New Brunswick NJ, In early 2020, as COVID-19 began spreading through New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy issued Executive Order No. 103. This order closed many schools and businesses and implemented social distancing measures to protect the public health of the State. In the past year, New Jerseyans across all regions have experienced health and economic impacts of the global pandemic. This coming year will see efforts to mitigate the continued detrimental effects of COVID-19 through vaccination and other measures, such as economic recovery tools.

All Individuals Ages 16 and Older Will be Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccination on April 19 in New Jersey

Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today announced that all individuals ages 16 and older will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination on April 19 – two weeks ahead of the state’s initial target of May 1. New Jersey’s phased vaccination roll out has successfully administered 4.7 million doses of vaccine to essential frontline workers, educators, high-risk groups, and other eligible adults who live, work, or study in the state. With 1,796,798 adults already fully vaccinated, New Jersey is on track to meet Governor Murphy’s goal of fully vaccinating 4.7 million adults by June 30.

New Jersey Leads the Nation in the Spread of COVID 19

Trenton NJ, New Jersey’s autumn/winter surge peaked in early January and then leveled off briefly from February 19-February 26 before increasing again. Unlike many states, New Jersey’s daily incidence only declined 50%—from approximately 6,000 new cases per day** to 3,000—before rebounding. New Jersey is now reporting 3,980 new cases per day, higher than its first peak in April 2020, and increasing steadily.

Governor Phil Murphy Extends the Public Health Emergency Again !

Trenton NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 231. The Order extends the Public Health Emergency that was declared on March 9, 2020 through Executive Order No. 103, which was previously extended in 2020 on April 7, May 6, June 4, July 2, August 1, August 27, September 25, October 24, November 22, and December 21, and again in 2021 on January 19 and February 17. Under the Emergency Health Powers Act, a declared public health emergency expires after 30 days unless renewed.

Second Round of Applications for Library Construction Bond Act

Ridgewood NJ,  Governor Phil Murphy today announced the launch of the second round of grant solicitations for the Library Construction Bond Act (LCBA), allocating $37.5 million in grants. This allocation is subject to change pending grant agreements from the first round of grant solicitations. The LCBA, which authorized $125 million in state bonds, was passed by New Jersey voters in November 2017 to improve public library facilities across the state in order to ensure the well-being and success of New Jersey residents.

Ridgewood NJ,  Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 219, which increases indoor capacity limits from 25 percent to 35 percent for several businesses, including food and beverage establishments and entertainment and recreational businesses, effective Friday, February 5 at 8:00 a.m. The Executive Order also lifts the 10:00 p.m. curfew for in-person indoor restaurant service, however local officials may continue to regulate the hours of operation of indoor restaurant service and indoor operations of other non-essential businesses after 8:00 p.m., as they have been able to since November 12. The prohibition on seating at indoor bar areas remains in effect.

Murphy said at his COVID briefing that the state is simply following federal guidelines by including smokers in the vaccine rollout. The CDC states that smokers are high-risk if they contract the coronavirus.
