Glen Rock Police Warns of Continued PSEG Scams

Glen Rock NJ, the Glen Rock Police Department reminds you that Public service, electric, gas and other utility scams continue to be reported to the GRPD. Please educate your friends and family. These cases are next to impossible to investigate and usually involve suspects outside the United States. Our best defence is helping others recognize the red flags and prevention. If in doubt, call the service company directly using a phone number off your bill or call the GRPD and ask us to take a look. These suspects use fear and pressure to try and demand you act without stopping to think a moment. If you feel uncomfortable, take a minute to check on what the person on the phone is telling you. This goes for anyone who comes to your home or business as well. High pressure tactics are designed to get people to act before thinking things through. Be safe.

Driver Hurt After Vehicle Strikes Utility Pole in Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, A truck driver sustained non life threatening injuries during a crash in which his vehicle struck a utility pole in the 500 block of Goffle Hill Road, Hawthorne, on Tuesday morning, 03/05. Hawthorne EMS was assisted with patient evaluation by a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A PSE&G Electric Division crew was requested to the scene due to the damaged pole and a broken guy wire. Wyckoff Police assisted Hawthorne Police with traffic control The wrecked truck was towed from the scene.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning More Common During Winter

Ridgewood NJ, Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), New Jersey’s largest utility, cautions that while carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a year-round threat, it is more common in cold weather when more fuel-burning appliances are in use. PSE&G urges customers to take extra preventative measures this winter to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, and maintain a heightened awareness of the symptoms.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood residents as well as near by towns should follow the recommendations from PSE&G to report outages. CALL THEIR NUMBERS! This insures your issue will get to the right place and be addressed by the proper authority, in the most timely manor. It will also provide you with confirmation/ tracking information.   Calling the Police , 911, DPW or Village Hall for power outages ties up our emergency phone lines and inundates us with calls for something we have no control over. This can also lead delays in our ability to respond to true emergencies, fires, accidents and other life threatening calls.   

  • PSE&G encourages customers to report downed wires and power outages by logging in to My Account on www.pseg.com, texting the word “OUT” to 4PSEG, or calling PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG.
  • The utility offers customers a number of ways to stay in touch and informed before, during and after a storm. These tools can be found at PSE&G’s mobile-friendly website www.pseg.com in the “Storm Center.” Updated every 15 minutes, PSE&G’s mobile-friendly “Outage Map” displays the location and status of power outages.

Two Victims Rushed to St Joe’s after Hitting a Building in Fair Lawn

Fair lawn NJ, Two (2) individuals were transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by separate ambulances following a Thursday afternoon, 01/17, crash on Plaza Road North near Brighton Place in Fair Lawn in which a 4-door passenger sedan left the roadway and crashed into a 2-family home. Damage to the structure was so extensive that a Borough of Fair Lawn building inspector declared it uninhabitable. Fair Lawn Police, Fair Lawn Fire Department, Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue, Fair Lawn EMS, Paterson Fire Department EMS, and a paramedic team from St. Joe’s all responded to the scene. The wrecked sedan was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. A representative from PSE&G’s Gas Division also responded to address a major gas leak caused by the crash.

Hawthorne Police Cruiser Involved in Collision on Diamond Bridge Avenue and Goffle Road

Hawthorne NJ, A two (2) vehicle Saturday afternoon, 12/01, crash involving a marked Hawthorne Police Department vehicle resulted in the drivers of both vehicles being transported to local hospitals by ambulances. The collision occurred at the intersection of Diamond Bridge Avenue and Goffle Road shortly before 2 PM and sent one (1) of the vehicles down an embankment into a section of the nearby Goffle Brook County Park. Hawthorne EMS and Hawthorne Fire Department also responded to the incident. Both wrecked vehicles were removed from the scene by flatbed tow trucks. Unofficial reports are that the injuries to both the police officer and other driver were non life threatening in nature. A utility pole was also damaged in the crash; a PSE&G was on the scene minutes after the impact evaluating its condition.

GLEN ROCK ANNUAL UTILITY POLE INSPECTION

Glen Rock NJ, PSE&G has hired a contractor (Osmose Utility Services, Inc.) to perform annual pole inspections for the 2018-2019 term. The purpose of the inspections is to help ensure the safety and reliability of the electric distribution system, extend the life-cycle of the poles, and reduce maintenance and replacement costs.

So Why Don’t We Bury Utility Lines ?

Ridgewood NJ, Each year, hurricanes, snowstorms, and an assortment of other weather events destroy above-ground utility poles. Heavy snow and ice can snap wires. More commonly, ferocious winds topple utility poles themselves, or uproot neighboring trees, which drag nearby wires down with them. In Ridgewood and much of Bergen County we have seen trees fall on power lines  causing outages . this morning  post on a tree falling in the Radburn section of Fair Lawn  taking out power to several homes is just the latest example . The Ridgewood Fire Department has recently sent out a memo urging resident to avoid fallen power lines .

Ridgewood Police closed portions of Franklin Turnpike after a Utility Pole Became Unstable

Ridgewood NJ, A utility pole became unstable on Wednesday morning, 09/26, as a result of excavation work associated with the construction of a new 7-11 store at 657 Franklin Turnpike, Ridgewood. Ridgewood Police closed portions of Franklin Turnpike, East Glen Avenue, and an entrance/exit ramp to Route 17 southbound until workers from PSE&G were able to replace/stabilize the pole. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Traffic Alert : East Ridgewood Avenue Paving Schedule

Ridgewood NJ, Traffic Alert: PSE&G has hired a contractor to restore the pavement on E. Ridgewood Avenue. They will begin milling E. Ridgewood Avenue, starting at Maple Avenue , and move east on Friday, August 24th for 4 days to be followed by paving. This work will be completed by Labor Day, weather permitting. To avoid possible traffic congestion in Paramus, this work schedule was amended to these new dates on 8/17/18.

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Fire Department was dispatched to stand by at the scene of a severed 2-inch, high pressure natural gas line on Monday afternoon, 07/02. The incident occurred at construction site on Braen Avenue near Sotnick Street, Hawthorne. No illnesses were reported and the leak was capped by PSE&G within one (1) hour of initial dispatch.

Fallen Tree Leaves Several Ridgewood Homes in the Dark

Ridgewood NJ, High winds caused a dead tree trunk to fall on a large grouping of primary electric wires and communications trunk cables at the intersection of Hillcrest Road and Norman Drive, Ridgewood on Monday morning, 06/25. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel responded to the incident. Several homes in the area were without electric power until it was restored by PSE&G. A PSE&G contracted tree service removed and disposed of the tree.

Driver Taken into Custody in Paramus after Sunday Morning Route 17 Crash

Paramus NJ The uninjured driver of a white colored, BMW, 4-door sedan with NY license plates was taken into custody by Paramus Police after his vehicle crashed head on into a utility pole on Route 17 northbound near Powers Drive, Paramus on Sunday morning, 06/24. The right travel lane and right hand shoulder were closed following the crash to facilitate repairs to the damaged utility pole and electric/communications cables. The wrecked BMW was removed from the scene by flatbed tow truck.
