Former Mahwah Councilman Charles Jandris Gets Probation for Child Porn

Mahwah NJ, a former Mahwah councilman Charles Jandris was sentenced to five years of probation over the illegal images authorities found on his computer. Jandris had faced a maximum of 10 years in prison, but after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography, reached a plea deal with no jail time in February due to the length of the case, and because authorities couldn’t access all the pictures on his hard drive after some were deleted, prosecutors said.

Ridgewood NJ, Due to the resignation of Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh, her unexpired 3-year term will be voted on at the November 2, 2021 General Election.  Candidate petitions are available in the Village Clerk’s Office, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   A minimum of 197 valid Nominating Petitions must be filed to secure a place on the ballot.  Each Petition must be signed by one registered voter of the Village of Ridgewood at the time the voter signs, and each voter may only sign one petition. Petitions must be filed in the Office of the Village Clerk before 4:00 P.M. on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Could Circle Create a U.S.-backed digital Currency

Ridgewood NJ, Circle has announced its intention to become a fully regulated bank. Its aim is to become a narrow bank that places all deposits on reserve at the central bank. If this were achieved, USDC would become a cryptocurrency fully backed by the Federal Reserve. Circle would profit off the interest that the Fed pays on bank reserves. Previous attempts by other companies to do narrow banking in the US have failed as the Fed doesn’t like the idea. Circle has yet to initiate the process of applying to be a bank.

Israel to become first in world to test oral COVID-19 vaccine

Israel  , Oravax is testing an oral vaccine in preclinical trials against Covid-19 variants. The vaccine is based on an oral delivery technology that can be used to administer several protein-based therapies that would otherwise be delivered by injection. It targets three structural proteins of the novel coronavirus and should be more resistant to variants. An oral vaccine would be easier to distribute, and people would be able to self-administer it at home. Oral medications tend to have fewer side effects.

An Acute lifeguard shortage has forced closure of the entire deep end at Graydon Pool in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, an acute  lifeguard shortage has forced closure of the entire deep end at Graydon Pool. Most lifeguards are high school or college students.  Some colleges have likely started orientation programs for new and returning students.  Graydon transitions to a 12 noon weekday opening beginning Monday, August 16.  The pool will be closed on August 24, and from August 30 through September 3, as per Village Manager Heather Mailander.
