Reader says The sharing economy is here to stay no matter what anyone says

Marco Rubio Speech On Innovation At Uber's DC Offices

The sharing economy is here to stay no matter what anyone says. Our kids will take self-drive uber cars to work and play, and stay at Air BnB shared accommodations on business trips and holidays. The fact that Ridgewood isn’t a destination probably means it never takes off here anyway, but luddites rule in NJ and Ridgewood. Tesla’s online sales model was banned because it messes with car dealers, uber is a threat to cabbies, and Air BnB threatens hotels. Why aren’t we asking what is wrong with the conventional wisdom on these issues instead of the immediate reaction to block change?

  1. Ha Ha…
Here’s the model used by those who are wrong… and know it.
    .
    1) I Disagree with you but can’t win with facts so I will call you names (luddite) in an attempt to diminish you.
    2) I back up my position with unrelated non sequiturs (Uber, Tesla’s online sales model)

    Not working.

  2. Not everything needs to suit the buyer. If I’m to live next door to a mini-hotel, I want my property taxes reduced.

  3. Maybe I should set by my basement toilet as a public pay toilet. Sharing economy, mmmmkay?

  4. Okay 11:41… how about this… ignorant affluent white people in suburbia? Bitter bigots? Limousine liberals? Your call… just waiting for the crime stats resulting from those undesirables that have the temerity to rent a room at a house in town to visit the area while working on a project, attending events at the RWood CC, etc……

  5. Sharing economy my ass. I find the ones who push this whole sharing economy thing are leftists, who at the same time complain about the rich not paying their fair share in taxes. These very same sharers in my experience do not declare their income from running their Airbnb.

So what I I wanted to get in on this sharing economy and run a little grocery store from my house? How about a day care center? Sounds pretty bad, right? What’s the difference between these examples and running a mini hotel in the form of an Airbnb?

  6. 7:25, again with the not declaring income from AirBnB rentals…. please check your facts before you post https://www.airbnb.ae/help/topic/247/how-taxes-work

  7. 725… its more generational than ideological but its always easy to blame it on the left when you’re devoid of facts… bottom line is the state will step in, towns will adjust by licensing, taxation and limits… as our council tends to be ahead of the curve I think this will incrementally change over the next few months…. for the better

  8. 7:16 …
    .
“its always easy to blame it on the left”
    “the state will step in”
    .
this pretty much proves it is the left.
    .

  9. sure 1246…good for you.. the state is stepping in because 500+ municipalities having differeing primary laws makes no sense. The state govt sets the ground rules and municipalities tweak them… so if its leftist it beats the equivalent of a legal Yugoslavia…

  10. 3:58 – now you are just speaking jibberish….

  11. equating the sharing economy with political ideology isnt jibberish?
