Ridgewood NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Highway Traffic Safety (HTS) today announced the launch of enhanced enforcement efforts to deter impaired driving in New Jersey. Grant funding from HTS will support law enforcement agencies across the state in conducting patrols and sobriety checkpoints to remove alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers from the roads.

DUI Suspect in Custody After Five Vehicle Crash in Route 4 Paramus

Paramus NJ, the adult male driver of a black colored Mazda sedan was taken into custody for suspected DUI following a 5-vehicle crash on Route 4 westbound in Paramus shortly before 12 noon on Thursday, 03/14. The individual was handcuffed and placed in a Paramus police vehicle immediately after the administration of a field sobriety test. The heavily damaged Mazda and a white colored Volkswagen Atlas were both removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. The suspect is alleged to have struck the Volkswagen and three (3) other vehicles after he struck a guardrail just east of Spring Valley Road, Paramus and lost control of his vehicle. No injuries were reported by any drivers or passengers involved.

Ridgewood Police Report Accident With Both Drivers Driving Under the Influence

Ridgewood NJ, on August 19, 2023, Ridgewood Police Officers J. DiBenedetto and W. Malone located a vehicle on North Maple Ave that had been in a motor vehicle crash. An on scene investigation determined that the driver, a 34-year-old Ramsey resident had operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was placed under arrest. A second vehicle and its driver were also on scene at the time. The operator of that vehicle was also determined to have operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The 42-year-old male from Ridgewood was placed under arrest as well. Both drivers were later charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to Breath Test, and Allowing an Intoxicated Driver to Operate. The Ramsey driver was also issued summons for Failure to Maintain Lane, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Report.

The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Paramus Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert Guidetti.
