Ridgewood NJ, a Ridgewood Police officer was named as one of eight New Jersey police officers last year who failed random drug test, after a random testing policy was put in place across the state .
According to sources the tests uncovered law enforcement officers using drugs like marijuana, cocaine and the powerful prescription opioid painkiller oxycodone. The mandatory drug testing policy for all law enforcement officers was enacted in March by New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal .

Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire department, and Ridgewood EMS rushed to aid an injured worker who had fallen two (2) stories inside of a new home being constructed in the 300 block of North Monroe Street, Ridgewood on Monday morning, 01/21. The victim landed in the home’s basement and was removed by a cadre of firefighters via a window well. He was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital accompanied the patient in the ambulance.
As per Village Code 222-1, the use of power tools for commercial purposes is prohibited on holidays, and MLK Day is specified as one of those holidays.

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood police report that on January 1st, patrol units responded to a Godwin Avenue business on a report of a theft of services. Upon arrival patrol was advised a male and female actor fled from the restaurant without making payment for the services rendered. The amount of the theft was approximately $30. Patrol checked the area but could not locate the actors.
A dine and dash is a form of theft by fraud, in which a patron orders and consumes food and beverages from a restaurant or similar establishment with the intent not to pay. The act may involve the customer leaving the restaurant with the intent of evading payment, or, less commonly, of the patron eating the food and then stating that they do not have any money.

Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood police report that Ptl. Patrick Daly and Ptl. Kevin McKeon investigated a burglary and theft from a motor vehicle on January 3rd. Upon arrival the victim reported her unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours and property was stolen from within. The stolen items were valued at approximately $580.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police report that Patrol units responded to 223 North Van Dien Avenue on a report of a stolen vehicle on December 31st. Upon arrival, the victim reported he left his 2013 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot unsecured with the motor running and when he returned a short time later the vehicle missing. A stolen vehicle report was taken and the vehicle entered into N.C.I.C. as a stolen vehicle.

Ridgewood NJ, another victim of the recent mail drop box robberies in the Village , the “Village Hall Mail” drop box was taken out of service and removed. The iconic yellow drop box, formerly located at the rear entrance of Village Hall, was used by many to deposit checks for property tax payments, parking & traffic summonses, etc.
No official notice yet as to why, but most likely due to the increasing number of checks being stolen from US Postal Service drop boxes. The US Postal Service drop box located in the front of Village Hall was also taken out of service and removed.

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Ridgewood Police on December 27th, a representative from Ridgewood Baseball and Softball Association responded to Ridgewood Police headquarters to report criminal mischief damage was discovered to an equipment storage box located at Citizens field. The storage boxed was reported to have been vandalized by an unknown party. The incident was documented as a matter of record.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police report repercussions of Village of Ridgewood mail drop box thefts :
On December 30th, Det. Douglas Henky responded to the Ridgewood Post Office to investigate a report of criminal mischief and theft from a USPS mailbox. Upon arrival the mailbox was discovered to have been forced open and mail was removed from within. A Postal Supervisor was on scene and recovered the remaining pieces of mail from inside. The U.S. Postal Police were notified of the incident.
On December 31st, two additional USPS mailboxes were discovered to have been forced open on Cottage Place. Patrol units and the Ridgewood Detective Bureau responded to investigate. The mail recovered within was turned over to the Ridgewood Postal Supervisor and the Postal Inspectors were notified.
On January 2nd, an Amsterdam Avenue resident responded to Ridgewood Police headquarters to report a fraud and theft in the past. The victim reported multiple personal checks were discovered altered and fraudulently cashed by persons not intended. The mailed items were believed to have been stolen from a USPS mailbox within the Village.

Hillsdale NJ, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of JUAN FERNANDEZ (DOB: 3/28/1996; single; unemployed/student) of 1302 Marsh Cove Court, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, on a charge of Aggravated Assault and ALEX Z. GREEN (DOB: 06/03/1996; single; unemployed/student) of 15 Goodwin Terrace, Westwood, NJ, on a charge of Hindering Apprehension. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
On Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at approximately 12:51 a.m., the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hillsdale Police Department received information that a victim was assaulted outside a bar/restaurant in Hillsdale and had suffered a severe head injury. The investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted by Juan FERNANDEZ, who subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Alex Z. GREEN. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition and remains hospitalized at this time.
As a result of the investigation, Alex Z. GREEN was arrested on January 2, 2019, in Westwood and charged with one count of Hindering Apprehension, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3A(1), a 3rd degree crime. GREEN is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on January 16, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.
Juan FERNANDEZ was arrested on January 4, 2019 in Paramus and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(1), a 2nd degree crime. FERNANDEZ is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on January 23, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.
Acting Prosecutor Calo states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Hillsdale and Ridgewood Police Departments for their assistance in this investigation.

ZERO POLICE OR anyone but commuters waiting for a bus
walking up to make a train .

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Fire department personnel were dispatched to assist in mitigating a hazardous condition caused by high winds at a construction site in the rear of 54 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood on Tuesday afternoon, 01/01. The fire department’s 95 foot tower ladder was deployed with two (2) firefighters on board who removed two (2) pieces of metal that had become dislodged from a roof area. One (1) of those pieces was hanging over an adjacent sidewalk. No injuries were reported in the incident. Ridgewood Police provided traffic control while firefighters worked.

Theft From Mailboxes :
The Ridgewood Police department and the U.S. Postal Police are currently investigating unlawful mailbox entries in Ridgewood’s central business district. These thefts have also occurred in surrounding towns, the Ridgewood Police Department is advising anyone who may have placed mail in mailboxes in the Central business District from 12/30/18- 12/31/18 to check with the intended recipients of the mail as the items may not have been successfully delivered. Affected parties should also monitor their credit reports and bank accounts for any suspicious activities. If you determine you are a victim of a crime, please report it to the Ridgewood Police Department immediately. If you have any information regarding these thefts please contact the Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau at 201- 251-4537.

Ridgewood NJ, Uniformed Ridgewood Police Patrol Officers and plainclothes detectives investigated at least two (2) additional forced entry burglaries to United States Postal Services drop boxes that were reported on Monday morning, 12/31. Two (2) of the burglaries were located on the same street; one (1) at the corner of East Ridgewood Avenue and Cottage Place, the other on Cottage Place in front of the Ridgewood Board of Education headquarters building. Mail left behind in both boxes was secured and removed for processing by a management representative of the Ridgewood Post Office.
