Twp. of Washington NJ, a judge in Bergen County will determine the admissibility of statements made by a Washington Township man, Patrick Camilli, to the police following the 2021 fatal stabbing of Mary E. Huber in his home.

The incident, which occurred in October 2021, involved a morning call to the police, who found Camilli on top of Huber, having been repeatedly stabbed. Camilli, who also sustained self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck, was arrested on the same day at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he received treatment.

During a Nov. 6 hearing, Camilli’s attorney, Landry Belizaire, filed a motion to suppress his client’s statements to the police after the stabbing. Testimonies from two law enforcement officers, one from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the other from the Westwood Police Department, were presented as fact witnesses. The Prosecutor’s Office detective discussed his role in investigating Huber’s death and questioning Camilli, while the Westwood detective recounted statements made by Camilli to paramedics en route to the hospital. Judge James Sattely instructed the prosecutors and Belizaire to coordinate schedules for the remaining witnesses before proceeding with the case.
