exhibitions in his native New Jersey. In addition, his oil paintings have been accepted by juries in national shows under the aegis of the American Artists Association (Spring-field, MA) and of the American Artists Professional League. Diverse distinctions included the Landscape Prize in the 7th Regional Show of the Ridgewood Art Institute.
Albert’s works hang in private collections around the world and are especially prevalent in the northeastern United States.
Albert currently resides in Wyckoff, with his wife Sue.

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS
The walls of Ridgewood’s Village Hall are filled with artwork donated by residents, and the entire community is invited to celebrate.
The official launch of the Ridgewood Arts Council (RAC) and a ribbon-cutting celebration of the art installation of “Ridgewood Art at Village Hall” will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30.
“This is our flagship endeavor not only to put a stamp on the fact that the Ridgewood Arts Council is revived, but also to celebrate the breadth of artistic talent here in Ridgewood, past and present,” said Linda Bradley, the group’s chair.
Currently there are more than 80 pieces of fine art, photography and sculpture. It’s a permanent collection – artwork donated by Ridgewood residents and those with a Ridgewood connection. The collection of art started six months ago, and will continue to be accepted to cover the remaining areas at Village Hall.
“Mayor Aronsohn and I both campaigned with the promise to revive the Arts Council,” said Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli. “The purpose is to pull together the wealth of artistic endeavors in the village under one volunteer organization that would promote art and artistic education.”
Pucciarelli believes that art has a humanizing effect and that residents in the New York metropolitan area are fortunate to live in the midst of so much wonderful art of all kinds.
