Ridgewood Drops to Freehold Township in the State Finals

Ridgewood NJ, a year after suffering a heartbreaking loss in the state championship game on the final day of the 2021 season,Freehold Township made good on its off-season promise and claimed its first outright title on Sunday in a 1-0 victory over Ridgewood in the NJSIAA Group 4 final at Alumni Field at Kean University. Ainsley Moy’s goal in the fifth minute stood up the rest of regulation, delivering the Freehold Township Patriots their first state title since 2017 and third overall.

UPDATE: Undefeated Ridgewood Girls Soccer Heads to their First-ever Group 4 Championship Game !

Ridgewood NJ, the No. 4 Ridgewood girls soccer team toped No. 3 Watchung Hills, and advances their  1st state final. The 2-1 win at home over No. 3 Watchung Hills booked the Maroons a spot in their first-ever Group 4 championship game. At 20-0 moving on to the State Final the Ridgewood Girls are the only undefeated team in the State.

Ridgewood Crew Closes Out The Fall Season At The Head of The Schuylkill Regatta

Ridgewood NJ, on October 30, 2022, Ridgewood Crew raced 19 boats on the 50th Anniversary of the Head of The Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, the 2022 event will continue a tradition of exceptional fall racing that began fifty years ago in the home of American rowing. While the expansive scope of the two-day Regatta today bears little resemblance to its 1970 roots, the spirit of the Regatta endures: a fall race showcasing high-caliber crews as well as those new to the sport.  This year, 261 clubs participated, with Ridgewood Crew racing nineteen boats.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Maroons narrowly defeated in Friday night’s North Jersey, Section 2, Group 5 semifinal round between Ridgewood and West Orange . The 6th seeded West Orange Mountaineers pulled off an upset over the 2nd seeded Ridgewood Maroons in a nail biter with the game decided in overtime by the visiting Mountaineers defeating the Maroons 34-31.

Two goals by Isabella Winn sandwiched around a tally by Jessica Kaye, the Maroons remained undefeated and repeated as North 1, Group 4 sectional champions with a 3-0 defeat of West Orange.

RHS Football Coach Chuck Johnson Posts his 300th victory, selected as the High School Coach of the Week

Ridgewood NJ, the New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Chuck Johnson of Ridgewood High School  as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 9 of the 2022 season. Coach Chuck Johnson earned his 300th victory on Friday night. He is the third coach in North Jersey history to win 300 games – joining Tony Karcich and Greg Toal – and the first to accomplish that feat while coaching exclusively at public schools. Johnson’s 44-year career includes six seasons at Bogota from 1978-83, where he went 35-19-1, and 1984 to the present at Ridgewood, where he is 265-125-1; his career record amounts to 300-144-2 overall. Johnson is now six wins short of the most wins by a North Jersey coach at one school – a record presently held by Nick DelCalzo of Hasbrouck Heights at 270 wins.

Ridgewood Crew Travels to Boston for the Head of The Charles Regatta

Ridgewood NJ, originating in 1965, the Head of the Charles Regatta is the largest 3-day regatta in the world. This year, more than 11,000 rowers from around the globe competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta from October 21-22. Participating boats are selected by lottery. 3 of our senior rowers qualified to race.
