Palisades park NJ, The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Palisades Park Police Department are requesting information from the public regarding a hit and run with a struck pedestrian where the victim sustained serious injuries.
On Sunday, July 21, 2019, at approximately 2:14 a.m., the Palisades Park Police Department received a report of a fight in progress outside of 400 Bergen Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers observed a male victim lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The victim, a 33-year-old male, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Wyckoff NJ, , the bipartisan Stop Bad Robocalls Act, cosponsored by U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), passed the House and will head to the Senate for a vote. The bill specifies that consumers should not face additional charges for having robocalls blocked through authentication technology and sets reasonable deadlines for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to prescribe regulations to help fight against scammers.

East Rutherford NJ, A new law sponsored by Senator Steve Oroho makes it easier for promoters to bring major sports and entertainment events to New Jersey, bolstering tourism and increasing revenue.

The Ridgewood Health Department and the American Lung Association offer these helpful hints to keep you and your family healthy and safe this summer while also reducing air pollution for everyone.
As the weather heats up, ground-level ozone pollution increases as pollutants react to heat and sunlight. Ozone levels also increase due to summer wildfires. When ozone levels are high, anyone who spends time outdoors may be at risk, but children, seniors and people with lung disease are particularly vulnerable.

MOORE (DOB: 11/22/1998; single; unemployed) of 375 Gorge Road, Cliffside Park, NJ, JAMARIS GRAY (DOB: 04/09/1999; single; unemployed) of 38 Macon Street, Brooklyn, NY, JAYLEN NICHOLS (DOB: 03/16/2000; single; unemployed) of 880 Colgate Avenue, Bronx, NY, and a 17 year-old juvenile of Douglasville, Georgia on charges resulting from a series of robberies in September 2018. The arrests are the result of an eleven-month investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

Ridgewood NJ, PSE&G Storm update: As of 10 a.m. #PSEG crews have restored power to approximately 185,000 customers affected by the storm. We are coordinating mutual aid with out-of-state utility companies to help restore power to the roughly 55,000 customers still affected.

Edgewater NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, man appeared in court today on charges of mail fraud related to a scheme through which he submitted thousands of false insurance claims to courier delivery service companies, resulting in a loss of $1.7 million, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Enrico DiCaprio, a/k/a “Sergio Leone,” a/k/a “Hakan Arikan,” 57, of Edgewater, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with one count of mail fraud. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court.

East Rutherford NJ, A chemical reaction at a plant in East Rutherford prompted at least two towns to issue shelter-in-place warnings. East Rutherford police reported receiving calls just before 2 p.m. Thursday at the Diamond Chemicals plant on East Union Avenue near Dubois Street for reports of a chemical reaction that was causing concern. Chlorine inside the plant apparently mixed with another chemical, producing potentially dangerous fumes. Diamond Chemical is listed as a soap and detergent manufacturer.

Ridgewood NJ, Legislation allowing veterans who served in the National Guard to access military benefits today passed the Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.
Under the bill (A3455), sponsored by Assemblyman Sean Kean and Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce, the guard’s honorable discharge form qualifies as proof of military service and can be used to get a county veteran’s ID card.

“This is beyond ridiculous. FSH has taken hostage a whole state . The market should decide who can buy a house where. Government should not interfere here and neither should a ghost organisation such as FSH. If you can’t afford to live in RW go live in Waldwick or some other area that suits you. I would love to live in Saddle River but can’t afford so I found a place I could afford in RW. This kind of policy is destroying all the nice and beautiful suburbs in NJ. I just can’t get why FSH has so much power and why residents have no say in this but are threatened into submission. The only mayors who are vocal about this craziness are Scotch Plains and Englewood Cliffs. These guys have balls and speak for their constituents.
And yes all the new structures being built across the area are from the same exact set of drawings. They look like correction facilities.”

River Vale NJ, On May 31st, Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi participated in NJ Spotlight’s roundtable on Affordable Housing. The roundtable event addressed the history of the affordable housing issue in New Jersey – from the Mount Laurel decisions to the current court process – and the effect the issue has on municipalities across the State.
The state has been riddled with legal battle over affordable housing. Currently , Ridgewood and Franklin lakes are engage in lawsuits over affordable housing.
Two opposing forces in the statewide debate over affordable housing obligations, Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-39) and Fair Share Housing Center attorney Kevin Walsh .
They went head to head along with three other panelists in a livestreamed debate May 31 on how best to fulfill affordable housing obligations.

Most of us think of storm preparation as boarding up windows, getting extra milk and bread, and clearing the yard of loose items. As blizzards become more frequent and deadly, preparing for natural disasters will require you to step up your game a bit. For those of us in New Jersey, it’s important to prepare for unprecedented storm damage. Take a cue from first responders to build a next level prep kit for natural disasters.
Although we think of them as firefighters, our state’s elite first responder crews do a lot more than put out fires. The emergency team responds to every public safety need, whether it’s a chemical spill, flood, or downed electrical wire. The team responds to so many different situations, it’s as if someone cloned MacGyver into a crew of elite responders. They carry an assortment of simple tools which can be combined to create a unique solution for any problem.
As you gather materials for your disaster kit, think about simple tools rather than complex solutions. It’s more about having the right tools to build a solution than an expensive tool for each situation. Although a fire truck is outfitted with expensive and complex devices and equipment, the materials used to respond to emergencies are often quite ordinary and readily available.
Liquids and gases only cause problems when there is a leak from an appropriate storage container, like a frozen water heater, burst underground pipe, or flooding. Response team members assemble a variety of equipment and materials that allow them to patch or plug accidental leaks in hundreds of different types of containers.
The tools may be as simple as a tire patch kit spray, washers and nuts, duct tape, spray foam insulation, and wooden plugs. Patching a leak might be as simple as placing a deflated innertube over a storage drum to form a temporary seal. Various sizes of inflatable pipe plugs can quickly stop a leak. When a patch or plug can’t fix the problem, response teams use physical barriers like rubber stoppers, neoprene gaskets, silicone seals, sand or lime to prevent further damage or to isolate a spill. The ability to dissect the math and physics of a problem and respond quickly under pressure with a creative solution is the real trick.
Assemble an assortment of plugs, gaskets, pressure-sensitive tapes, patches, clamps, sandbags, and household items like innertubes. Organize and label them thoroughly so that even someone unfamiliar with your storage system can find things easily. Remember that your goal is to patch, pump, and isolate the problem long enough for professionals to fix it. You don’t have to create a permanent fix out of pieces, just a temporary solution.
The city might deploy $1,000,000 in equipment to get these creative engineers into position, but surprisingly simple materials can be a lifesaver in an emergency. Model your emergency kit after response personnel who use common, ordinary tools applied with a touch of creativity and ingenuity in emergency situations.
