Ridgewood NJ, according to the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell , Cyber Monday 2020 set a record for e-commerce spending in one day, totaling $10.8 billion. With the pandemic raging on, many customers took to online stores to do their holiday shopping. While NJ COVID-19 cases have declined in recent weeks and vaccinations continue, we can still expect many customers to choose to conduct their shopping online and potentially start shopping earlier than usual given concerns for supply chain issues and shipping delays. Adobe predicts that online shopping spending will total over $200 billion for the first time ever by the end of the holiday season. Given the volume of e-commerce shopping, cybercriminals will continue their efforts to target online shoppers and marketplaces for financial gain. Therefore, it is vital to maintain awareness of the many cyber threats posed by these individuals and groups. Washington D.C., the administration of US President Joe Biden today announced the details of 2 policies covering more than 100 million workers in an effort to get more people in the US vaccinated against COVID-19. The first rule, issued by the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), applies to employers with 100 or more employees and requires them to ensure their workers are either fully vaccinated or undergo weekly testing for SARS-CoV-2, for which employers are not required to pay. The rule also requires employers to provide paid-time off for employees to get vaccinated and compel unvaccinated workers to wear a face mask while at work. Employers who willfully do not comply with the mandate could face fines of up to $14,000 per violation, with the possibility of multiple citations per business. The second rule, issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), requires all healthcare workers employed at facilities that participate in Medicaid and Medicare—approximately 76,000 facilities nationwide—be fully vaccinated, with no option for testing but allowances for medical and religious exemptions.

KENILWORTH NJ, Merck (NYSE: MRK), known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics today announced that the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has granted authorization in the United Kingdom (U.K.) for molnupiravir (MK-4482, EIDD-2801), the first oral antiviral medicine authorized for the treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults with a positive SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic test and who have at least one risk factor for developing severe illness. In the U.K., LAGEVRIO® (lah-GEV-ree-oh) is the planned trademark for molnupiravir; the trademark for molnupiravir in other countries has not been approved. Merck announced its application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of molnupiravir is under review and recently announced the European Medicines Agency has initiated a rolling review of the company’s Marketing Authorization Application. Merck is actively working to submit applications to other regulatory agencies around the world.

Ridgewood NJ, Seven teams from the RHS Applied Engineering Club recently competed in the finals of the 2021 Virtual STEAM Tank Challenge sponsored by the New Jersey School Boards Association and the U.S. Army. At the Virtual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, October 27, all seven teams were recognized for outstanding achievement with Solar Aqua Tech winning first place and a $2,500 prize in this prestigious competition.

Ridgewood NJ, on Thursday, November 11, the Ridgewood High School Department of Visual and Performing Arts will open the 59th season of the Maroon & White Music Recital and Art Exhibit Series with the first concert and exhibit of the 2021-22 school year. The first of six such events for this year, the opening concert will be held in the RHS Learning Commons beginning at 3:45PM, followed immediately by a reception and gallery opening in the Carroll Art Gallery. Admission is free and open to the public.
