Ridgewood NJ, parking “safety zones” are designed to make parallel parking easier & quicker (see accompanying photos). Mayor Paul Vagianos takes issue with their placement and wants them removed.

Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke warned him that traffic accidents on East Ridgewood Avenue would likely increase. Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser warned him that the receipt of federal aid could be jeopardized.

Yet, regardless of what he heard his professional staff say during Wednesday night’s Village Council meeting, Mayor Paul Vagianos, backed only by Councilman Evan Weitz, insisted that he be provided with background information to facilitate his effort in removing “safety zones” from most, if not all, parking spaces within the Village’s Central Business District. Doing this, or so he claims, would create a significant number of additional on-street parking spots.

Seemingly, Mayor Vagianos still subscribes to the convoluted belief that more parking, and only more parking, would solve the woes of every business in Ridgewood.

If our mayor has his way, make sure you automobile insurance is paid up before driving through downtown Ridgewood. And be prepared to pony up more tax money to make up for the lost federal aid.

By the way Mr. Mayor & Councilman Weitz; Hackensack, Ramsey, and Westwood all have these “safety zones” in place.

  1. The majority of Council members expressed no desire to investigate this issue further, but he demanded it be investigated anyway. Is this a dictatorship now?

    1. As he walked away from the council, he was seen shaking his head and saying, “It’s Greek to me…..”

  2. Why more parking we have the disgusting garage

    14
  3. There must be one in front of his restaurant.

    1. THIS.

  4. A huge parking garage with 260 plus parking spaces and a 9 million plus cost and he wants more.

  5. The garage is 1 block from his restaurant. Too far for his patrons to walk? Jeez!

  6. He’s losing it just 1 month into his dictatorship.

  7. Whine, whine, whine.

  8. Can we get someone to mark a 50 foot yellow line at the southeastern corner of Walthery Ave and Linwood Ave? Neighbor parks all the way up to the stop sign on Walthey causing cars to be in the middle of the road. Cars turning off Linwood onto Walthery almost have head-ons with the cars that are forced to be in the center of Walthery. This happens every day..

    1. Blog is not the venue for this issue, which you can pursue.

  9. He has Napoleon Complex, he needs every inch he can take.

  10. What a selfish slimy man

  11. No shame

  12. Isn’t this the clown that had the illegal wall on town property in front of his restaurant that impeded automobiles from opening the passenger doors?

    19
    1. Yes. Same clown.

  13. Making parallel parking even more difficult will actually drive some people away.

As stated during the council election campaign, Mr. Vagianos should recuse himself from any and all issues directly or indirectly related to downtown businesses. Since those issues will always come up and be important, he should not be on the council at all.

If we had political cartoonists (if we still had newspapers!), his unrepentant self-promoting money-grubbing behavior would be prime fodder.

  14. Maybe he can be the police commander.

  15. “Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke warned him that traffic accidents on East Ridgewood Avenue would likely increase. ”

Well, there goes your career down the shytter……………………….

  16. The
    Mayor.

  17. No. We need the safety zones. Why is this “mayor” wasting time/money/energy into this irrelevant matter? Seems Biden-esque to me. Is there not a gigantic parking garage for patrons now who may need parking?

  18. I have a feeling that if you tell the mayor what to do. You’re done.

  19. So he wants more street parking and then wants to close the street for the stupid pedestrian mall? Oh, that’s so he can put his resturant tables all over the Avenue. Selfish weasel. He is disgusting.

  20. Hey, maybe they can turn the parking garage into some kind of eatery, food, trucks, food carts, etc. I bet you that will make money

  21. How about shut the whole Avenue down. Then they have to use the parking garage. make it look like Time Square.

  22. You people in Ridgewood voted for this man …….

    1. Not me and my family. I know what hides behind that always on fake smile. Unfortunately a few of my longtime neighbors voted him because he gave them a smile when they sat at his tables. If there is one feature that identifies our residents on masse is gullibility.

      1. Like they couldn’t have figured out from the mask shyte.

And then posing with that other lefty from Glen Rock.
