Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco called on Bergen County Sheriff Mike Saudino to step down, in the aftermath of a WNYC report that alleges Saudino made racist comments about African-Americans and Attorney General Grewal, calling him ‘the guy in the turban’.

Hackensack police have charged a Connecticut couple with stealing from the USS Ling

Hackensack NJ, the Hackensack police have charged a Connecticut couple with stealing a lantern and shoulder lapel from the USS Ling submarine on the Hackensack River, at the old Bergen Record Headquarters , a short time after someone looted and flooded the landmark museum. Jon P. Stevens, 48, of West Haven, Connecticut, and Laura B. Palmese, 38, of Colcheser, Connecticut, were charged with burglary and theft . The pair allegedly parked at the Heritage Diner and “swam through the Hackensack River to the submarine” on Aug. 11th.

Hackensack NJ, Governor Phil Murphy says Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino must resign for ‘appalling’ racist comments caught on tape. Saudino, recounting the details of Murphy’s Jan. 16 inaugural address, said, “He talked about the whole thing, the marijuana, sanctuary state…better criminal justice reform. Christ almighty, in other words let the blacks come in, do whatever the f–k they want, smoke their marijuana, do this do that, and don’t worry about it. You know, we’ll tie the hands of cops,” according to a WNYC report.

Paramus NJ, the Paramus Police Department has posted a scam warning : We have received several calls from victims reporting that they were called by the Paramus Police Department or another Police Department, stating that they have a warrant and then asking for banking information in order to pay the fines. The caller will spoof the police department’s real phone number making it look legitimate. IT IS NOT! NO Police Department will request this information from you. Do not give any credit card or banking information to ANYONE that calls you over the phone! It is always a scam! Call your local PD if you receive one of these calls. Please share this information!

Grewal announced today that the State and Mahwah Township have entered into a settlement agreement that resolves a lawsuit brought by the State in 2017 after Mahwah adopted two allegedly discriminatory ordinances  one banning non-residents from using Mahwah’s public parks, the other banning the posting of “lechis” on utility poles located within the municipality. Lechis are plastic strips that denote the boundaries of an eruv used by Sabbath-observant Orthodox Jews.

Teaneck NJ,  A Bergen County, man today admitted giving a bribe to an employee of the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Luis Santos, 37, of Teaneck, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp in Trenton federal court to an information charging him with one count of bribery of a public official.

High School Football Game Unaffected by Chlorine Gas Leak at a Fair Lawn Water Department Water Department

Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn Fire department and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue units were dispatched to investigate a significant leak involving two (2) large steel cylinders containing chlorine gas at a Fair Lawn Water Department water treatment facility late Saturday morning, 09/15. Bergen County HazMat, Hawthorne Fire Department, and an ambulance from Saddle Brook were also on the scene at 9-14 Cadmus Place, Fair Lawn until the leak was contained. No injuries were reported, nor were there any evacuations ordered of area homes. A high school football game being played directly across the street from the plant was also unaffected by the gas release.

HACKENSACK NJ, In a decision released this week, New Jersey Superior Court Assignment Judge Bonnie Mizdol has ruled in favor of the City of Hackensack in a lawsuit brought by a political opponent of the Mayor and Council, Steven Gelber, who sought to have their “Labrosse Team” Facebook page deemed a government record. Gelber was represented in the suit by Jason Nunnermacker, a former Hackensack School Board President and unsuccessful City Council candidate who lost his re-election campaign in April. The judge disagreed, citing the page’s political nature in both its content and its description and ruling that it is not an official government record subject to the Open Public Records Act (“OPRA”).

Upper Saddle River  NJ, The Upper Saddle River Police Department will be joining the national #9pmroutine campaign. The Upper Saddle River Police Department prides themselves on proactive police work. Recent media articles portray Bergen County as a mecca for Car Burglaries and Car Thefts. Our beautiful Borough of Upper Saddle River is not immune to these crimes. As most of the residents know, recently the Upper Saddle River Police Department apprehended two individuals for the theft of one vehicle and Burglary to a multitude of other vehicles in the Borough. The one constant with the above crimes is: all the vehicles were unlocked. The Upper Saddle River Police Department will be utilizing social media, Twitter and Facebook, reminding residents to check doors and windows of their homes, close garage doors, remove all valuables from vehicles and keep vehicles locked when unattended at 9 P.M. every evening. We are a community, let’s work together to keep the Borough of Upper Saddle River safe.

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police responded to the Hawthorne Car Wash, 1112 Goffle Road, Hawthorne on Thursday morning around 10:30, 09/13, in response to a 911 telephone call from a car wash employee reporting that a vehicle had been driven into the car wash in the wrong direction, and was now stuck inside.
