Village of Ridgewood E-Notice

Happy New Year

January 14, 2017

Dear Friends at the Ridgewood blog ,

There are several projects and services I want to share with you…

Traffic Alert – Starting Monday, January 16th PSEG will be working on Broad Street to upgrade the service in Ridgewood.Construction activities include the installation of manholes and underground pipe. The work will be done from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondaythrough Friday for approximately 3 months, weather permitting.Paving will take place after the 3-month construction period.Police will monitor the traffic but please try to plan alternate routes in order to avoid the traffic congestion in the construction area.

2017 Annual Parking Permits – Annual Resident, Non-resident and CBD employee parking permits are available for purchase at Village Hall.Driver’s License and car registration are required to apply for all parking permits. The Annual Parking Permits for residents which are available, cost $750 annually, and it allows residents to park in the Chestnut, North Walnut, and Cottage parking lots.We have reached our current capacity for the $1,000 Premium Permits, but you may call the Receptionist at 201-670-5500 ext. 200 to put your name on a waiting list for these permits, as new commuter parking spaces become available.

New in 2017 – “Shopper/Diner” parking spots are available in the Hudson, Prospect and Chestnut Lots. These parking spaces are marked with white signs and arrows, and commuter parking will not be allowed in these parking spaces.

Leaves…Our annual leaf collection is finished and we ask that from this time forward, please do not put any leaves in the street. Branches, plants and leaves can be brought to the Recycling Center or placed in paper biodegradable bags. All yard waste must be brought to the recycling center or held until yard waste pickup begins in the spring. Please consult your 2017 calendar for spring pickup schedules.

Christmas trees are still being picked up on both the east and west side of the Village each week. Please place them on your curb, and not into the street.

Snow and Ice Reminder – When there is snow and ice forecast, please assist us by placing your garbage cans at the end of your driveway, by the curb, but not in the street. This will ensure that our employees are able to safely pick up your solid waste. Additionally please remember to clear your sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall. This is especially important on school walking routes, but is required in all residential zones.

In observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, Village Hall and The Stable offices will be closed on Monday, January 16th There will be no sanitation or recycling pick up on that day.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Heather A. Mailander
Acting Village Manager

Reader says the town recycled these Christmas trees and make into mulch?

Christmas Tree pick-ups.

Today on Fairfield Ave. between Glen and Meadowbrook, sanitation did their usual, take my garbage out of the can, proceed to throw the cover on the ground and let today’s beautiful snow fall into my now empty trash can.
While piling up garbage bags on the curb, sanitation proceeded to amass a pile of Christmas ( sorry.. Holiday) trees near the pile of garbage.
When the truck showed, they proceeded to combine both the garbage and trees into the hopper.

I thought the town recycled these trees and make into mulch? We have our own giant mulcher.

So, if these trees actually went to the dump, we have to pay more “tipping” fees to the dump.

Roberta….. what’s going on?? Is this a new rule?

RIDGEWOOD YMCA CHRISTMAS TREE LOT OPENS NOVEMBER 28

Proceeds from tree sales benefit the Ridgewood YMCA Good Works Programs.

Looking for the perfect tree this year? The Ridgewood YMCA’s annual Christmas Tree lot will open at 6pm on November 28 with a selection of Balsam and Fraser trees in sizes to fit any home.

All proceeds from tree sales benefit the Ridgewood YMCA Good Works Programs.

Through its Good Works Programs, the Ridgewood Y addresses community needs and strives to serve everyone, regardless of ability to pay.

“Buying a tree from the Y is a great way to make a difference in the community and get a wonderful tree at the same time”, says Gary Imhoff, Marketing and Membership Director at the Y.

The Christmas tree lot also sells wreaths, roping, and other holiday items.

Opening hours for the tree lot are Fridays from 6pm to 9pm, Saturdays from 9am to 9pm and Sundays from 10am to 5pm. The lot will remain open until December 21st.

The Ridgewood Y Christmas Tree lot is located at 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood, NJ.

The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Across the U.S., 2,687 Ys engage 21 million men, women and children – regardless of age, income or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors. Anchored in more than 10,000 communities, the Y has the long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise, but to deliver, lasting personal and social change.

Reader says Tough times indeed. To make things worse, the leadership in Ridgewood has failed us miserably

Tough times indeed. To make things worse, the leadership in Ridgewood has failed us miserably. We have a trio of individuals that banded together to seek office to advance their personal agendas. Our Mayor seeks higher political office, our Deputy Mayor wants to build up the central business district and their third wheel ran to cast her vote for the Valley expansion. As a majority, they have publicly stumbled their way to ousting political adversaries. The Richie matter was embarrassing at best and their handling of the Village Manager firing was even worse. They’ve been caught having secret meetings with developers in violation of the Sunshine laws and accepting $1,000 fundraiser tickets in violation of their own gift ordinances. All they while they have failed to provide even the most basic services. They are likely learning a difficult lesson at our expense right now. We have garbage piled on top of old Christmas trees in unplowed snow banks. We have municipal workers that have never been forced to do more with less like anyone who’s worked in the private sector since 2008. We have mounting expenses being funded by tax payers that are at their breaking point. Hopefully the residents will see these 3 for what they are – individuals pursuing their personal agendas – individuals that are not at all equipped to deal with the difficult task in front of them.
