Fort Lee NJ, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey expects nearly 5.5 million travelers across its facilities this Memorial Day weekend. To accommodate motorists traveling between New York and New Jersey, all ongoing repairs and construction projects at its crossings will be suspended from 5 a.m. Friday, May 26, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 30. A separate travel advisory for any lane closures or service changes for the remainder of that week will be issued next week.

The agency anticipates nearly 2.1 million passengers will travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York-Stewart International airports from Friday through Tuesday, and encourages travelers to allow for additional travel time. Due to an expected increase in air travelers during the holiday, the Port Authority strongly encourages customers to pre-book parking or to use alternate transportation modes to the airports including mass transit, for-hire-vehicles and taxis as on-airport parking facilities at John F. KennedyNewark Liberty and LaGuardia airports may be unavailable or full for an extended period of time.

Based on recent travel trends, as many as 3.4 million vehicles are expected to cross the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels over the same holiday weekend period, similar to pre-pandemic 2019 actual traffic volumes.

All Airports:

  • Visit the Port Authority’s travel tips & information page  for help preparing for an upcoming trip by air, including how to check for parking availability or pre-book parking at the Port Authority’s airports.
  • With parking lots at all airports expected to be full, customers who have not pre-booked parking in advance are strongly encouraged to take mass transit or other means of transportation getting to the airport.
  • The Port Authority strongly encourages use of the MTA’s LaGuardia Link Q70, which is free year-round, for fast and efficient access to and from LaGuardia Airport via public transit (with connections to MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA New York City Transit subway lines 7, E, F, M and R).
