Ridgewood NJ , as previously reported on the Ridgewood blog on May 18, retired Fairview Police Chief and Run for Hope Foundation Founder Frank DelVecchio will embark on a 200-mile solo run across the State of New Jersey to fight hunger and food insecurity. DelVecchio will begin this multi-day venture at High Point State Park in Sussex County and make his way to New Jersey’s southernmost tip in Cape May.
Ridgewood resident Saurabh Dani commented on Facebook , “There are over 600,000 residents in NJ who have food insecurity. Every Tuesday the line to get food donations within Ridgewood is long. Right here, in our town. Frank DelVecchio of Ridgewood is running 200 miles from the north to south of NJ to raise awareness about food insecurity. While he runs 200 miles for the next three to four days, we can do our part by donating non-perishable food at a nearby food pantry. Ridgewood YMCA is one option if you are looking to donate. Lastly food pantries do not just accept food items. They also accept other non-perishable items like shampoo or baby products, as a dollar that doesn’t go towards these requirements can go towards nutritious food.”
UPDATE: (from Ramon M. Hache Sr. ) As of 9:00 a.m. (Saturday) morning, Frank DelVecchio has completed 112 miles of his journey as he makes his way down Route 206 to Cape May Point. Over the course of his run, the Run for Hope Foundation will partner with the Ridgewood YMCA from May 18-20th to host three Days of Action to Fight Hunger and Food Insecurity where non-perishable food items, paper goods, and baby supplies will be collected. The Run for Hope Foundation website will also be accepting monetary contributions to be distributed to local pantries and youth programs across New Jersey.
“The Ridgewood Y is proud to partner with the Run For Hope Foundation to raise funds and create awareness for food insecurity throughout New Jersey,” said Ramon Hache, Ridgewood YMCA President and CEO.
