Ridgewood NJ, John Wohlberg is the Owner-Operator at JH Renovations, LLC in Ridgewood. John told the Ridgewood blog that , “he has been in business for over 20 years. My father was a Contractor now a site safety manager in NYC. Still working full time at 82. My Brother also a Contractor and a Licensed Building Inspector which has been a good information source for me throughout the years in terms of the Building Codes, various inspectors etc.”
John interestingly enough he also has a Real Estate License ( Referral Only) and a BA in Psychology. John went on to say he was an Art Major in High School and that’s been helpful in helping clients come up with designs.
John says,” I worked briefly at Keller Williams in Ridgewood but now have my License over at Alexander Andersen in Hackensack.”
John says , “My niche is an all in one saving clients the hassle of hiring a designer or in some cases, an architect. I guess somewhat of a DIY Contractor educating the client on the options”
We asked about his geographic area John concentrates on Ridgewood, Glen Rock , but have done work in every town in Bergen County. He generally will not travel outside Bergen County. According to John , “What tends to happen is we keep about 3 projects going at a time and taking on a project too far away can result in a local customer who doesn’t get taken care of properly so we learned early on not to bite off more then we can chew. Your reputation suffers and as a word of mouth business owner, that can be costly”
John says , “A lot of times what happens is that we will get a referral and will start off doing something small but once trust is built up, we end coming back to do something larger. We have a big database of repeat customers. We’ve gotten calls to paint a room and ended up staying for 3 or years off and on Renovating almost every room in the house. We try to be as user friendly as possible.”
He belongs to the Ridgewood Chamber, Hackensack Chamber and former member of the Glen Rock Chamber, Ridgewood Business Connections.
John says he understands the older home in Ridgewood, “I’m different from a builder as I deal with a lot of these old, Ridgewood homes. Most are built outta level and you have to be creative to try to make whatever room your renovation blend into the existing décor. You don’t want to go to modern and sacrifice an architectural integrity of the home.
John says , “the bottom line about my business, I love what I do but my body sometimes doesn’t , My tag line is “Building a Family of Satisfied Customers”. I try to live by that motto. ”
It’s not “weather” Ridgewood overcharged…they did. And that has been proven in a court of law. The real question is once the water company is bankrupt and sold off for pennies on the dollar how will the municapilaty continue to pad the payroll without the residual income of the now defunct utility had provided? Where will the cash come from to pay the mayors sons their salaries? How will we pay for all the booted pensions and absured salaries?
Glen Rock NJ, as previously reported on the Ridgewood blog , “The GRPD has been receiving a large amount of alcohol related juvenile calls this evening including large groups of juveniles causing disturbances around town. Please be advised that any juveniles caught in possession of alcohol can be charged on a juvenile delinquency complaint. We are advising parents who may be unaware of their children’s whereabouts to reach out to them.”
Glen Rock Police followed up , “Between approximately 8 PM and 9 PM a high volume of complaints were received about large groups of juveniles causing disturbances throughout the borough. While responding to a Sycamore Terrace resident’s complaint about juvenile trespassers, P.O. T.J. Graziani arrested a 16-year-old Glen Rock male for underage possession of alcohol. The juvenile was detained and turned over to the custody of his mother pending further action.
As the volume of complaints received exceeded the resources available to respond, Det. Jim Calaski sent out a message via the GRPD Facebook page advising parents who may be unaware of their children’s whereabouts or activities to reach out to them. In addition to 36 “likes”, parents apparently responded quickly as the call volume subsided and the presences of disorderly individuals around town subsided in a timely manner. ”
Glen Rock NJ, on Saturday night September 23rd, a band of drunken teens swarmed Glen Rock creating havoc and causing disturbances.
At 10:03pm Saturday night the Glen Rock Police posted this notice on Facebook :
The GRPD has been receiving a large amount of alcohol related juvenile calls this evening including large groups of juveniles causing disturbances around town. Please be advised that any juveniles caught in possession of alcohol can be charged on a juvenile delinquency complaint. We are advising parents who may be unaware of their children’s whereabouts to reach out to them. Thank you.
Go visit Glen Rock and compare driver behavior with what you see in Ridgewood. Ridgewood has a car culture problem and a road design problem. Almost all drivers in Glen Rock respect the pedestrian crossings. Few Ridgewood drivers stop for pedestrians in the crosswalks or those waiting to cross. Oddly enough, more drivers stop for me when I am walking my dog than when I am walking alone or with my wife. The same is true for kids. Too many drivers ignore children on their way to and from school, which is very dangerous, especially when students try to cross Linwood or Glen (other streets could just as well be added, but I am less familiar with the problems there).
The pedestrian crossings in Glen Rock are clearly marked (unlike Ridgewood’s). The main street in Glen Rock is also wider than Ridgewood Ave, with narrower sidewalks. The wider streets give drivers better visibility. That said, the attitudes of drivers in Ridgewood is very different than that in Glen Rock. We have a cultural difference between superficially similar towns.

Glen Rock NJ, according to Glen Rock Police a non profit organization called “Clean Water Action” an anti Trump , anti energy independence leftist activist group will be conducting neighborhood canvassing over the next few weeks. This organization is engaging in constitutionally protected political activity that neither the Police Department nor the Borough can prohibit. This is in no way an endorsement of the political views of this organization. Residents not wishing to speak with a representative of this organization must communicated that message with them directly. The organization has provided us with a list of individuals canvassing and will check in with us each day as to the area of town they will be in. Police will not respond to calls about unwanted soliciting regarding this group, however any unlawful activity or disputes should be directed to our attention.

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock native Olivia Cecoltan, a Moldovan-born New Jersey girl attending Bergen County Academies, noticed the differences between the lives of children in Moldova and the United States began. In Bergen County pizza dinners and Toys-R-Us trips are a common part of a child’s life, it is difficult to understand that there are many places worldwide where other children do not have basic necessities.
Unlike many Olivia decided yo do something about the plight of children and set up the Hand in Hand Project (HIHP) a not-for-profit organization committed to improving the lives of underprivileged children in Moldova.
Moldova is known as the poorest country in all of Europe, so you can imagine the struggles children endure there. Moldova is a nation sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine in Eastern Europe. The area was occupied by several tribes until it was officially under Roman rule. The medieval Principality of Moldavia was constantly invaded and taken over by various European powers; it was eventually part of Bessarabia and then part of Greater Romania until World War II. It became part of the Soviet Union until the Moldovan people declared independence in 1991. It is now known as the poorest country in Europe. The median income is about 4909 Moldovan Lei, or $249 US Dollars. The Moldovan median income is less than the average monetary value of gifts each American child receives each Christmas, or $271.00!
This summer, Hand in Hand Project held the “Hand in Hand Project Summer Camp” for children exposed to domestic violence at “Mary’s House” in Moldova! The also set up a crowd funding and raised $2000 to aid in their efforts .
The Hand in Hand Project is currently partnering with several organizations in Moldova, including the Orphanage of Straseni which currently serves 58 children from ages 7 to 16.With almost no publicity due to the country’s small size and little impact on the world, orphans in Moldova are in dire need of assistance.
Another goal of this project is to spread awareness of the cause that the Hand in Hand Project stands for among students, faculty, and staff at the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, NJ. In such a highly competitive school, in which it seems like getting a 4.0 GPA is the goal in life and anything lower makes a student a second-class citizen, many children need to take a step back and be more appreciative of the grand opportunities afforded them and the amazing lives they already lead by the age of 18.
