ObamaCare continues to make life more difficult for New Jersey families

100113healthcareap04

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever,” Jonathan Gruber, a professor at MIT and an architect of Obamacare

Rep.Scott Garrett :Time find solutions that will increase actually make health care more affordable and accessible for everyone.

“While we were promised affordable prices and increased competition with ObamaCare, we’ve only seen premium prices spike and insurance companies exit the unworkable exchanges. You’ve probably heard a number of news reports this week about the increased healthcare costs many people are facing as a result of this disastrous law. Unfortunately, New Jersey is no exception.

If you are one of the thousands of residents here in the Garden State expected to participate in ObamaCare open enrollment that starts this week, chances are you’ve been hit by massive sticker shock. You’ve probably also noticed that you’ve had less choice than you had in the past as only two insurance companies remain in New Jersey’s exchanges. It’s obvious that ObamaCare isn’t working for New Jersey’s families.

Supporters of ObamaCare told us that it would save the average family $2,500 a year on premiums.  Instead, we are finding out that premiums will increase by an average of 25 percent.  We were also told, “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”  Instead, at least 76,000 New Jerseyans are now forced to switch insurance providers.  And these families are quickly finding out that switching insurance providers is difficult. New plans may mean leaving the family doctor you’ve seen for years and interrupting ongoing medical treatment.

The Affordable Care Act is not affordable and it is forcing American families to make unwanted compromises about their healthcare.

New Jerseyans shouldn’t have to pay the price for ObamaCare’s broken promises.  That is why I will continue to fight to repeal ObamaCare and work in a bipartisan manner to find solutions that will increase actually make health care more affordable and accessible for everyone.”

Sincerely,

Scott Garrett

Gottheimer Tax, Favoring Washington Special Interests Not New Jersey Families

Joshua S

October 6,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  Garrett for Congress released a new ad today exposing Josh Gottheimer’s support for outrageous spending and taxes.

“It’s Josh Gottheimer’s tax – outrageous Washington spending. Gottheimer supports spending millions of your tax dollars on studies to determine if a bumblebee is hairier than a squirrel, to monitor shrimp on a treadmill, and like wine tasting parties in India. All at your expense. Even worse, reports show the Gottheimer tax raises your taxes by thousands. Josh Gottheimer.  Bad on spending and bad on taxes. Wrong for New Jersey.”

Josh Gottheimer has repeatedly touted his support for outrageous spending, like that contained in HR 2029, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016. In addition to this wasteful spending, which means higher taxes for Fifth District residents, Gottheimer’s “family member” Hillary Clinton’s tax rates are devastating for New Jersey families. Congressman Scott Garrett has consistently fought against wasteful spending, and has always advocated for lower taxes.

Here are just a few ridiculous spending items on which Josh Gottheimer wants to spend Fifth District tax dollars:

  • Daily Caller: Back To The Gym — Feds Pay For Shrimp To Hit The Treadmills Again! “Shrimp will once again run on a treadmill at taxpayers’ expense. A National Science Foundation funded-experiment that tested how sickness impaired shrimp mobility by putting the crustaceans on a treadmill made an uproar in the media and in Congress nearly five years ago. Yet the NSF has once again given tax dollars to the same researchers to put the would-be seafood on a cardiovascular workout regime.”
  • Sen. Jeff Flake: Government Studies That Will Leave You Scratching Your Head. Despite their size differences, a grey squirrel and a bumble bee both have about three million hairs. The researchers looked at microscope images to count the number and sizes of hairs of hundreds of animals.
  • Citizens Against Government Waste: India Wine Tasting. “[T]he report proposes eliminating the Market Access Program (MAP), which aims to help agricultural producers promote U.S. products overseas.  However, MAP is really a corporate welfare program that funnels millions of dollars to large, profitable corporations and trade associations that can well afford to pay for their own ads.  Eliminating MAP would save taxpayers $1 billion over five years.”

Under a Hillary Clinton/Josh Gottheimer tax plan, families will see tax increases no matter their income bracket.

New Jersey families welcome regulations of group homes for dementia patients

NOVEMBER 16, 2015    LAST UPDATED: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2015, 12:29 AM

Group homes for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia are expected to undergo more-rigorous scrutiny under a new law that was spurred by reports of patients wandering away or falling while unsupervised.

Under the measure signed by Governor Christie on Monday, such homes will be regulated as health care facilities by the State Department of Health, instead of as boarding homes under state housing officials. The homes, typically in residential neighborhoods, represent a relatively new niche in the elder-care market.

The law will take effect in June. One of the bill’s sponsors, Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, said the new provisions will allow families of dementia patients in group homes to have “peace of mind knowing they’re getting the best care possible.”

As of last December, 24 dementia-care group homes were operating in New Jersey. Such facilities typically employ nurses and aides to take care of patients, and advertise themselves as a more home-like alternative to nursing homes.

Group homes for dementia patients have been regulated by the state Department of Community Affairs, whose inspectors are trained to monitor building and safety issues. The law’s sponsors argued that the facilities should be treated more like nursing homes and subject to the same kinds of regulations and oversight, with reviews conducted by people with medical expertise.

Under the new law, each group home will be required to get a new license as a “dementia care home” through the Department of Health.

Garrett Votes to Help New Jersey Families Achieve Their Financial Goals

Scott_Garrett_took5_a_break_from_DC_theridgewood-blog

“How does the SEC expect average Americans to take the time to make thoughtful financial investments when the average annual report from public companies is a whopping 42,000 words long? Later today, the House will take up my bill to make SEC filings simpler and more useful for average Main Street investors. This will make it easier for everyone to reach their financial goals.” Rep. Scott Garrett

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05), Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, today voted for a number of bills before the Financial Services Committee to preserve the ability of American families to access credit and invest for their future:

“Around dinner tables throughout the country, middle and lower income American families discuss their retirement savings as they plan for the future. Unfortunately, many provisions of Dodd-Frank and proposed rules by the Obama Administration are putting more government, more red tape, and more bureaucracy between these people and their financial goals. Today our committee passed a number of bills—many with bipartisan support—to ensure that everyone can access credit, get good financial advice, and invest for retirement.”

The House Financial Services Committee passed the following bills today:

H.R. 414, the “Burdensome Data Collection Relief Act”
H.R. 957, the “Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection-Inspector General Reform Act of 2015”
H.R. 1090, the “Retail Investor Protection Act”
H.R. 1266, the “Financial Product Safety Commission Act of 2015”
H.R. 2769, the “Risk-Based Capital Study Act of 2015”
