Reader says its looks like Roy Cho was ducking New York Taxes by using Manalapan as his domicile

Manalapan is not in Bergen County. But you are correct, there are plenty of other problems.
My specific problem is very unique. The article states he used his Manalapan address for voting and taxes.

Roy Cho said that after he graduated from law school in 2009, he considered his parents’ home in Manalapan his primary residence even as he lived in an apartment in New York City and then rented an apartment in Hackensack. Cho used the Manalapan address for voting and taxes, and it was on his driver’s license, he said. https://www.northjersey.com/news/little-noticed-congressional-race-heats-up-with-accusation-of-voter-fraud-rare-campaign-help-1.1113943

Does that mean he filed a tax return using a NJ address and avoided paying NYC resident taxes? If you rent an apartment in NYC, even if Manalapan is your domicile, you are liable for NYC resident taxes.

Please before we get into the “young guy just made a mistake , he is a lawyer working for the Port Authority of New York New Jersey .

THE RECORD

Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan and Democratic challenger James Tedesco clashed over law enforcement, lawsuits and the future of Bergen Regional Medical Center in their final debate just two weeks before Election Day.

Before a capacity crowd of 150 people packed into the freeholder chambers in Hackensack, Tedesco, a Democratic freeholder, criticized Donovan for opposing a freeholder plan to combine the Sheriff’s Office and the County Police into one mega-department under the command of the sheriff.

“If the County Executive is so bent on shared services, why aren’t we realigning the County Police and the Sheriff’s Department?” he asked. “She wants it her way or no way. She wants Donovan’s army.”

Donovan, a Rutherford Republican seeking a second four-year term, argued that it makes no sense to put an elected sheriff in charge of a police department.

“Never put a politician in charge of a police department,” she said, drawing a murmur from a large group of sheriff’s officers in the crowd. “The sheriff, no disrespect, but he’s a politician, as am I, as is Freeholder Tedesco.”

Tedesco claims that the Democrats’ plan to meld the forces would save taxpayers $90 million to $200 million during the next 25 years through attrition as higher-paid County Police officers retired and were not replaced.

Cho campaign continues to fumble Voter Registration and “Carpetbagger” Claims

Ridgewood NJ, Rep Garrett continued to question Roy Cho’s ties to the district . Garret told the Record  “Most people don’t know who he is or what he stands for, and that’s because he just moved here,”, pointing to the 63 percent of voters who said they had no opinion of Cho.https://www.northjersey.com/news/little-noticed-congressional-race-heats-up-with-accusation-of-voter-fraud-rare-campaign-help-1.1113943

Cho’s campaign has be mostly been made up of the typical Democrat endorsements , and his pro Obama, pro continuation of the presidents policies . Readers have even dubbed him an”Obamabot”.  Most of his website is used to attack Scott Garrett and misrepresent Garrett’s record ,with little to no substantive discussion on issues .This  Amounts to the same old ,the government knows whats best and is going to save you. Policies let call it Obamnomics, that after 6 years of President Obama resulted in a failing economy, loss of healthcare , weakness in foreign policy , enormous government debt directly impacting the Millennial’s ,who Cho claims to be helping with higher taxes, a weak job market , massive debt , no healthcare and a bleak future .

According to a recent Rasumessen Poll 65% of likely voters  thought the county was going in the wrong direction. ( https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/right_direction_or_wrong_track )

Derek Roseman, Cho’s campaign spokesman, told the Bergen Record  Cho decided in April 2013 that he wanted to settle in Hackensack and that he changed his license and other documents to that address. Cho also filed his statement of candidacy in April 2013.https://www.northjersey.com/news/little-noticed-congressional-race-heats-up-with-accusation-of-voter-fraud-rare-campaign-help-1.1113943

“I’m not a carpetbagger, despite the fact that these claims are coming from Congressman Garrett,” Cho said in Paramus. “The reality is I failed to change my voter registration in a timely enough fashion, like millions of other Americans have failed to do.”https://www.northjersey.com/news/little-noticed-congressional-race-heats-up-with-accusation-of-voter-fraud-rare-campaign-help-1.1113943

Garrett Spokeswomen Maggie Seidel countered that by saying he failed to change his registration in a timely fashion, Cho was admitting he broke the law. she continued “Also, millions of Americans who make this mistake aren’t corporate lawyers who are running for Congress,” she said.https://www.northjersey.com/news/little-noticed-congressional-race-heats-up-with-accusation-of-voter-fraud-rare-campaign-help-1.1113943

“Roy Cho should take some time to get his story straight about his voter fraud,” Garrett’s spokeswoman, Maggie Seidel, said in an email to The Record. https://www.northjersey.com/news/little-noticed-congressional-race-heats-up-with-accusation-of-voter-fraud-rare-campaign-help-1.1113943

The ugly truth about Cory Booker, New Jersey’s golden boy

The ugly truth about Cory Booker, New Jersey’s golden boy

It’s eight o’clock on a Sunday night in Jersey City, and for the first time this October it’s cold enough to see your breath in front of you with a deep exhale of the Hudson River air. It’s curious, given that, to see a group of a few dozen residents and visitors from neighboring towns assembled in a parking lot next to the train station—while the New York Giants are playing, no less. The workout-gear-clad mayor, Steven Fulop, is hopping up and down with his arms crossed over his chest for warmth, asking me when I think “he” will arrive. (Nuzzi/The Daily Beast)

N.J. Democratic congressional candidate Roy Cho’s voting record raises residency questions

TRENTON — Roy Cho, the Democratic candidate who’s presenting a tough challenge to Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett, says he moved into the congressional district in the summer of 2012.

But records show he cast a vote from Manalapan, 52 miles to the south, in November, 2012 — more than two months after his campaign said he moved to Hackensack, in the 5th Congressional District.

“Roy Cho says he moved to Hackensack in the summer of 2012. So why then did he vote in Manalapan in November 2012?” said Garrett spokeswoman Maggie Seidel. “Either Roy Cho is lying about his residency in the Fifth District or he’s acted illegally by committing voter fraud — or both.”

The records, provided by Garrett’s campaign, show Cho registered to vote in Hackensack in April of 2013 and began voting in the city’s May 2013 municipal elections.

Cho’s 2012 vote in Manalapan, where he grew up and his parents live, was his first vote in New Jersey since 2009. Between 2010 and 2012, the 33-year-old Cho lived in New York City, where he worked as a corporate lawyer. All of his previous votes were made in Manalapan as well.

Under New Jersey law, it’s a second degree crime to cast ballots that are “known by the person to be materially false, fictitious or fraudulent.” A Middlesex County judge, Spencer Robbins, resigned in March after he was charged withvoting twice in Woodbridge while living in Chatham.

THE RECORD

Kathleen Donovan has held a variety of public jobs over the last 30 years, including public defender, assemblywoman, county clerk, Port Authority commissioner. Now, as Bergen County executive, she is seeking a second term.

While many people have helped her along the way, Donovan, a Republican from Rutherford, said she’s never really had anyone she would consider a mentor in politics.

That’s probably because in most cases she was the first woman to hold the job, Donovan said.

“Generally, you look to another woman, and there just weren’t any,” she said recently during an interview. “You had to figure it out yourself.”

Donovan was the first woman to represent the South Bergen legislative district 36. When she became county clerk in 1988, she was the first female constitutional officer in the state’s history. She was the first woman to chair the Port Authority commission, which she joined in 1994. In November 2010, she became the first woman elected Bergen County Executive.

In speeches, she sometimes reminds her audience that her mother was born at a time when women did not have the right to vote. In light of that,  she considers it a “huge honor” that she has been elected several times and is part of government.

Donovan had a say in crafting the job she now holds. She was part of a charter commission that designed the county executive form of government approved by voters in 1985.

She was one of about 40 people who ran for the nonpartisan charter study commission.

Time to Get to Know Rep Scott Garrett
October 19,2014
the Staff the Ridgewood blog

Since most of New Jersey media only offers a one sided caricature of Scott Garret and refuses to cover Scott. We decided it was time to get to know Scott though a short Bio and a few highlights of what he has been doing in Washington.

Scott opposes President Obama’s “too big to fail”  policy and any expansion of it.

Scott has been at the forefront of  reforming the the banking industry always looking to balance consumer and corporate interests and decrease redundant expansive unnecessary regulation .

Scott has pushed the IRS to answer questions on targeting US citizens based on their first amendment rights .

Scott has been a very strong proponent of Religious freedom and a staunch supporter of Israel unlike his his opponent and most democrats .

Scott opposed the Present’s military plan on ISIS which has now proven to significantly lacking and some would say candidate Obama also did.

In 2006, Scott helped make the  Musconetcong river a part of the National Wild and Scenic River System.

Scott has continually pushed for more oversight , transparency and accountability from the Federal Reserve and government-sponsored enterprises known as GSE’s ( Freddie Mac , Fannie Mae )

Since his election to Congress in 2002, Scott has become a leading advocate of tax relief and pro-growth economic policies, earning him awards and accolades from a number of national taxpayer and small business groups.

As a senior member of the House Budget Committee, Scott is on the frontline of efforts to rein in runaway government spending and shrink our country’s ballooning national debt.

A member of the House Financial Services Committee since his election to Congress , Scott has been at the forefront of public policy deliberations dealing with issues related to the financial services industry. Over the years Scoot has developed a considerable expertise in areas ranging from securities and finance to insurance and regulatory oversight, un like many of his critics .

At the beginning of the 112th Congress, Scott was selected to serve as the Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Market and Government-Sponsored Enterprises.  In this role, Scott presides over the subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  In addition, the subcommittee also handles all matters related to capital markets activities such as business capital formation and venture capital, as well as derivative instruments.

As founder and Chairman of the Congressional Constitution Caucus, Scott is highly respected among his House colleagues as an authority on constitutional issues.  Founded in 2005, the Constitution Caucus provides an effective forum for education on constitutional principles and discussion on the appropriate limitations of congressional action.

Another Media Event : Garrett Criticized over Sandy Response

Another Media Event : Garrett Criticized  over Sandy Response
October 3,2014
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Here they go again , less  than a month after getting spanked with the silly “fake bridge-gate scandal ” . New Jersey’s mainstream media groups are back at it again looking to demonize Republican Scott Garrett  over a pro-ported embellished  flier on Garrets work on Sandy relief..

Yes Garret Voted against “Sandy Relief” just like he voted No over Katrina relief. The Heritage Foundation noted that “While Hurricane Sandy was a major disaster, the majority of the funds originally requested by the Obama Administration and in the subsequent Senate passed Sandy bill were to be spent beyond FY 2014.  Furthermore, far too much of the funding goes toward superfluous programs that are not related to Hurricane Sandy relief, from repairs to the Smithsonian Institution to upgrades to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration airplanes to more funding for the federal government’s epic educational failure known as Head Start, among myriad other extraneous items.  The inclusion of $16 billion in wasteful community development funds is also concerning, especially because the Department of Housing and Urban Development estimated it would need a comparatively much smaller $5.2 billion for its “unmet needs.”  These non-emergency measures prove how irresponsible Washington has grown, unabashedly using a natural disaster to spend more taxpayer money.

This legislation not only contains glaringly excessive spending, but it also feeds into Congress’s problem of failing to budget responsibly. ” https://heritageaction.com/key-votes/no-on-supplemental-appropriations-for-disaster-assistance-2/

On top of the pork barrel  nature of the “Sandy Aid”  worse  yet has been the distribution of funds in New Jersey  which the Record not surprisingly failed to mention  that since the “Sandy Aid ” has passed even Jersey City’s Democratic mayor called New Jersey’s allocation of federal disaster relief a “disaster,” and said the state “has a poor track record” of working with local municipalities. https://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2014/04/fulop_tells_congress_njs_distribution_of_sandy_aid_is_a_disaster.html

“The distribution of federal Sandy relief aid was arguably not entirely based upon non objective data, slow to be forthcoming, unresponsive to homeowners and business,” Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said. “In a word, the distribution of the aid was in and of itself a ‘disaster’ of our own making.”https://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2014/04/fulop_tells_congress_njs_distribution_of_sandy_aid_is_a_disaster.html

Some people take their fiduciary responsibility very serious  Garrett said in April,  “Our fiscal situation is dire.  Each of our children and grandchildren are on the hook for nearly $56,000 of our $17.5 trillion dollar debt.  It’s time for us to put an end to the overspending and borrowing of more and more money each year.  Today, the House Budget Committee puts forth a budget that recognizes that the status quo is unacceptable and unsustainable.  Rather than continuing on the road to debt and decline, we instead offer a path forward that focuses on economic growth, expands opportunity, and restores fairness.  Years of foolish overspending have brought us to this point, but America’s current economic path is no laughing matter.”

Some people even politicians care about their Kids and the future and Scott Garrett is one of them . In April  Garret issued the following statement , “Our fiscal situation is dire.

Meanwhile Garret helped out with the Post Sandy clean up even taking time to hand out Turkeys for Thanksgiving at Lowe’s in Paramus . In Ridgewood Our Lady of Mount Carmel church  made a massive effort to reach out to the community offering food and shelter with little or no help from “sandy aid” .

The funny thing is now the New Jersey “media”like the Bergen Record or NJ .Com , the Star ledger and a few others , organizations that never covers Scott Garret, never attend his press briefings , never reports or bills or policy debates in Washington hosted by Garret , suddenly are experts on everything Scott Garret was up to during the post Sandy cleanup ?  We seem to have heard all this before

So this all begs the question , What was Investment Banker Roy Cho , doing in the aftermath or hurricane Sandy

Reader says Booker turned out to be an enormous disappointment

Booker turned out to be an enormous disappointment. He signaled an end to the third-world politics of Newark’s Sharpe James. He’s now moved on to bigger things having left behind a city that has worse stats than the ones he railed against in his campaign against James. The man has accomplished absolutely NOTHING, but in this bizarre alternate universe we now live in called image politics, he’s being touted as a future President. After all, why not? The current President’s accomplishments were equally as empty and the media all but refused to do their required due diligence.

Cory Booker has an unusual personality, self-confidence, is hard to throw off his game, the camera just plain likes him, and the vast bulk of the major media reliably purrs like a kitten when he glances in its direction. Other than that we’re talking about a true cipher. An astonishing absence of true accomplishment, or deep or long-lasting relationships with ‘real people’ who are relatable and reliable and are willing to personally vouch for him. He has a shocking willingness to make up and perpetuate blatant myths and other tall tales and vignettes designed to rev up the warm and fuzzy factor in otherwise inattentive voters. He also seems to be riding somewhat of a wave of quasi-approval or anything-goes type of public attitude regarding non-traditional lifestyles, one or more of which he may or may not be leading on any given day, depending on what insinuation his PR people may believe is most politically advantageous for him. The Senator is a witches’ brew of quirks and strange traits that nobody can seem to quite pin down, figure out, or persuade enough additional people to believe or even think clearly about, at least not in time to make him pay at the ballot box.

Bell the fiscally responsible choice for Senate

Bell the fiscally responsible choice for Senate

Voters who want more redistribution of wealth, more taxation and government spending, and the encouragement of more government programs that drain regular working people, the middle class and small business owners have their choice, Cory Booker. Those who want to stop the redistribution of wealth, want less taxation, less government spending, fewer government programs that drain the middle class, working people, and small businesses have their choice, Jeff Bell.

Mr. Booker failed as Newark mayor; that’s why Newark is financially broke according to recent news reports; the high crime rate is unacceptable. NJ needs a populist, not a cunning politician like Booker.

Mr. Bell has rightfully called out the Federal Reserve, a private entity, which controls interest rates, the printing of monies (money supply), and inflation — yielding tremendous power over the American economy and its people, impacting on Americans’ savings and life earnings.

Bell’s economic plan calls for an end to Federal Reserve policies that devalue the dollar and lower the standard of living for hard-working Americans. He’s taking on powerful interests on behalf of regular working people and small business owners.

The economic recovery is weak. The Federal Reserve’s printing of more monies that devalue the dollar weakens the people’s standard of living. Bell’s call to return to the gold standard ensures currency back up for the issuance of greenbacks. Current Fed policies only aid and abet Congress in its unending government spending spree causing $17 billion plus in national debt.

Feds probe Watershed Authority actions under Cory Booker

Federal prosecutors have launched a probe into the Newark Watershed Authority for actions it took while chaired by the city’s then-mayor Cory Booker, sources said.

The inquiry centers on alleged misappropriation of taxpayer funds first uncovered by the New Jersey Comptroller’s Office and a local watchdog group.

While Booker — who is now a US senator — served as the agency’s ex-officio chairman between 2007 and 2012, his former law firm, Trenk, DiPasquale, Webster, raked in $1 million in legal fees. Elnardo Webster, Booker’s 2006 campaign treasurer, served as the authority’s general counsel.

The Post previously reported that the law firm paid Booker $700,000 — even after he became mayor. Booker claims the payments were part of a “separation agreement” for work done before he was elected.

Booker’s campaign spokeswoman said he “had nothing to do with the business the firm conducted with the Watershed, nor did he have a hand in their getting a contract there.”

About Jeff Bell

Jeff Bell has worked at the highest levels of American politics and public policy for over forty years. In 1978, at age 34, he became the New Jersey Republican Party nominee for U.S. Senate when he defeated four-term incumbent Clifford Case. As the first major candidate to win on the theme of tax cuts, he produced television ads for Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign using the same message. He later worked as an advocate for the bipartisan Tax Reform Act of 1986 with Jack Kemp and Bill Bradley, the man who defeated him in the 1978 general election.

A graduate of Columbia University, Jeff went on to serve in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he was an intelligence advisor to the South Vietnamese infantry during the Tet offensive. Upon returning home, he joined the national presidential campaign staff of Richard Nixon in 1968 and later went to work for Ronald Reagan in 1974. He developed Governor Reagan’s first proposals for federal tax and spending reduction when Reagan ran for president in 1976. During the 1980 campaign, Jeff was elected from New Jersey as a Reagan delegate to the Republican national convention.

From 1988-2000, Jeff served as president of Lehrman Bell Mueller Cannon Inc., an economic forecasting and consulting firm. From 2000-2010, he was a principal of Capital City Partners, where he worked on promoting comprehensive immigration reform, the Bush Administration’s faith-based initiatives, and combating human trafficking, among other issues. In 2009, he was among the co-founders of the American Principles Project, a public policy organization dedicated to advancing conservative ideas derived from the principles of the American founding. As Policy Director, he headed its monetary reform initiative aimed at renewing sound money by restoring the dollar’s value in gold. He resigned from that position in February 2014 to run for U.S. Senate.

Jeff is the author of two books, The Case for Polarized Politics: Why America Needs Social Conservatism (2012), for which he was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and Rush Limbaugh, and Populism and Elitism: Politics in the Age of Equality (1992). He has served as a fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy Institute of Politics, visiting professor at the Eagleton Institute at Rutgers University, the DeWitt Wallace Fellow in Communications at the American Enterprise Institute, and as a board member of the American Conservative Union and Campaign Finance Institute. From 1978 to 1980, he served as the president of the Manhattan Institute.

Jeff and his wife Rosalie have been married since 1983 and have three sons and one daughter ranging in ages from 19 to 28 as well as a one-year-old granddaughter.

“And Thine Eye Shall Not Pity”

saint-cory-booker

Here are some powerful words from Cheryl Bass, who wrote to the New Jersey Jewish News:

“And Thine Eye Shall Not Pity”

It is time for the Jewish people to take a close look at Senator Cory Booker and realize that the upcoming election affords us an opportunity to end his political reign in office. He is looking to put through legislation called REDEEM – Record Expungement Designed to Enhance Employment.

Those who have been convicted of non-violent crimes would get a “second chance”; another program to come down the pike right behind other failed programs also espousing “second chances”. They are not second chances when they become multiple chances.

Opportunity has been given through many programs at great expense; and the results are abysmal.

The United States is only 5% of the world population, but we have 25% of the world’s prison population. The percentages work out that way because of the many criminals. Maybe the criminals should stop committing crimes.

What Cory Booker is looking to do with this REDEEM ACT is:
1) change criminal responsibility to 18 years of age
2) expunge or seal records of juveniles of non-violent crimes before they turn 15
3) place limits on solitary confinements of juveniles
4) petition court to seal criminal records. Sealing records keep them out of FBI background checks requested by employers.

Enough already. Cory Booker was Mayor of Newark for many years. He was re-elected to that position. Opportunity was his to bring down unemployment (unemployment is higher than ever), reduce the crime rate of Newark (double the national average), improve the educational system (whatever became of the millions from Facebook), and in general improve the entire city of Newark (population has left the city and blighted areas from the 1967 riots remain).

Booker has even looked to get bi-partisan support from Rand Paul of Kentucky. Kentucky has half the population of New Jersey; the crime rate is below the national average. Kentucky’s capital is Frankfort with a population of 25,527; Newark’s population is 10 times that at 277,140. With all due respect Senator Rand Paul (R- KY), find another issue to attach your name to.

Last month, in the Parsha, Shoftim we read, “…And Thine Eye Shall Not Pity”: if you keep excusing crimes and letting the criminals be exonerated for those crimes, then those criminals and others who closely are watching are only encouraged to commit bigger crimes.

As Jewish people we cannot condone, we cannot excuse, we cannot overlook.

Do not encourage criminals to commit worse.

Do not vote for Cory Booker. Cast your vote for his opponent, Jeff Bell.

Cheryl Bass,
Spotswood, NJ
