Tragedy at State Line Lookout: Brooklyn Woman Dies After Fall from Palisades Cliffs

Apline NJ, A Sunday evening search for a missing woman ended in heartbreak at the Palisades Interstate Parkway. On May 3, authorities confirmed that a 35-year-old Brooklyn woman passed away following a devastating fall at the State Line Lookout in Alpine, New Jersey.
A Desperate Search via Phone Tracking
The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when the woman’s husband contacted the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police. Unable to reach his wife, he utilized phone-tracking technology to locate her mobile device at the popular scenic overlook.
Upon arriving at the scene, the husband discovered his wife’s personal belongings near the cliff’s edge, prompting an immediate emergency response.
The Rescue Operation at Alpine Lookout
The recovery effort involved a massive coordination of local emergency services:

Drone Deployment: Fort Lee Police utilized a drone to scan the darkened cliffside.

Initial Contact: The drone successfully located the woman on a ledge partway down the cliff. At the time of discovery, she was alive and moving.

The Second Fall: Tragically, before rescuers could reach her position, the woman suffered an unwitnessed second fall, descending further toward the base of the cliff.
Emergency Response and Medical Efforts
The East Bergen Rappel Team and the Port Authority Police Emergency Service Unit launched a high-angle recovery operation. Once they reached the victim at the base, she was moved toward a medevac helicopter staged at the lookout.
Despite losing vital signs during transport, detectives and flight medics from Hackensack Meridian Health performed CPR for over an hour. While they briefly regained a pulse, she was later pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center.
