Out of Control Vehicle Hits Utility Pole and Pedestrian in Wyckoff

Wyckoff NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the investigation of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2020, near the intersection of Wyckoff Avenue and Newtown Road in Wyckoff, NJ. The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Wyckoff Police Department under the direction of Chief David Murphy.

On Saturday, August 1, 2020, at approximately 10:34 a.m., the Wyckoff Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a motor vehicle had struck a pedestrian and a utility pole. The Wyckoff Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, and the resulting investigation revealed that a juvenile attempted to turn from Newtown Road onto Wyckoff Avenue and lost control of his vehicle in an effort to avoid striking another vehicle. His vehicle then entered the sidewalk where it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 50-year-old female, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she is in stable condition. The juvenile cooperated with police and was issued motor vehicle summonses for Careless Driving, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-97, and Failure To Stop At a Stop Sign, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-144.
