Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, former Ho-Ho-Kus fire chief, is accusing the borough and council of overstepping their bounds by dismissing him from his position. Scott McDermott, who became fire chief in January 2022 and serves as a paid firefighter in Jersey City, filed a lawsuit in state Superior Court in Bergen County on March 17, claiming the borough and the mayor hgd overstepped their authority.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, a Friday afternoon, 02/24, two (2) vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound in Ho-Ho-Kus sent a white colored Honda CRV careening off of the traveled lanes and onto the right shoulder where it came to rest partially up on a guardrail. The other vehicle involved, a convertible VW Beetle, sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. The Honda was towed. No injuries were reported in the incident, which was investigated by Ho-Ho-Kus Police with the assistance of Saddle River Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office roving SWAT Team. Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department also responded to the mishap.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, two (2) non-life threatening injuries were reported following a two (2) vehicle, Friday evening, 12/30, collision at the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Sheridan Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus. Both vehicles involved sustained heavy front end damage and were towed from the scene. Ho-Ho-Kus firefighters attended to a significant, crash related fluid spill Ho-Ho-Kus Police and Ho-Ho-Kus EMS also responded, as did a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital. Waldwick Police assisted with traffic control.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, a driver unfamiliar with streets leading to and from the Ho-Ho-Kus train station area, made a wrong turn early Tuesday evening, 12/20, and wound up stuck on a pair of active NJ Transit railroad tracks. A towing company employee and NJ Transit Police ESU officers worked in unison to free the struck 4-door sedan, and remove it from the tracks. No injuries were reported in the incident, which delayed most trains scheduled to pass through the Ho-Ho-Kus station by over one (1) hour. Ho-Ho-Kus Police officers were also dispatched to the incident.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, the Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Education announced yesterday the receipt of a $10 million gift from Dave and Cheryl Duffield for the construction of Duffield Hall, a new gymnasium and wellness center, at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. The gift represents the largest donation ever received by the district. The project will involve the demolition of the current gymnasium area and construction of a new, state-of-the-art gymnasium and wellness center that will include flexible classroom space. The project was designed by LAN Associates and will be built by Donnelly Construction. The project is planned to be completed in the spring of 2024.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, the Hermitage & First Flight Theatre Company join forces to present Dickens by Candlelight: “A Christmas Carol” by Robin Proett Olson. Using only the actual words from this immortal story, this 90-minute version with no intermission is interactive and set with the actors in and around the audience. The three actors (and an audience member or two) play all the characters from this famous tale. Tea and holiday snacks will be served. The event is in Jaqua Hall.

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, Ho-Ho-Kus police officer Garret Sweetman #49 was presented a Lifesaving Award for performing the Heimlich maneuver on a patron who was not breathing at Matthews Diner on October 21, 2022. Ptl. Sweetman heard the call go to Waldwick and was passing the diner at the time. After several attempts, he was able to dislodge the obstruction and the party started breathing again. Numerous patrons tried before his arrival and were unsuccessful.
