Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Board of Education met on Friday, June 30, 2023. The meeting was supposed to be an endorsement of the current vendor AlphaBest for Before/After Care Program. Proponents Hyunju Kwak and Sheila Brogan failed to make their case and the board did not approve the current vendor.
Questions have now arisen over the fairness of the process with accusations of favoritism toward the current vendor . Several vendors have complained that the Request for proposal (RFP) failed to disclose some of the elements the Evaluation Committee used for scoring the bids and the June 30th meeting seemed to confirm that .
“Agreement for Before/After Care Program The Ridgewood Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent of Schools, approves the agreement with AlphaBest for the provision of Before and After School Child Care Services, dated July 1, 2023, in the following amount: Guaranteed revenue of $150,000 for the period of July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024. This bid award is the result of the 6-member Evaluation Committee scoring .”
Critics also felt the Ridgewood School Board appeared to be attempting to sneak in an approval without much input from parents and administrators . Summers have historically seen far too many attempts to jam down the throats of the Ridgewood Taxpayers with all kinds of crazy concepts ,like selling Benjamin Franklin’s Track to Valley Hospital , while residents were away over the summer .

Just another reason why Kwak and Brogan must go!
Kwak is fine.
Sheila is the trouble maker here. She is on every committee (even where she’s not appointed to), and influences the bad decisions.
The decision to renew the current vendor was the result of a committee that included parents and staff and BOE members. I fail to see how this was being snuck in or how it was not done fairly. I think what is unfair is the time and effort people on a committee spent only to be discounted. And we wonder why volunteers are hard to find.
Just another reason why this current Board of Education is so disfunctional.
