Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Commuter Train in Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn NJ, Thursday evening Bergen County NJ Transit rail service is subject to up to 30-minute delays due to an earlier pedestrian fatality near Broadway-Fairlawn. NJ TRANSIT police responded to an incident involving the No. 66 train on the Port Jervis Line. The train struck an individual between the Broadway station and Morlot Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m. The train had originated from Middletown, NY, at 3:20 p.m. and was en route to Hoboken, scheduled to arrive at 5:13 p.m. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the approximately 100 passengers and crew on board. In response to the incident, service was temporarily suspended in both directions between Ridgewood and Plauderville. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes were being cross-honored by the agency’s buses and private carriers.

Hackensack NJ, the Crow’s Nest, a family-owned restaurant and pub that has been a fixture of Hackensack’s dining scene for nearly a century, is closing its doors. Andreas and Angela Hajiyerou, who have been the proprietors of this enduring 400-seat restaurant and catering venue for the past 31 years, have made the decision to sell the property and will permanently close the establishment on October 24th.

Barnes & Noble in Paramus Will open its doors on Black Friday

Paramus NJ, Barnes & Noble in Paramus has announced the official opening date for its new location. The bookstore will open its doors on Black Friday, November 24th, at 634 Route 17 North. This reopening comes eight months after the closure of its former location, which had been in operation for 30 years. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. will be attended by Joseph Simmons, also known as DJ Run from Run-DMC, and Harlan Coben, an author and Ridgewood resident. Janine Flanigan, the chain’s senior director of store planning & design, confirmed the date and mentioned that the new one-story space, spanning 35,000 square feet, will be comparable to the previous two-story building located just a mile to the north on Route 17.

Long Beach Island NJ, A new analysis by Save Long Beach Island, Inc. shows that New Jersey electric bill payers and taxpayers will bear heavy costs for offshore wind projects, notably a 30, 40, and 50% increase in residential, commercial, and industrial electric bills respectively for the full 11,000 megawatt program. Islamic Jihad Rocket Kills Hundreds at Gaza Hospital

Gaza City , as thousands of rockets fired by terrorists in Gaza fell on Israeli population centers, at least one fell short , hitting a hospital in Gaza City. As many as 1 in 4 such rockets routinely fall within the Gaza strip, and last night’s projectile, fired by the Islamic Jihad terror group, struck the hospital and killed hundreds of civilians. US officials said yesterday a Tuesday explosion at a Gaza hospital was likely caused by a rocket launched from the nearby area. Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, has claimed an Israeli airstrike hit the building that housed hundreds of civilians at the time. The Gaza Health Ministry said at least 471 people had died.

Mahwah Boy Scout Leads Restoration of Abandoned Slave Cemetery

Mahwah NJ, The Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission expressed its gratitude to Mahwah Boy Scout Peter Kaya Gretchikha from Troop 50 for his dedicated efforts in restoring the abandoned Slave Cemetery. Recognizing the historical significance of this site, Kaya Gretchikha emphasized the importance of acknowledging Mahwah’s history, particularly the existence of slaves in the area. He hoped that his project would raise awareness about Mahwah’s past, shedding light on a lesser-known aspect of the community’s history. Peter’s project involved coordinating a team of over 14 volunteers and investing more than 70 hours of work in trimming overgrown brush, removing branches, and repairing sections of the deteriorating rock wall surrounding the cemetery. The commission expressed its gratitude for his valuable contribution to preserving this essential part of Mahwah’s history and extended their best wishes for his continued success as he works toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
