Paramus NJ, Governor Phil Murphy announced today that approximately 13,000 qualifying students will be able to attend one of 13 community colleges “free” of tuition and educational fees in the spring semester that starts in January 2019.
All 19 of New Jersey’s community colleges applied to participate in the Community College Innovation Challenge, signaling interest and need across the state. Each one of New Jersey’s community colleges will receive a $250,000 grant for student outreach, recruitment, and support, and to build capacity for future expansion of the program. The selected pilot colleges include institutions from North, Central, and South Jersey.

A Superior Court judge ruled Friday in favor of Republican council candidate Joel Brizzi in his suit against Lahullier, the Bergen County Clerk and the East Rutherford Democratic County Committee to block the incumbent’s candidacy.

Grewal and the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor announced today that a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Bergen County has been charged with second-degree health care claims fraud for allegedly billing the Medicaid program for mental health rehabilitation services never provided to at-risk children and adolescents under her professional care through a state-run program.
Gloria Andrade, 56, of Teaneck, was also charged with Medicaid fraud (3rd degree), theft by deception (3rd degree), and falsifying records (4th degree) in an indictment handed up by a state grand jury in Trenton on Monday.

Northjersey goes to state in the article that , “A utility employee saw a local contractor on Aug. 20 dumping between four and six loads of soil at the Ames wellfield. According to a statement by Ridgewood Water, the Wyckoff Police Department was immediately notified and is investigating. At the same time, the Ames well was shut down as a precaution.” Interesting when the Ridgewood blog checked the Wyckoff Police blotter , there was no mention of the incident on that or any other date and when we went to the Ridgewood Water website it was off line on September 27th in the evening .We do know how that feels but it seemed an odd coincidence .

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Clerk John Hogan has set an October 4 filing deadline for the special election for Sheriff.
Democrats and Republicans will have until 10 AM that morning to file their candidates. Independent candidates will have the same deadline to submit petitions with 100 signatures.
Bergen County will hold off on mailing new vote-by-mail requests until after October 4. Attorneys are still reviewing whether voters who come to the County Clerk’s office between now and the new filing deadline will be able to vote.
Paramus NJ, Acting Prosecutor Dennis Calo announces the following information:
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Paramus Police Department are investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred early this morning, September 23, 2018.
At approximately 2:40 a.m., the Paramus Police Department responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 4 West between Forest Avenue and Spring Valley Road. Initial reports indicate that Vladimir Diaz was operating a 2006 Jeep Cherokee in the center lane when he was struck from behind by a 2011 Audi A4 driven by Herbert Reynoso (DOB: 09/07/94). As a result of the impact, Mr. Diaz’s car struck a utility pole. He was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition. Reynoso’s vehicle continued approximately 800 feet, then struck a utility pole and overturned. Reynoso was treated and released from HUMC.
Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Police quickly nabbed a husband and wife duo in connection with the alleged shoplifting of “thousands of dollars” worth of cosmetic products from the CVS Pharmacy, 175 Rock Road, Glen Rock on Monday morning, 09/24. CVS loss prevention personnel detained the female suspect in the store until police arrived. Her husband was taken into custody about one (1) mile away in front of their split level home. Both suspects were transported to Glen Rock Police headquarters for processing. Glen Rock Police Police Chief Dean Ackermann assisted in the arrest of the male suspect.
