the staff of the Ridgewood blog
The Ridgewood Board of Education convened on Monday evening for a final assessment of the annual school budget, culminating in its approval.
After generations of resident participation Ridgewood voters gave up their option of voting on the proposed school budget after heavy lobbying of the teachers union, League of Women Voters and several Facebook groups.
Dr. Mark Schwarz, Superintendent of Schools and Julie Kot, Business Administrator/Board Secretary presented the final district budget for the 2024-2025 school year.
The approved budget stands at $138,506,402, with a significant portion—59%—earmarked for staff salaries. Beyond sustaining existing programs, the budget earmarks funding for the introduction of several new courses. Among the additions are offerings in Cybersecurity, AP African American Studies, American Sign Language III, and Fashion Design II, reflecting a commitment to diversifying the educational curriculum and meeting the evolving needs of students.
Noteworthy is the inclusion of a 2.0% tax levy increase compared to the previous year.

I’m really hoping they not only expand the current yoga class offerings at the high school but include classes on power napping and meditation as well.
Thanks Ms Winograd
Shame!
“after heavenly lobbying” ??

We’re paying more in the form of taxes, but getting less.
College placement is one of the most objective measures of how well our district is educating its students (and what we, as taxpayers, are “buying” for our money). Here is the data:

Tenalfly High School (which is similar to Ridgewood socioeconomically) gets arguably better performance (and at a lower tax rate):

Naturally, there are many factors at play here. The data say that we’re not doing a great job of getting our kids into the top universities… shame!
Uh..watch the news lately???
The absolute last place I want my child is at any of the above.
Let them indoctrinate your children and take a couple hundred grand of your cash. They’re not getting mine.
If your children are so easily malleable that sending them off to college is a forced indoctrination sentence, then you probably are too. In which case, you should probably start questioning everything you believe as well.
Say what you want about the schools…my kids are all on Wall Street making well into the six figures. All products of the Ridgewood school system. Sometimes one must look in the mirror…
You could cut the budget by 15% and our kids would still thrive. That is of course you are a parent who doesn’t expect much from your kids and blame somebody else for their outcome.
May 15th and yet Ridgewood Board of Ed goes thru another BA!! Not even there a year and she’s out!! Did she leave on her own?? Was she asked to leave?? Was she fired?? Apparently she couldn’t hack it or she made some big mistakes!! The hits just keep coming!! Is this controlled chaos or is this the blame game continuing??
