Ridgewood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, NJDOT Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti and NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett  announced on Monday ,February 28th the fifth consecutive year of no fare increases for NJ TRANSIT and that Wi-Fi will be installed on all NJ TRANSIT buses .

NJ TRANSIT ADDING ADDITIONAL MULTILEVEL RAIL CARS

Ridgewood NJ, the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors today approved the purchase of 25 additional Multilevel III rail cars. The purchase exercises options on the original December 2018 contract with Alstom for the purchase of 113 new Multilevel III rail cars.  The additional 25 cars in this action are funded as part of the Portal North Bridge project which will increase peak-hour peak-direction customer capacity.

NJ TRANSIT AWARDS FIRST CONTRACT FOR NEWARK PENN STATION’S MODERNIZATION

NEWARK NJ, NJ TRANSIT’s Board of Directors today approved an innovative and first of its kind all-inclusive professional services contract to perform Master Planning, Design Services, and Construction Support Services as part of a long-term project for the major restoration and renovation of historic Newark Penn Station.  In addition, the Board of Directors approved funding for Phase One of the contract, which includes the preparation of a Master Plan and completion of a 10% concept design.

Governor Signs the Motorbus and Passenger Rail Service Employee Violence Prevention Act

Trenton NJ,  Governor Murphy today signed the Motorbus and Passenger Rail Service Employee Violence Prevention Act (S4701) to create new tools for protecting transit workers throughout the state. In addition to upgrading the penalty for all assaults on a motorbus or autobus operator, an operator’s supervisor, or a rail passenger employee, the bill enables NJ TRANSIT and other carriers to suspend or prohibit from ridership individuals who commit assaults against employees and ensures NJ TRANSIT and private bus companies equip all buses and trains with communications systems to quickly contact law enforcement in an emergency.

Accumulations of 3 to 5 inches for Friday Mornings Commute

Ridgewood NJ, according to the National Weather Service , a quick moving but intensifying low pressure system is expected to bring a period of moderate to heavy snow for the Friday morning commute.

The southern end of the state is anticipated to have the most significant impact during the Friday morning commute. Most of the snow will fall between 1 AM and 7 AM.

New Jersey Transit Police Locate Missing Child at Secaucus Junction Station

Secaucus NJ, on Thursday 12/30/2021, NJTPD Lieutenant Fallon and Officer Tevnan were on foot patrol at Secaucus Junction Station. The officers were actively scanning traveling crowds to identify suspicious behavior or any potential threats. They noticed a young juvenile passing through the station and determined he was traveling alone.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

NJ Transit Police Officers Revive Unconscious Woman Suffering Overdose at Newark Penn Station

Newark NJ, a near fatal incident resulted with a lifesaving rescue by New Jersey Transit Police. The officers were on a night shift patrol at Newark Penn Station. Following an anonymous tip, the officers located an unresponsive woman on a nearby sidewalk. A citizen was unsuccessfully attempting to perform CPR.

Environmentally Friendly Shelter Uses Solar To Power Lights and USB Charging Ports

Cherry Hill NJ, NJ TRANSIT has unveiled a new state-of-the art solar panel bus shelter in Cherry Hill, the first of its kind for the agency.  The latest generation shelter continues to advance NJ TRANSIT’s sustainability goals laid out in its 10-Year Strategic Plan.  The solar panels on the roof of the shelter harness the power of the sun to recharge a battery which operates the shelter’s lights at night and adds a new customer convenience in USB charging ports. We were hoping for heat in the winter but I guess you can’t have everything .

NJ Transit K9 Officer and Concerned Citizens Help Reunite Lost Child with Family

Hoboken NJ, this past weekend, a family and child became separated while on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. The child had mistakenly boarded a light rail vehicle alone. As the family sought police assistance, NJ Transit Police officers fanned out in the surrounding area and canvassed multiple stations. Via communication with concerned citizens, the Officers were able to narrow their search within Jersey City.
