“I’ve read the article twice now and don’t detect any racism. Thoughtful and provocative, yes, which seems to be the problem for “progressives” and those who think they are, like some commentators here.
It’s great that young people are out protesting and showing solidarity with another group of people but I wonder how well informed they truly are and whether they and their parents (and some commentators here) are able to separate the basic, laudable idea that Black Lives Matter and the BLM organization/leadership, which has a distinctly socialist/radical streak which is much less acceptable to informed, mature adults. I suspect not.
As for the arrest, sorry, but in my 20 years in the village, I have found the Ridgewood PD to be a restrained, reasonable group and I do not have a problem with them attempting to keep the streets safe while many pedestrians and vehicular traffic are both present, with consequences for deliberate noncompliance. I note that the person arrested (or some companion) made sure to tag Governor Murphy and AG Grewal on their tweets about the arrest, suggesting that they deliberately attempted to provoke the police and make the news, as opposed to more mundane and less news worthy peaceful protesting.
Sorry for the length of this post, but intelligent, well reasoned discourse sometimes requires length. Finally, I’ll save some of you a little time: I don’t support Trump; never have, never will.

Divest from the police? Who are you going to call when someone is breaking into your house? Is it time for me to buy a gun?
A mortgage or even a car loan would get these kids straightened in a heartbeat.

This is sort of like Princeton University “kids”. They want police and security removed from campus, but at the same time, 22% (YES 22%) of former female students report that they have been sexually abused. And these are supposed to be “smart” kids. Law enforcement is an investment in the safety of the community.
Are these home grown idiots or are they professionals?
The black residents of Ridgewood are embarassed by these people….
In approximately 5 more months, there is going to be the biggest ever case of exploding heads when DT gets re-elected for another four years. We will then have another 4 years of “Russia-Russia-Russia”.
The unrest is the left stirring things up.
I wonder if the same group will try an even larger protest the day of Thria Bernabe’s court hearing on 7/23. The hearing will be broadcast on Zoom so they not have a courtroom to stir up.They might meet outside Village Hall. Time will tell.
I look forward to a little chaos. Let the keyboard warriors quake in their girlie boots.
