Ridgewood NJ, Northjersey.com has reported that .,”Ridgewood Water says its water supply is safe after catching a contractor dumping contaminated soil on its Wyckoff property.”

Northjersey goes to state in the article that , “A utility employee saw a local contractor on Aug. 20 dumping between four and six loads of soil at the Ames wellfield. According to a statement by Ridgewood Water, the Wyckoff Police Department was immediately notified and is investigating. At the same time, the Ames well was shut down as a precaution.” Interesting when the Ridgewood blog checked the Wyckoff Police blotter , there was no mention of the incident on that or any other date and when we went to the Ridgewood Water website it was off line on September 27th in the evening .We do know how that feels but it seemed an odd coincidence .

Bergenfield NJ, In a statement Bergenfield Mayor and Bergen County Executive Candidate Norman Schmelz said , “Michael Saudino’s resignation is a step in the right direction for residents of Bergen County and New Jersey. Unfortunately his derogatory and offensive statements concerning women and minorities were already something that was reported in the public sphere and press many times as of late, and many of those who clamored for his resignation in the past few days had no hesitation accepting his support over the past few months. None of his co-partners in Bergen County government seemed shocked at the veracity of his statements, only by its contents; it is a stain on our county that County Executive Jim Tedesco did nothing while all of this hate was spewing and stood by the disgraced Sheriff. Tedesco’s actions may be worse than Saudino. Saudino may not know better, Tedesco does.”

Sheriff Resignation Shines Spotlight on Allegations of Misuse of Federal Funds for Bergen Sheriffs Department

Bergen County Sheriff's Office

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ, the sudden resignation of Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino  has opened a can of worms for Bergen County Democrats .

In the suit, which was filed in April in state Superior Court in Hackensack, Omid Bayati, the former director, claimed Sheriff Michael Saudino fired him earlier this year after Bayati uncovered inappropriate vendor deals made by Phil Lisk, a former IT director.

The suit also said Bayati objected in December to the county’s plan to fund the Sheriff’s Office with $7.5 million in federal money it expected for housing detainees for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. The move, which Bayati believed broke state law, was intended to keep the budget flat during County Executive James Tedesco’s reelection campaign, the suit said.

Bayati’s suit claims Saudino and the county breached his contract and violated both his civil rights and New Jersey’s Conscientious Employee Protection Act, which shields whistleblowers. He is suing for compensatory damages, attorneys’ fees, interest, emotional distress and punitive damages, the suit said
