Midland Park Postal Worker to do Time for Hit and Run Death in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, a Superior Court judge ruled on Friday that a Midland Park postal worker who twice fled a deadly hit-and-run accident in Ridgewood will serve 364 days in county lockup.

Rafael Ramos stood quietly in a Bergen County courtroom Friday after pleading guilty in  the 2018 roadway death of Edward Rao, a Ridgewood real estate agent.

Ramos, 48, claimed to police at the time that he drove “over something” on West Ridgewood Avenue , and returned to find the 54-year-old Rao lying in the street. Ramos spoke with police at the scene, but left again without mentioning his role in the collision. He was arrested a week later.

Homeless Living in Village Hall?

Ridgewood NJ, sources tell the Ridgewood blog the a homeless man has moved into the lobby at Village Hall creating a “Health hazard for people visiting town hall”. Reports of an extremely strong smell .

The Ridgewood blog has reported on many instances of homeless in Ridgewood in recent months.

The word seems to be that the police are concerned over law suits ,but many suspect an act of “virtue signaling “.

Ridgewood NJ, Law enforcement officials from the Village of Ridgewood will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs as part of the annual end of year “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” statewide campaign. Beginning December 6, 2019 and continuing through January 1, 2020, local and state law enforcement officials will conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.

Ridgewood Fire Department Extinguishes Car Blaze on Ridgewood Avenue

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire Department extinguished a fully involved car fire in the 700 block of East Ridgewood Avenue on Friday afternoon, 11/22. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood EMS also responded. The crispy Toyota Camry was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. No injuries were reported; the driver was able to flee the burning vehicle unharmed.

Ridgewood Fire Responds to Clothes Dryer Fire on South Van Dien

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire Department executed a full platoon recall in connection with a residential structure fire located in the 200 block of South Van Dien Avenue late Wednesday afternoon, 11/13. No injuries were reported to either the home’s occupants or firefighters in the blaze, which reportedly originated in a clothes dryer and extended to a small portion of the structure. Ridgewood Police and Ridgewood Emergency Services personnel also responded to the incident.

Ridgewood Police Charge Handyman who Placed Surveillance Camera in Bedroom

Ridgewood NJ, according to Ridgewood Police a 44-year-old West Orange handyman faces charges after he placed a digital camera in the bedroom of a home he was working at.

Jose Lema was arrested Thursday following a three-week investigation by the Ridgewood Police Department following a report by a resident.

According to Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke , Lema “surreptitiously placed” a small, digital camera in the woman’s bedroom to view her bed.

Luthcke said, Lema was charged with burglary and criminal attempt to commit invasion of privacy.

Ridgewood Teen Hit with Fake I.D. Complaint

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Police report that on October 19th, Patrol units responded to 175 Franklin Avenue on a report of a male party attempting to purchase liquor with fraudulent identification. The business reported the actor was confronted within the liquor department, and he provided a fraudulent N.J. The driver’s License and then walked away leaving the identification. The patrol continued to investigate and identified the actor. A special complaint was issued charging the 18 yr. old male from Ridgewood, N.J. with possession of a fraudulent government document. The special complaint was served and a scheduled court appearance is pending.
