Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood native, Karate instructor at Ridgewood Karate Academy and undergraduate astronomy major Michael Capurso, died following an automobile accident on November 8th. He was 26.
Michael had been a member of the SUNY New Paltz campus community since enrolling in 2019. He was expected to graduate next May with a degree in astronomy.
An amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, Michael published many of his photos on social media, including some that he took from locations on the SUNY New Paltz campus.
In addition to his contributions at New Paltz, Michael was an Eagle Scout and an active member of the North Jersey Mineralogical Society.
A memorial service for Michael Capurso will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 722 E Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
In remembrance of Michael Capurso, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Very sad news, RIP Michael. He was a very positive influence on the RKA students.
Truly a gentlemen and class act. So much life packed into his 26 years. Those who knew him were better for it. Rest in Peace Michael. We will miss you forever.
