Reader says It is The Garden State no more

clock

I grew up in Ridgewood during the 40s, 50s, and early 60s. Ridgewood is an entirely different town now. I feel sad about the changes. When my generation passes on, no one will be left who remembers what it was like. Some of the comments replying to this post clearly reflect what Ridgewood has become.
I think that entire part of the country has been ruined both by developers and by the ever expanding levels of government required to manage the tangled mess they create and leave behind.. There is no going back to the standards and values of a bygone era. My Dad used to say we lived there at the last good time. From what I have seen firsthand and from what I have read on this blog, I think he was right.
Those who can do so are leaving New Jersey; it is not hard to see why. It is The Garden State no more.

Reader dreams about the “good old days” in Ridgewood

16865179 10209676577885357 8117510701052179850 n

I can only fantasize how magnificent this place may have been in the 80s. I Imagine a beautiful, quiet village, super clean and orderly, where neighbors were cordial and friendly and people respected each other, where residents shopped in downtown and just shrugged off any 10 minute delay to find a parking spot, where residents greeted each other in the streets, when you could sometime forget the house or car door open at night and not being told by some genius that “if someone violates your property it is your fault”, when people were more concerned with their family well being than that of the world, when they elected politicians they really trusted, when local government was as frugal with costs as they were in their family, when kids in schools were taught science and math and not pulled into ugly politics of different colors and brainwashed with socialist ideas, when USA flag was the only visible flag and people were proud of it, when people moved here to live the Ridgewood village life and not try to bring the NYC way of life and try to impose it to everybody else, when giggling about someone’s way of life wasn’t a a crime etc etc. Those who lived here are welcome to tell me if and how wrong I am.

Visitor says Sorry High Property Taxes Definitely a Deterrent to Moving to Ridgewood

for sale Ridgewood_Real_Estate_theRodgewopodblog

file photo by Boyd Loving

I am Joseph , a Florida resident , who just returned from Ridgewood after seriously considering relocating to this gorgeous town. Since September 2017, I have visited Ridgewood twice with my family looking for homes in the area with the help of local realtors.
Although we found beautiful and affordable homes and have narrowed our choices down to three ,we were shocked to learn about the high property taxes , which are definitely a deterrent for us in order to finally proceed and make the move.
My wife and I are conscious and aware of the high quality of schools in the area and we are gladly and willing to pay for that and other services , but we found the level of taxation just too excessive at this time .
I understand that due to high taxation, the State of New Jersey is having more people leaving the State than the ones moving in.
I humbly suggest to reduce property taxes, increase the efficiency on State public spending and work out the State’s pension plan issue so potential out of state residents are lured to move into such a beautiful State and town.

Pictured a 1900s-era Parlor & courtship:
Like most things associated with Victorian life, there were extensive rules that had to be followed during courting. A chaperone, usually a female elder, was to be present in the parlor at all times when a gentleman caller was visiting. The dress forms in this room reflect what might have been worn at home to receive callers. Mother is wearing a bronze-colored silk taffeta skirt with a high-necked ecru gauze blouse. The young woman is dressed in a modest two-piece shadow striped cotton dress with a small train. — at Schoolhouse Museum.

Reader says Time to Fully Vet Ridgewood BOE Candidate

BOE

Let’s vet this guy. He may be nice but what is his position on default 2% increase? Is he going to ask Fishbein to plan next year’s budget with 1%, like Morgan wanted to do, or will he also assume 2% is given?
What’s his position on 90 Million bond issue?
What’s his position on “Who is the boss, BOE vs Fishbein”? Since his kids are in the school system, he is very likely to give in to Fishbein’s demands.

We really need someone who can challenge Fishbein and not let him continue to spend money without any checks and balances.

Ridgewood Shortline Park and Ride Customers : Route 495 Project

25255 373668491620 6504783 n

Dear Valued Customers:

I’m sure many of you have heard about the upcoming NJ DOT restoration project on the route 495 helix. As such, we would like to take the opportunity to advise you on the information we currently have, and give you some insight on what we’ll be doing to ensure that our service is impacted as minimally as possible. NJ DOT has not finalized a start date but all indications are that the work will commence in Mid July and could potentially go on for 2 years. The dedicated bus lane will remain active through the life of the project, but regular vehicular traffic will be reduced from 4 lanes to 3 in either direction.

Although the bus lane will be open in the morning, we do anticipate delays getting to the bus lane at the junction of the NJ Turnpike, Route 3 and 495. Based on information received from our partners at the Port Authority of NY and NJ, it’s anticipated that traffic going into the City in the afternoon will be the most impacted by the restoration project. The Port Authority additionally anticipates that westbound traffic on 495 will be minimally impacted throughout the course of the day.

In anticipation of delays and potential additional ridership we are committed to the following:
The safety of our customers and staff will not be compromised with these changes
Improved real time information to be shared amongst operators and customers
Pooling of Coach USA regional resources to provide additional support on high passenger volume and gridlock days
Close engagement with our public partners so we can provide valuable feedback and potentially improve service levels

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available. In the interim we encourage you to visit restorenj495.com for additional information and updates.
