Ridgewood Police Report Accident With Both Drivers Driving Under the Influence

Ridgewood NJ, on August 19, 2023, Ridgewood Police Officers J. DiBenedetto and W. Malone located a vehicle on North Maple Ave that had been in a motor vehicle crash. An on scene investigation determined that the driver, a 34-year-old Ramsey resident had operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was placed under arrest. A second vehicle and its driver were also on scene at the time. The operator of that vehicle was also determined to have operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The 42-year-old male from Ridgewood was placed under arrest as well. Both drivers were later charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to Breath Test, and Allowing an Intoxicated Driver to Operate. The Ramsey driver was also issued summons for Failure to Maintain Lane, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Report.

Near Fatal Accident in Ridgewood Sends Driver to Valley Hospital

Ridgewood NJ, The adult male driver of a Jeep Cherokee involved in a two (2) vehicle, head on crash in front of 424 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood on Tuesday evening, 11/21, was in full cardiac arrest when patrol officers arrived at the crash scene. The victim’s seat belt was cut, he was placed on the ground after being removed from the vehicle, and officers immediately began performing CPR. The victim was transported by a Ridgewood EMS ambulance to The Valley Hospital where he was reported to be in grave condition. A tow truck removed the Cherokee from the crash scene. Ridgewood Fire Department personnel also responded to the incident. A Heroin overdose is the suspected cause of the crash.

Runaway Van Crashes on North Maple Ave in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, An employee of a Cliffside Park based construction company was seriously injured on Wednesday evening, 11/11, after he unsuccessfully attempted to stop a runaway van and was struck after he jumped into the driver’s seat and then fell out of the moving vehicle. The incident occurred in front of 472 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood at approximately 5:15 PM. The victim had been part of a crew performing maintenance/repair work on the home of noted author Harlan Coben. An ambulance transported the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center with the assistance of a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital. The van was removed from the scene by a tow truck. Ridgewood Police are conducting an investigation. It is not know whether Mr. Coben, or his wife Anne Armstrong-Coben, were at home when the incident occurred.
