The enhanced weekend schedule includes additional trains during the morning and afternoon/evening “peak” periods. Newark NJ, after completing a recent tour of duty, New Jersey Transit Police Officer Candia stowed his uniform and prepared to head home from District 2. Remaining alert, Candia visually scanned the concourse as he moved through Newark Penn Station. Candia spotted and immediately recognized a man who was wanted for domestic violence by Newark Police.
Newark NJ, during an evening patrol on January 19th, Officer Candia and Officer Hollis observed a seated subject who was smoking on the platform at Newark Penn Station. As the subject rose to accept a smoking summons, the officers observed a visible handgun magazine. Believing the subject to then be armed, the officers investigated further and found that the subject was illegally concealing a handgun receiver and narcotics. The subject was arrested.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is expanding its Student Pass fare option in a pilot program to include eligible part-time students. For the first time, beginning with February passes, in addition to full-time students, part-time degree-seeking students taking at least two courses will also be eligible for the Student Pass fare, which provides a 25-percent discount off the already discounted monthly pass at participating regional colleges and universities when purchased on the NJ TRANSIT mobile app. In addition, all students utilizing the Student Pass can save big during the spring semester thanks to the return of the “Buy 3 Months, Get 1 Month Free” Student Pass promotion. This cost-saving program is back by popular demand beginning with February passes for college students traveling to and from campuses for the Spring semester.
January 1, 2023 marked the 40th anniversary of NJ TRANSIT assuming control and management of the operations of New Jersey’s commuter rail network, previously operated by Conrail under contract to NJ TRANSIT and the State of New Jersey.
Ridgewood NJ, on Monday, January 2 (New Year’s Day observed), trains will operate on an enhanced weekend/major holiday schedule on all rail lines with additional trains operating during the morning and afternoon “peak” periods on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Gladstone and Port Jervis lines (the same schedule as followed on Martin Luther King Day and Presidents’ Day). Customers should use the printable schedule page at njtransit.com, check printed timetables, or use the “Station-to-Station Trip Planner” at njtransit.com and the mobile app for rail schedules – including trains in shaded columns, many of which operate this day.
Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, a driver unfamiliar with streets leading to and from the Ho-Ho-Kus train station area, made a wrong turn early Tuesday evening, 12/20, and wound up stuck on a pair of active NJ Transit railroad tracks. A towing company employee and NJ Transit Police ESU officers worked in unison to free the struck 4-door sedan, and remove it from the tracks. No injuries were reported in the incident, which delayed most trains scheduled to pass through the Ho-Ho-Kus station by over one (1) hour. Ho-Ho-Kus Police officers were also dispatched to the incident.

Jersey City NJ, a NJ Transit bus driver was arrested after allegedly shooting and critically injuring a teenager after an altercation in Jersey City on Saturday night. According to Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione the driver Charles Fieros, 48, of Staten Island, was “outside the bus when he retrieved an illegal handgun and shot at the group of males who had allegedly (attacked and) assaulted him,”. The weapon recovered by Jersey City police came back as stolen.
Videos circulating on the internet show the driver being attacked trampled and stamped on by a gang of teens in Jersey City .
Ridgewood NJ, in accordance with a new state law signed earlier this year, the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors today approved the start of the process to enact new regulations designed to strengthen protections for transit workers. The proposed regulations would establish a procedure by which NJ TRANSIT would be able to administratively suspend ridership privileges for individuals who assault transit employees while also creating due process for offenders to appeal proposed suspensions.
Englewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT has been awarded a $592,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to study equitable transit oriented development (TOD) along the proposed nine-mile extension of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) into Bergen County. The comprehensive plan will build on efforts to establish neighborhoods and employment centers along the corridor and provide a framework for coordinated actions, creating a blueprint for success for all stakeholders. The extension of the HBLR into Bergen County, known as the Northern Branch, will further NJ TRANSIT’s 10-Year Strategic Plan goals of powering a stronger and fairer economy and promoting a more sustainable future.
Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is prohibiting all beverages on its trains, light rail vehicles and buses on Saturday, December 10th to coincide with the SantaCon event in New York City and on Saturday, December 17th to coincide with the SantaCon event in Hoboken.
Ridgewood NJ , NJTRANSIT relaunched its Adopt-A-Station program with a new partnership with American Express. Community groups can “adopt” their local train station to maintain its character as a focal point of their neighborhood by planting flowers, performing light landscaping and maintenance and removing litter. As part of the program, NJ TRANSIT will provide community groups with supplies such as safety vests, gloves and trash bags thanks to the generous sponsorship from American Express. In addition, the community groups are recognized at the station through signage.
