Ridgewood NJ, April 22 marks Earth Day, a celebration that raises awareness to protect Earth’s natural resources for today and future generations. Celebrated globally, achievements of environmental movements are acknowledged and honored.

On Sunday, April 21, from 11:00am to 2:30pm, The Conservancy for Ridgewood Public Lands and Green Ridgewood is hosting the annual 2024 Daffodil Festival & Earth Day Fair”. This year’s theme is “Remember the 3 B’sButterflies, Brooks & Batteries One of the highlights is the Daffy Dog Parade at 12:30pm where dogs and their owners can dress in costume.

Till Horkenbach, longtime Ridgewood resident and Realtor® Sales Associate at Keller Williams Village Square Realty will be present with his noticeable red tent, hosting fun activities, surprises and giveaways. A wildflower potting station will give children the opportunity to discover the importance of bees, butterflies and pollination. A grand nature scavenger hunt will also allow the children to use their senses to note the importance of Earth Day and sustaining our planet

“I am proud to support this important and fun event’, says Till. “Earth’s natural resources appear to be abundant, however, if you look closely you can find many tears in the fabric of today’s fragile natural environment. Raising awareness early in a child’s life is crucial, I think.”

Till himself takes recycling very seriously. Born and raised in Germany, he immigrated 30 years ago into the US. “I remember growing up abroad, how my parents taught me to recycle paper, batteries and various other products. We were able to recycle all kinds of different plastics to keep the waste down. Clear town plastic bags gave the recycling crew the ability to view the trash and to reject and leave behind any trash bag that contained recyclables. I wish we were able to implement this here as well. I am using disposable ‘green’ trash bags.”

Till admires the efforts of Ridgewood’s recycling center and how it has evolved. “But we can always do more”, he says. Participating in this fun event and being able to teach children the importance of “Earth Day” is priceless

Join us in support of today’s ecological and sustainable issues on Sunday, April 21 at Van Neste Square in Ridgewood!

  1. Environmentalist Michael Shellenberger says that it is better for the environment to put plastics in with regular garbage because then they go to a landfill. Recycled plastics are shipped abroad and too often wind up in the ocean.

    1. these nutjobs don’t know what they want.

    2. He is a journalist, not an environmentalist.
He has degrees in social studies and anthropology.
Giving your opinion about the environment does not make you an environmentalist. If this were true, I would be a psychiatrist based on my opinion of those who deny the evidence of climate change.

      1. What specifically about the environmentalist’s opinion do you find objectionable? Do you deny the claim that “recycled” plastics are shipped abroad and wind up in the ocean, etc. by countries with far less strict to virtually non-existent environmental regulations? Do you even know what happens to the plastics you recycle? Or do you just assume?

Where did Al Gore and Greta Thunberg get their degrees in Climatology? Probably the same college Bill Gates got his degree in Immunology. But since you like to play psychiatrist, I guess we can also assume you yourself a mentally disturbed, drug company flunky.

        1. These people don’t know what they want. They make grandiose proclamations (based on scant facts and dubious conclusions) and want to impose their desires on your behavior. Then after you are forced to change, they make NEW grandiose proclamations and want to force you to change again.
