A new taxpayer bailout to cover up ObamaCare’s failure?

obamacare_theridgewood blog

“On Thursday, the administration tried to calm insurers, sending them a written memo full of promises. Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services vowed to go to Congress for full funding to reimburse insurers for their losses.”

Look out taxpayers– you will be asked to pony up for plans with little accountability, nice stock options and generous executive compensation. The louder they whine, the more government largesse will be rained upon them. Alieta Eck, MD For Real Health Care Reform

A new taxpayer bailout to cover up ObamaCare’s failure?

By Betsy McCaughey

November 20, 2015 | 8:58pm

How dare the Obama administration bail out insurance companies with our money in order to hide ObamaCare’s failures. Thursday, just hours after giant insurer UnitedHealthcare said it’s losing money selling ObamaCare plans and will likely exit the health exchanges next year, the Obama administration quietly promised to bail out insurers for their losses — using your money.

Nearly all insurers are bleeding red ink trying to sell the unworkable plans. Without a bailout, more insurers will abandon ObamaCare, pushing it closer to its demise. A bailout would benefit insurers and the Democratic Party, which is desperate to cover up the health law’s failure. Ironically Democrats (including Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders) bad-mouth bank bailouts but are all for insurance-company bailouts. Truth is, it’s a ripoff for taxpayers, who shouldn’t have to pay for this sleazy coverup.

FACT CHECK: Actually Muslims Did Celebrate 9-11, According To NY Times

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop owes an apology to all 9/11 victims and should resign immediately!

NOVEMBER 24, 2015 BY CHARLES C. JOHNSON

Ben Carson and Donald Trump are under fire for comments that they saw Muslims celebrating 9-11.

The Washington Post’s fact checker claimed it never happened to which Donald Trump replied thusly:

Via @washingtonpost 9/18/01. I want an apology! Many people have tweeted that I am right! https://wapo.st/1R1siFz

The New York Times quotation is far more damning. Here it is, with our emphasis.

Within hours of the terror attacks, F.B.I. agents hurriedly intercepted telephone calls in which suspected associates of Al Qaeda in the United Stateswere overheard celebrating the attacks. In the following days, agents swept in and arrested them. (New York Times, October 28, 2001, Section 1B; Column 1; Metropolitan Desk; Pg. 2).

The Washington Post–the very same paper denying that anyone was celebrating the attacks–reported on September 16, 2011 that Palestinian authorities and the media were working together to stop people from seeing Palestinians celebrating the terrorist attacks. Here’s the relevant quote:

Palestinian officials have told local representatives of foreign news agencies and television stations on several occasions that their employees’ safety could be jeopardized if videotapes showing Palestinianscelebrating the attacks were aired.

Ridgewood NJ, Now that everyone knows it’s perfectly legal to place non-commercial signs basically any place you want to in Ridgewood, they’ll be popping up everywhere as evidenced by this “Ridgewood Thanksgiving Day Run” sign, one of several placed in flower pots within the Central Business District.

Thanks Paul A. and Paul V. for starting the unsightly trend.

Ridgewood Residents Get Their Chance to Speak out on the CBD Parking Garage Design

parking garage cbd

November 24,2015
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, According to Village Hall residents will have an opportunity to chime in on the parking garage design on December 2nd. The three designs presented included the original structure, as depicted on Villlage of Ridgewood (VOR) site, with 405 spaces (130,000sq ft), a modified version with 355 stalls (120,000sq ft) and the lowest profile version with 305 stalls (109,000 sq ft). The cost per stall decreases for each added level:

405 stalls @ $28,000 = 11.5 mil

355 stalls @ $29,300 = 10.4 mil

305 stalls @ $31,000 = 9.5 mil

You can see the higher you go the more efficient the project becomes IF, of course, those spaces are utilized.

As far as the design, it is exactly as shown at the informal meetings. The 355 version indicates a lower profile along Hudson St but retains the same height along Broad. The 305 version includes the lower profile on both Broad and Hudson. For some reason I didn’t include the heights in my notes but will ask Roberta for those details. Each version includes cantilevering over the entire Hudson St sidewalk with an additional 20″ cantilever extending over the street. The cantilevers were depicted in the original design and, I believe cannot be eliminated due to the lot width.

Also Mayor Aronsohn sent an email (personal email) to residents regarding the three garage designs and process moving forward. His letter indicates surprise ,surprise higher cost for each version likely based on factoring in the original $500,000 bond.

Village Hall Updates Status on Delay Ridgewood Leave Collection

November 23 – E Notice – Leaves by the Numbers

Dear Neighbor,

I just wanted to provide you with a status of where we are with leaves at this point in the season. As of last Friday, we collected 20,295 yards or 58% of the total yardage typically collected for the entire season. Compared to last year at this time, we have collected 6,300 yards or 18% more. This is directly related to the heavy dropping of leaves we had about 1 ½ weeks ago after the rain storm.

As a result of the above, it has been taking us a little longer (about two extra days) to finish up in an area and begin the next area. In previous communications, I have mentioned that we have had some operational issues with the new contractor we are using in Area B – although we are still monitoring him closely, he has picked up double the amount at this point in the season than last year’s contractor. Another interesting factoid is that Area B is responsible for about 35% of the total leaves that have been picked up this season.

Net-net this makes collection more cumbersome for the present time, but bodes well for the remainder of the season as the bulk of the leaves are down or have been collected; therefore the last weeks of collection should be easier. Please bear with us, as we do our best to clean up as much volume as possible before the Thanksgiving holiday. As a reminder, we will be doing a last go through after your final collection date, weather permitting. For residents who like to bag their leaves, free bags are still available for pick up at the Recycling Center.

On to another topic: violations of the leaf collection policy. As you know, we listened to you last year when you reported that your biggest issue was neighbors placing leaves out on the street outside of the permitted schedule. This is just not a safety issue and a violation of our ordinance but it is also a violation of NJ State regulations that mandate leaves cannot be put out more than 7 days prior to the scheduled collection date.

As a result, this season we started active compliance monitoring of the various areas. I think I mentioned in an earlier E-Notice that we saw a large number of violations the first weeks of the season supporting the views that you have been sharing with me. On my own block, I witnessed leaves being placed in the street two days after the collection period! We made a decision not to write summonses at that point but to issue warnings. This was also due to the fact that this violation required an in court appearance, a burden we did not want to place on our residents.

Now that we are almost through the second cycle of leaf collection, we are issuing summonses and there will unfortunately be many of them. The only fortunate news is that the Court Administrator successfully petitioned to remove the requirement for an in-court appearance.

Ridgewood is a very leafy town – we collect between 32,000-35,000 yards of leaves across 95 miles of roads – a real challenge when coupled with the vagaries of weather. I would like to continue to hear your input on enforcement as well as any other suggestions that you may have for better service. Some of you may have seen our new claw which we just introduced and which seems to be working very well – we plan on adding a second one for next leaf season. Also next season, we will also be getting a new leaf vacuum that is significantly better than the ones we are using. We did a post mortem of last season and we will do one this season – we do bring your suggestions and thoughts to those forums.

Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving,

Roberta

North Jersey towns reassess tax-exempt status for hospitals after key ruling

THE RECORD

Around North Jersey, more than $700 million worth of property goes untaxed because it is owned by non-profit hospitals. That includes hospital campuses on nearly 90 acres in Ridgewood, Hackensack, Teaneck, Englewood, Paterson and Wayne. And it also includes hospital-related properties, such as portions of medical office buildings in Wayne and Paramus, parking garages in Hackensack and an assortment of lots in Paterson.

That property, and the potential revenue it could produce if it were assessed property taxes, is getting a close look by leaders of the state and local governments after a precedent-setting Tax Court decision and recent settlement in a case between Morristown and the non-profit Morristown Medical Center.

Judge Vito Bianco ruled that non-profit hospitals in the early 21st century are essentially legal fictions, with little in the way they operate to distinguish them from for-profit hospitals — and almost nothing in common with their beginnings as “charitable alms houses.”

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

With the November election and the affirmative results of the non-binding referendum in the rearview mirror, the next steps for the village include further discussions on specifics for a garage on Hudson Street and the presentation of a few different design options for the public.

Earlier this month, voters approved a non-binding referendum question asking residents if they were in favor of bonding up to $15 million in public money for the construction of a parking garage, which is expected to be paid for principally, if not entirely, with parking utility revenues. The measure passed with 65 percent of the vote.

In the subsequent weeks, the village appears to have settled on three different designs for a parking deck, which vary in terms of overall size, height, cost and the number of cars it can house. Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld provided The Ridgewood News with specifics on each of the options.

Option “A” is the design that has been most prominently featured at public meetings with a capacity of 405 cars, which would provide a net gain of 305 spaces. The 136,650 square foot building is 49 feet, two inches, to the top of the highest parapet with the tower extending to 68 feet. The approximate construction cost per space is approximately $29,630 and the village would plan to bond $12 million.

A second rendering, known as Option “B,” brings the height of the building along Hudson Street down to 37 feet, four inches, but the highest parapet on South Broad would remain at the 49 foot mark and the corner tower would also remain the same height. This garage will hold 355 cars for a net gain of 255. The village would plan to bond about $11 million for this 119,800 square foot proposal.

Option “C” scales down the building even further with the tower now lowered to 56 feet, eight inches, and both the Hudson and Broad parapets down to 37 feet. This design can house 306 cars for a net gain to the village of 206. Ridgewood would plan to bond $10.1 million for the 109,350 square foot structure.

In a letter sent from his village email account, Mayor Paul Aronsohn invited residents to come to the Village Council’s meeting on Dec. 2 to weigh in on their preferred design. Renderings will be made available on the village website and in the first floor lobby in Village Hall, the mayor said.

How GOP campaigns are strategizing for Super Tuesday delegate bonanz

07trump-master675 (1)

By Philip Rucker and Robert Costa November 23 at 1:40 PM

MOBILE, Ala. — Ben Carson journeyed here last week to the buckle of the Bible Belt, where he proclaimed America a “Judeo-Christian nation” and delivered a stern warning to his devoted followers: Show up at the polls on March 1 or face consequences.

On Saturday, Donald Trump again swooped into Alabama, where he has cultivated friendships with immigration hardliners, to rally fans in Birmingham. Sen. Marco Rubio has his eyes on the state, too, recently becoming one of only two candidates (Carson is the other) to submit a full slate of 76 delegates for its primary.

Then there’s Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, whose volunteers have been buzzing around Alabama gathering names of grass-roots opponents to the Common Core education standards. At next weekend’s Alabama-Auburn football game, Cruz’s campaign bus will be parked with free stickers and literature. “The Iron Bowl is a big, big moment in Alabama, and Cruz people will be everywhere,” said Ann Eubank, Cruz’s state co-chair.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is firing a warning shot at the Republican National Committee after it was reported that some establishment Republicans are forming an outside organization to try to harm his candidacy.

In a tweet on Monday, Trump referenced a recent Wall Street Journal article about these anti-Trump efforts, tagging the RNC’s official Twitter account, @GOP, in his complaint.

@WSJ reports that @GOP getting ready to treat me unfairly—big spending planned against me,” Trump tweeted. “That wasn’t the deal!”

The Wall Street Journal report does not say that the RNC is involved. But the story says Liz Mair, the architect of the Trump Card LLC organization described in the article, once worked for the RNC.

A man accused of fatally stabbing a woman in Troy, N.Y., Monday morning was arrested several hours later following a chase on the Palisades Interstate Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said.

David Campos, 45, allegedly killed Denise Gely, 44, with whom he once had a romantic relationship, around 5:45 a.m., Troy Police Capt. Daniel DeWolf said.

The couple had a history of “domestic issues,” DeWolf said, but Campos had never been arrested in Troy previously. At one time they lived together in Troy, but they were not at the time of her death, he said.

One of the couple’s three children called police to report the alleged attack, DeWolf said. Two were home at the time.

Troy is about 150 miles north of New York City along the Hudson River and authorities sent police departments a description of his vehicle, a black Chrysler 200, and his license plate.

Officers on the New York side of the Palisades Interstate Parkway discovered the car and a chase ensued into New Jersey around 9:40 a.m.

Officer Donald Liu, a Palisades Interstate Parkway cop in New Jersey, joined the pursuit at Interchange 5, Chief Michael Coppola said in a statement. Coppola, Detective Lt. Roman Galloza, Lt. Jesse Cohen and Officers Travis Philhower and Timothy Conboy jumped in as the chase continued south on the parkway.

PSE&G Says Customers to Pay Less to Heat Their Homes This Winter

pseG_truck2_theridgewoodblog

Bill credits will save typical customer $124 over three months

Annual bills down 55 percent since 2009 due to falling natural gas prices

November 23,2015

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,  Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), New Jersey’s largest utility, announced today that it will provide bill credits this winter that will lower bills by about 30 percent during the months of December, January and February for a typical residential gas heating customer. Those customers will see a total bill credit of approximately $124 this winter.

Including this winter’s bill credits announced today, since January 2009 annual bills for PSE&G’s typical residential gas heating customer will be 55 percent — or $916 — lower due to supply rate reductions. In fact, PSE&G’s gas supply rate is at its lowest in 15 years.

“I can’t think of any other commodity that costs 55 percent less today than it did in 2009,” said Jorge Cardenas, PSE&G vice president of asset management and centralized services. “Falling natural gas prices, our transportation and storage capabilities, and the way we manage our contracts have enabled us to pass these savings along to our customers as the temperature drops.”

More than six in 10 Americans believe that the news media, followed closely by Hollywood, has a negative effect on the country, according to a new survey.

An extensive new Pew Research Center survey finds that 65 percent believe that the news media “has a negative effect on the way things are going in the country.” Some 56 percent said the entertainment industry has a negative effect.

For comparison, 51 percent believe that the Obama administration has a negative effect and 40 percent say labor unions do too.

Clinton Foundation’s Colombian ‘Private Equity Fund’ Was Unregistered

Bill Clinton

Company’s website removed from internet after Thursday report
BY: Alana Goodman
November 23, 2015 5:00 am

The Clinton Foundation’s Colombia-based investment company was not registered as a private equity fund in the country, which may have allowed it to avoid certain industry regulations and oversight from the Colombian government.

Although Fondo Acceso described itself as a “Private Equity Fund” in company promotional materials and business presentations, it is not listed in a database of current or previously registered private equity funds maintained by the Colombian government.

Colombian legal experts consulted by the Free Beacon said that Fondo Acceso did not appear to have violated any laws by calling itself a private equity fund, as long as it was not doing so while trying to raise capital.

According to its corporate records, Fondo Acceso is registered in Colombia as a “simplified stock corporation,” which legal experts said precludes it from doing business as a private equity fund.

Fondo Acceso’s website was also removed from the internet this week, shortly after the Washington Free Beacon reported that the $20 million investment firm was owned by the Clinton Foundation and was run out of the foundation’s office in Bogota.

The website had previously described Acceso as “a Private Equity Fund that seeks investment opportunities in small and medium Colombian compan[ies] with the purpose of obtaining economic and social returns.”

Its website also included a contract for companies seeking investment to fill out, which authorized the release of financial and other internal information to Fondo Acceso and the Clinton Foundation.

Trumps Comments on 9/11 Set of Firestorm in New Jersey

9/11 wtc

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop owes an apology to all 9/11 victims and should resign immediately!

November 23,2015
PJ Blogger and

Ridgewood NJ, for many 9/11 is a day they will always remember with a sadness but for some it was a day of celebrations . The buildings had not yet fallen , the NY Water Way Ferries will still evacuating people , crowds were gathering along the Hudson and yes some were dancing in the street waving Palestinian flags and celebrating . It happen in Jersey City and in Patterson ,in fact the police kept angry mobs from attacking them . It was witnessed by thousand of people in Hoboken and Jersey City .

The recent attempt to deny Donald Trumps comments is more COWARD historical revisionism . Many of my friends who were still alive saw it with our own eyes. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop should learn to shut his mouth and not speak about things he is clueless  . Over 200 people that I knew died on that day and as they say it is what it is and they did what they did and no amount of lying will change that period. It is vile and unconscionable to lie about the events on 9/11 and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop owes an apology to all 9/11 victims and should resign immediately!  History will not be rewritten for your convenience.
