>The problem with Ridgewood Schools is that administration is not accountable

>The problem with Ridgewood Schools is that administration is not accountable.

There are one or two teachers in every school who should be teaching somewhere else. That is not the biggest problem facing the Ridgewood Schools.

The problem in this town is that administration is not accountable. They come up with programs and ideas that don’t always work. It takes them years to respond to their mistakes. Remember “writing to read”? Connected math will eventally be replaced with a better program, but it will be too late for many of the kids to catch up to where they should be. It is educational malpractice.

There was an article in the Ridgewood News about BF placing a suggested time limit on homework. That is not the solution. The problem is that kids leave class not understanding the work. In a normal math program they would have a text book to refer back to. Connected math does not have a text book and kids are left to Google their homework questions. The program is confusing and there is no book. That is the problem. Stressed out kids spending a lot of time trying to figure out the homework is just a symptom. I know of 6 kids in my daughter’s class who have gotten tutors this year(What would the number be if all of the parents had been asked about this?). This is an outrage! It is time to face up to the real problems in our math program. How many years does it take for the school to reevaluate and make the necessary changes??

>Burglary Spree Leaves Residents On Edge In Northern N.J.

MAHWAH, N.J. (CBS 2) — Residents were on edge in upscale areas of northern New Jersey and southern New York, as cunning burglars ransacked ritzy homes in an elaborate crime spree.
Police said the thieves were cutting phone lines, bypassing security systems and breaking down doors, even sneaking into bedrooms to get their hands on very pricy possessions, reports CBS 2′s Sean Hennessey.

Houman Firoozi was the latest victim. His bureau still had fingerprint dust on it after his home was ransacked Tuesday night. The thieves even went through his closet.

>Councilman Tom Riche explains the Council’s objections to the panels

Some writers to the Blog accept PSE&G’s incomplete defense of the solar panels being installed around the state and mocking those who oppose them as hypocritical, anti-“green,” or NIMBY. In fact, the issue is more complicated than that. PSE&G has not revealed the full story.

Tom Richie makes a pretty compelling case against the Solar Panel project in this link to a video of Mr. Riche’s interview on the subject on Fox & Friends.

Millions of sites hit with mass-injection cyberattack
By Sarah Jacobsson Purewal
April 1, 2011 10:37 AM

PC World – Hundreds of thousands — and possibly millions — of websites have been hit with a cyberattack that some are calling “one of the biggest mass-injection attacks we’ve ever seen.”

The attack was discovered on March 29 by security firm WebSense, and the injected domain was called lizamoon.com — thus, the name of the mass-injection is “LizaMoon.” According to WebSense, LizaMoon uses SQL Injection to add malicious script to compromised sites. While the first injected domain was lizamoon.com, additional URLs have since been injected in the attack (WebSense has a full list here).

Readers fault Tenure for decline in “Tradition of Excellence”

Do you trust the principals of our schools? Do you trust their judgment and knowledge of their teaching staff?

Like every manager in the private sector, they should be free to hire and fire the personal who work under them. Are their politics involved, you bet. But so what, that’s life. Teachers are not a special class that should be immune to judgment.

Get rid of tenure and put the responsibility for the performance of each school in the principals hands. If the school fails, we will know who to blame. Simple really.

Testing should be just one tool. Parents and students should evaluate teachers too. Just like any other field, put the customers first.

It is time to stop this silly game of protecting teachers with tenure. It is a dog eat dog world. Let teachers perform and deliver a quality product efficiently or bounce them out the door.

>Ridgewood Budget Details and State Teacher Salaries

>Ridgewood Budget Details and State Teacher Salaries

Laurie Goodman ,

A more detailed budget is available on the district website at this link:

https://board-of-education.ridgewood.schoolfusion.us/modules/locker/files/get_group_file.phtml?gid=944840&fid=10911951&sessionid=cc8a06deb138bc4f9c890c3a08bf5d2d

It does not contain ALL the individual lines you mention, but it does contain some of them, plus summaries for things like Total Kindergarten Teacher Salaries and Total Grade 1-5 Salaries, and quite a lot of other detail. The format and information in the budget, and the (confusing) way it’s organized/displayed, is dictated by the Dept. of Education.

Here’s a site to see NJ teacher salaries:

>Gasoline up 100% under Obama

>Gasoline up 100% under Obama
James S. Robbins

Feeling pain at the pump? Gas prices have doubled since Mr. Obama took office. According to the GasBuddy gasoline price tracking web site, the price of a gallon of regular gas was around $1.79 when Mr. Obama took office. Today the national average is $3.58. The lowest average price in the continental United States is $3.31 in Tulsa Oklahoma, the highest is $4.14 in Santa Barbara, CA. Four-dollar-a-gallon gas has arrived on average throughout California, and a number of other states are headed in that direction.

>Ridgewood Schools : What ever happened to the tradition of excellence ?

>First, finally the High School administration admits to the things that their students have been doing without for years. How many of you posters have had high school students? There are years that the students have been sharing books and accessories necessary for their education. To have complained would have been a troublemaker. Parents would look far and wide to find copies of text books so their student would not have to share in order to get work done in a timely fashion. Teachers never seemed to complain either as the books never appeared. The school has done without needed equipment in the sciences for years.

This being said with a budget the size of Ridgewood … there should be no NEEDS in the area of academic education. What is needed to educate to the EXCELLENCE our priorities should be set to ACADEMIC needs… and leave the extracurricular expenses to the participants.
